The only time Demebele has looked like an Elite player was when he was competing against Pulisic who quite frankly would make anyone look good.

Our options (aside from Sterling) are so poor I thought he'd be licking his lips to come here and look a class above his "competition"

Not too disappointed to miss out on him but we definitely need another winger and we seem to be running out of names on our list.  Raphina, Dembele and Gnabry all down this week.

Come on, Dembele looked an elite talent at Rennes already, of course he did because that's the reason he could pick and choose the club he would join for a total fee of 30m back then. As you said he's been an instant success at Dortmund, who cares about who he competet against? He was keeping that dysfunctional team afloat on his own (+Auba) and then had a multitude of problems at Barca. First he'd suffer from playing alongside Messi who still ran the show but within a totally unbalanced Barca side that was elite only by names on paper, not on the pitch  and with managers that weren't really that good to begin with and were mostly happy that they somehow made it there. Multiple injuries and most certainly a certain lack of the  right attitude (which I wouldn't read too much into since it must have been also quite frustrating there because: see reasons above). Not sure ybout you guys but in case Barca also buys Koundé which I guess is still more likely than us they have a phenomenal squad.

 Last half season where he stayed fit he was again very good and consistently their most threatening player on the pitch so not sure about the need to downplay his talent. Only reason we didn't splash much more cash on him to convince him is most probably his injury record, not the talent.

I'd say yes. Still was dysfunctional, and TT was a lame duck half a season in and fired at the end while he still got them silverware - thx to Dembele - which they hadn't won for  a rather long time before as well.

As I said I'm not too disappointed to miss out on Dembele but it's crazy for people to criticise his past performances and say he was always overrated when we give regular game time to a flop that Dembele had nailed to the bench at Dortmund.

Dembele would still have been an upgrade on what we have even if people would prefer other options.

Yeah, but under Tuchel, he would have needed to pass back to James or Jorgi once he got to the 18 yard box. Dribbling, taking on players, taking risks and being creative is not allowed in our team.

 

I say this only half in jest....it mostly feels true!

He is the one I'm most upset about missing out on. We really should've gone all out for him.

Not at all, they have cult like powers for drawing players in and getting them to cut their salaries.

Hmm, Dembele problem has never been about talent. You don't need to be a genius to see that he is a balon dor level talent

Preseason, definitely won’t be getting that space in the PL. Never been sold on him.
