Summer Exodus. Should we do it?

Featured Replies

These mass clear outs never come to fruition because we pay so well.

We have loads out of contract though so that should help. The playing staff needs trimming though.

GK Mendy (back up) Bettinelli

CB T Silva Rudiger (starting level, pacy, ball playing) Colwill Chalobah

RB James (pacy technical back up)

LB Chilwell (pacy technical back up)

DM (starting level, athletic technical good passer) Ampadu/Gilmour

CM Mount Kovacic Gallagher RLC

RW Ziyech CHO

LW (starting level pace creativity end product) Pulisic

CF Havertz Werner Broja

That is all that i think have a future here, and there are still massive question marks over at least 4 or 5 of them.

So outgoings would be

Kepa, Azpi, Christiensen, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Bakayoko, Emerson, Kenedy, Sarr, Lukaku.

Unlikely, but might be able to move on most of them with quite a few either out of contract or coming into last 12 months.

Incomings

Colwill, Gallagher, Broja, and either Gilmour or Ampadu.

Kounde - Fast, good on the ball.

Angelino - Technically great, really good crosser, can play wb or lb.

Livramento - A year before his release clause kicks in, but signing anyone else would be silly. Surely we can work something out with Soton.

Tchouameni - Easier deal to get done than Rice, id be happy with either though, but I think Tchouameni edges it technically.

Nkunku - forget the 'bundesliga tax' he is much more suited to the premier league than Werner and Havertz were. Brilliant control under pressure, and has proved himself in the Champions League too.

Back up keeper, one that can play out to an acceptable level, but isnt on 200k+ per week.

The loan army is going to have to come to an end. New FIFA rules in place starting July, mean a maximum of 8 players loaned out. The law does not apply to U-21 players, but most of our driftwood players are probably going to count in that law. I believe currently we have at least 14 players over the age of 21 out on loan.

So effectively that means eight though with Broja and Gallager due to come back that means 6 will need to probably move on.

I guess we would look to keep on those players where the loanees pays the largest chunk of their fee.

I didn't include Broja in the 14 as heis  under 21. These are the players who would currently count based on age:

Nathan Baxter - Hull city

Juan Castillo - Birmingham City

Jamie Cumming - Gillingham

Jake Clarke-Salter - Coventry City

Conor Gallagher - Crystal Palace

Michy Batshuayi - Besiktas

Kenedy - Flamengo (although he is back at Chelsea now)

Emerson - Lyon

Matt Miazga - Alaves

Baba Rahman - Reading

Tiemoure Bakayoko - AC Milan

Danny Drinkwater - Reading

Dujon Sterling - Blackpool

Ethan Ampadu - Venezia

Beyond a few players that still may have a role at the club (clearly Conor and maybe Dujon Sterling/Ethan Ampadu ) most of the rest should be sold. But that is easier said than done as there won't be many takers for their high wages.

You can bet negotiating those took up a lot of Marina's time.

When we now talk of Exodus the real focus will probalby be moving on a number of the above.

Those I have crossed through above have their contracts expiring this year. I assume they will be let go.

So with Gallagher presumably returning to SB leaves 5 more to be moved on.

Ideally the 5 most obvious to move on would be Batshuayi, Kenedy, Emerson, Baba Rahman, and Bakayoko. I have a feeling some of those will be difficult to shift even on a free transfer

Bats contract is up in 2023 so we do pay him off?

Bakayoko if we take a big discount we can probably move on as Gattuso for one of the serie A clubs was interested in buying yet not at our prices back then.

The sticking point might be the player's salary demands

It will probably get messy and may be another reason the buying clubs (new CFC owners) want Marina to stay on a while to help sort out the loan army.

Keep Gallagher, Gilmour and Ampadu. The rest can generate 50~90m in sales

Look where the others are playing,  with the exception of Bakayoko don't think we could get £10m in sales for the rest.

They will all know we need to offload players and offer bottom money.

Just remember when we tried to sell Bakayoko to the Italians we were miles apart

This only applies to international loans not domestic ones.

I can't believe we are paying Lukaku £325k per week. We need to make contracts more sensible. Only pay a striker these wages when he reaches a certain number of goals. Saul on £198k and barely playing.

Is this true? If so, some of these salaries are lower than they should be given their performances this season, others are just stupid for what little they've provided to the team.

Is the hope the new owners will not allow this to happen and that true star players like Kante, Mount, James, Silva etc are reward where dross like Lukaku is not signed to begin with.

Malang Sarr earning more than Mount, James, Silva, Rudiger, Christensen, Mendy, Jorginho, Ziyech. What in the world.

Wow, if so then we don't an issue.........

It's barely reported anywhere that way, but it is the case. The expectation from fifa is that domestic loans catch up within 3 years.

In addition, club trained players are also exempt! Meaning loftus cheek wouldn't count if we loaner him out.

It's not going to make a big difference at all to how we operate luckily.

Yes but a man can dream

How much do you reckon Saints would price us on Livramento? Would he even want to come back?

We have a 25m buyback clause. There's always a chance because we can offer European football. Saints can't offer that and the worst that can happen is him suffering a horrible injury in a midtable-lower table team

That kicks in 2023.

It's evident we need two right wing backs next season if we want to compete.

Yep there is always hope.

I was encouraged to hear Southampton were interested in making an offer for Broja even though we turned this down.

Not that I don't rate Broja just good to see a club wiling to part with cash for a young player.

  • 2 weeks later...

My hope:

Out:

GK- Kepa

Defenders- Dave, AC, Toni, Sarr, Alonso, Emerson

Midfielders- Jorginho, Saul, Barkley, Kenedy, Drinkwater (confirmed yay!), Bakayoko, Kante(if he won't sign a new deal)

Forwards- Ziyech, Werner, Lukaku, Batman.

In:

GK- Baxter (loan return)

Defenders- Maatsen (loan return), Sterling (loan return), Pau Torres or Kounde,  Colwill (loan return)

Midfielders- Tchouaméni, Gallagher (loan return), Bissouma.

Forwards- Broja (loan return), Coutinho, Dembele (so long as he is going for free)

Squad

GK- Mendy, Baxter, Marcus B

Defenders - James, Sterling, Silva, Chalobah, Pau Torres/Kounde, Colwill, Chilwell, Maatsen

Midfielders- Gallagher, Kovacic, Kante (if he signs new deal) Bissouma, Tchouaméni, RLC

Forwards- Havertz, Broja, Coutinho, Mount, Dembele,  Pulisic

Never will be a big squad churn in a single window. We pay too well for these players to just accept any contract from a bidding team, also we need to replace with quality, and it just isn’t available in abundance.
