Havertz for me was important always working and trying to put in good passes or get in a goal scoring position. His goal and run that got their player red carded was well deserved.

Thought Kovacic was good today too.

Quite a few players had good moments but then faded horribly, personally Kovacic impressed me most in the early parts of the match but in the end I give it to Azpi who forced the issue once again and won the pen.

Kante for me. A couple of people said he was piss poor in the match thread. I would recommend a trip to Curry's for a new TV.

Kante plays an 8 out of ten and people think he was poor because usually it's a 9 or a 10. After finally getting a chance to see the replay, I'd agree. Dave also excellent.

Kante was very good, but he did foul a few palmeres players in dangerous locations, resulting in free kicks for them that could have cost us big time.  One time I recall he fouled an opposing player twice within a few seconds.

Strange because I thought Kante struggled. He was dispossessed far more than I have ever seen and whilst he still played well and yep committed quite a few fouls.

His energy is remarkable but as sad as it is I do worry about his performances dropping off

Agreed. Whenever Kante leaves, and christ I hope that's still a few years away, we will be struggling for years to replace what he brings pretty much week in week out.

I remember Zidane's disgust when Real Madrid let Makaleke go. And how we benefited from that and we probably never thought we'd have a player we could rely on that much to show up week in week out. Maybe Essien, pre multiple career threatening injuries, could be considered in the same conversation but I'd still put Kante as the only player to sit alongside Makaleke in terms of reliability. Azpilicueta is the only player in the squad just now who you could argue has been an equally good signing.

Speaking of Maka some pundit on Sky Sports yesterday was making a case that Fernandinho was the best ever PL defensive midfielder.

What a laugh, no even close to Maka as he did it all without being a dirty player, not to mention Maka has the position named after him.

Was re-watching that first goal we scored to see it how it happened as we need a few more like that.

What happened was Kova beat his man and cut in front of him resulting in two defenders moving towards him, one of them being CHO's marker and so when Kova finds CHO he has time to pick his spot with a left foot cross.

Typically what happens in the league is CHO usually has two men around him and so comes inside instead of crossing.
