May 7, 20224 yr I hope Boehly is intending to put in a great scouting system. Money ball approach etc etc. Similar to the start of the Roman era would do me, when it was all about young players who were "hungry to win trophies", English spine, etc etc ... The last thing we want is more expensive mercenaries like Lukaku ... Most of our top transfer fees paid haven't worked out - lessons to be learned !

Jesus only 2 out of 14 (Jorginho and Kovacic) have actually justified their fee
May 7, 20224 yr We should get rid of at least some 10 players. Not going to happen, but most of the starters and subs today do not deserve a place at Chelsea. Edited May 7, 20224 yr by JPH
May 7, 20224 yr Lukaku Werner Pulisic Kante Jorginho Alonso Barkley Bakayoko Rudiger Christensen Sarr Azpilicueta Kepa

Havertz, Pulisic, Jorginho, Chilly, Ziyech, Kovacic get a free pass and Lukaku can still do something but otherwise it is just money thrown away pretty much.

So many seem to be completely lacking in basic skills and ability, exacerbated in the fan frustration stakes by the fact that most of them are paid the equivalent of two National Lottery wins every year of their effing contracts !!!

And after today I don't think I would add any to that list. Maybe Kovacic who is decent but yet again today, two of Liverpools best chances came from when kovacic lost possession. Silva James Chilwell Mount Kante And Havertz (IF he pulls his finger out more often!)
May 14, 20224 yr Ah we are doing a keep list? Well guess that is shorter for me top @Nibs Mendy (as a number 2) Silva Colwill Chalobah James Chilwell Kovacic Gallagher Mount Pulisic Broja

But you would keep Pulicic but not Havertz?

Would not want us to lose @USATim Hmm, why did I? I guess is like with Kante, I don't think he will be offered/will sign a new deal, so therefore out and get a fee. I think we are heading down a full rebuild path on and off the pitch with our new owners and that will mean we are not going to be near the elite level for a few seasons. I see CP accepting that to stay, especially with a US owner who will focus marketing on him. CP frustrates me like anyone else. He is too selfish and has tunnel vision, but he does have something about him, he can score headers, is two footed and a good dribbler. He may yet blossom in to something more. Havertz is going to be a cracking players, but I don't believe he will settle for us being a few years away from challenging for honours again and therefore sell him now and get the best price. Interesting almost half the above were Portuguese like our then new manager (JM). In terms of long term success with the club, just over half were really successful and over half of this group were non-portuguese.
May 15, 20224 yr I would be very happy if we could "just" sell Lukaku, Werner and Kepa. That would free up massive amount of wages and it shouldn't be hard to find better and cheaper options. Azpilicueta, Alonso and Jorginho are the next on my list to go, need better options when R.James, Chilwell, Kante and Kovacic are injured.
May 15, 20224 yr So likely departees: Alonso, Azpi, Rudiger, Christensen and possibly Jorginho. Hopefully Lukaku moves on. Werner probably on loan. One paper running with the story Ten Hag wants Kante....? Other aspects See us buying two CBs and a defensive midfielder. The return of Chilwell if it is successful good yet would imagine there is a fair chance we need to go to the market again perhaps in December. Not winning a domestic cup will make it more difficult to grow our sponsorship revenue yet will they be able to grow our revenue in this department. I think new owners will be careful with buying new players with the stadium rebuild in mind.
May 15, 20224 yr The worst thing about the upcoming window is that we are about to lose defenders and we're likely focused on replacing them when up top we are toothless. Yet another season where we just don't look threatening going forward. Won't happen but i'd sell Lukaku, Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech and Odoi if i had the chance. Just not good enough week in week out to mount a title challenge. OUT Rudiger - Free (big shame) Christensen - Free Azpi - Free Alonso (I think he's worth keeping around but I dont think he wants to stick around) Werner - I'd like him to get more chances than he is because I still feel he contribues more than some Ziyech - Just no consistency whatsoever, he has quality but he just looks to weak for the league. CHO - If someone came in with a reasonable offer for him then we should take it in a heartbeat. Jorginho - I think his time is up here, we need some legs now and change the way we play. Lukaku - I think hes one of our worst transfers, I see us struggling to offload him. If we do get an offer we should cut our loses and move on asap. Pulisic - He has the ability but I dont think he's suited to the league like Ziyech. Technically great but just not consistant enough. We're lucky in a way that we some great youth players to plug some gaps. Out of all those players I see Lukaku and Ziyech, Pulisic staying. We should bring in Gallagher, Broja and Colwill to easy the pain of losing some players. I have no idea who will come in and how much Tuchel will get but I hope we have a plan over the next few seasons to build a squad that works together and not a bunch of talented players mashed into a formation. We badly need a top striker who has the ability to link up play, our scouts need to work to find a solution because the next big thing just gets snapped up and someone like Lewa is coming to the twilight of their careers and it rarely works out for us. Correct me if im wrong but I think Costa was the last player to score 20 premier goals for us in a season? I would even look at Gabriel Jesus if he's available. Edited May 15, 20224 yr by Sheva
May 15, 20224 yr I hope people realise that with an influx in young players comes an influx of inconsistency as well. Look at Arsenal. Look at us under Lampard. We'd be taking two steps back. We need to be precise in our transfer strategy. Proven experienced mixed with young hungry players.

May 15, 20224 yr Yes we should, as many as possible should go. Of the current squad, no including those out on loan, just focus on keeping: Silva, Chalobah James, Chilwell Kovacic Mount, Pulisic That is all. Any of the rest you can get decent fees for.

May 17, 20224 yr Barcelona are working on both Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. No doubts on Alonso: he’s set to leave Chelsea but Barça deal depends on final price. 🇪🇸 #FCB Azpilicueta has a two-year deal bid on the table from Barça, waiting for a meeting with Chelsea to decide his future. pic.twitter.com/0ThYVPhkyB — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 17, 2022
