He is bad, he's really bad, Bakayoko levels of bad. I have no idea how he gets into this England team when they have somebody like Tomori waiting.

We haven't even reached a WC final since and one losing Euro final . Even with group stages that almost guaranteed easy passages. It's not one extreme or the other, there's middle ground between glory and what Southgate is serving up. Furthermore if we have little chance of winning silverware all the more reason to make the games more fun atleast, Southgate's sh*t on a stick can be only be justified if it comes with hard silver, and he f**ked up his one big chance with some of the most mindblowing decision making I've ever seen.

To be fair though who in their right minds thought it was a good idea to put Gareth Southgate in charge of selecting penalty takers?! I mean he cost England one European Championship as a player, of course he did the same as a manager. Edited September 26, 20223 yr by axman2526

Consistency! England NEVER win against Italy Val. Since the turn of the century we have only won one game against them, (a friendly 10 years ago), and have not beaten them in a major competition since 1977. It doesn't matter who the players or managers are. Tottenham win more games at Stamford Bridge than England do against Italy.

September 28, 20223 yr We have had a succession of England managers that at one time or another in their tenure have had under their wing the brightest stars in English football and in the world and yet all of them managed to fcuk it up. On paper some of the England teams since I've been watching centuries ago should have won the World Cup a few times yet we crumble because of bad managers and horrible tactics / bad team selections. Unless by some miracle Southgate has a visit from God and he starts picking players in form rather than his pets we might stand a chance of getting out of the group stages...otherwise the team will be home long before Christmas.

Why do you want to pick in form player over player who you know can do the job for you 😅😅 Let's say Rashford is in form and Kane isn't. Picking Rashford over Kane mean you have to change the way you attack. Nobody will do this just before a big tournament.

Attack Bob?..not a word in Southgate's vocabulary at the moment, so it wouldn't make a bit of difference who he puts up front when he'd rather play 7 or 8 defensive minded players unless his hand is being forced and then it's all reactionary. Look at Maguire, can't get in the Utd team, Southgate picks him and he was awful yet leaves Tomori without even a sniff of getting any minutes. Hopefully he will be gone after the WC failure that is inevitable if he continues to pick out of form players.

Your 1st,2nd,3rd priority is to prevent your opp from scoring.

It's true that those that win the World Cup don't concede many goals but at the same time scoring has always been the whole point. France scored 14 goals in the last World Cup. Germany scored 18 goals in 2014. Spain scored 8 goals in 2010. Italy scored 11 goals in 2006. Brazil scored 18 goals in 2002. So when you look at the last 5 World Cup winners, you get that on average whoever wins the World Cup manages to score about 2 goals per match. You could even argue that it's the tiki-taka Spain that ruins the average as they are the only team in the last 5 World Cups that didn't manage to score more than 10 goals in 7 matches but they still scored a goal per match so it goes both ways, if you don't score you can't win the World Cup.

Honestly, I don't even know how to interpret your stats. Wc/euro is a knockout tournament and you play only 7 games and each team play different nation. You can almost take any stats with a grain of salt.

Every World Cup is the same, you can't play more matches so those stats are all you'll get. I just took the last 5 winners and basically Spain managed to make a run of winning 1:0 every match so now it comes down to what is more important, to score or not not concede... January 23, 20242 yr Just had a look at the odds online, Potter and Howe lead the way. Oddly, Pep is shorter odds than Jose and as short as 5/1 with PP. Some other fairly short priced depressing names included are Carsley and Gerrard
