July 16, 20224 yr Still slightly irked by our owner's apparent one-size-fits-all approach to transfer negotiations which seems to have cost us De Ligt, specifically a lack of appreciation for the competitive context within which the negotiations for truly elite players are conducted. Hopefully our owners learn that - as the likes of Liverpool have repeatedly demonstrated - it's worth overpaying for the very best players in order to wrap them up before potential rivals for that player's signature can react.

Yeah have to agree. Sometimes you got to pay for quality.

Agreed
July 17, 20224 yr So disappointed in the lack of ambition from De Ligt, thought he was made of tougher stuff and really wanted to compete with the big boys in a league where you’re not going to just steam roll everyone. Ah well, at least he’s only 22, 4 years later with one year left on this deal he’s still got another big move in him. The only trouble is, at that time Madrid or City might need a centre back, whereas now.. we’re in the driving seat and Bayern don’t tend to spend this big usually. Shame all round..

I think this is exactly why he has chosen Bayern, a huge money move to City, Real or PSG later.

Yea possibly, and since he’s a centre back he might even have at least another big move in him, leave Bayern at 26 years old and at 31/32 one final big deal if he keeps himself in top shape. One thing I’ve noticed is Bayern using Barcelona’s strategy of putting it out there that ‘x,y,z player only wants them’ and making that a thing in media circles. I do hope our board are smart enough to dig deeper into that but who knows how powerful that can be when all the voices are saying one thing with no direct contact with the player. Bayern did spent £68m on Hernandez, so they’re not as sensible as it may seem but you’d still think we’d compete ‘knowing’ it’s our big chance whilst the other cash rich clubs are happy with their centre backs.

It's a shame but if De Ligt wants to go there and say Kounde really wants to play for us I would rather sign Kounde. Want to see our side full of players passionate for the cause.
July 17, 20224 yr 80 million+ for Matthijs de Ligt is a brilliant bit of business for Juventus. Bayern get a wonderful talent, too. Chelsea always reluctant to bid that high in straight cash. Torres, Kimpembe, Gabriel and Bremer all being considered by Juve after missing out on Koulibaly.
July 17, 20224 yr Not sure why people are criticizing the board/Boehly over this one. It was completely out of our control. De Ligt clearly preferred Bayern over us and paying even 100mil wouldn't have changed that.

If the reports are true that he desperately wants Bayern and won’t even consider elsewhere then yes I’d agree. 40 minutes ago, JM7 said: 80 million+ for Matthijs de Ligt is a brilliant bit of business for Juventus. It’s £60m with eventual add ons down the line. Cut price bargain, day light robbery. Juve have been had here.. Bayern must have naked pics of Agnelli.

He already is at the other local Turin club. If Kimpembe leaves he will join us, more likely he stays at PSG as we won't touch that 50mill asking price.
July 17, 20224 yr £60m now then about £8.5m in eventual fees down the road. Un-believable bargain honestly. I hope to god it’s correct regarding him ONLY wanting Bayern because the transfer fee is peanuts in this day and age.

I read that’s the reason his agents pushed him towards a move to Bayern and the German league. They didn’t want to expose him to the grind and physicality of the Premier League as they feared he wasn’t ready for it. Going to Bayern is the easier option. German league isn’t so relentless and you get guaranteed Champions League every year.

We could paid this a long time ago before Bayern came in and he would've been playing in Vegas for us right now.

Bayern can do it because they have 50m coming in for Lewa and they have a Sulé-shaped hole in their defence. It's a case of right timing for Bayern.
July 18, 20224 yr De Jong wants to go to Bayern now apparently. De Jong does not NOT want to play in England and nor does De Ligt. I wonder why de Ligt doesnt want to play in the best league in the world? I can only see it as a weakness in De Ligt and therefore he is not right for us. Edited July 18, 20224 yr by TheCeleryKing

I suspect becuaee of the other two from that Ajax team, that did come here, one has been meh and teh other is miles, miles out fo his depth. When Tadic was here, who i liked i must admit, he never did better than Soton. Deep down they know they've not got the stones to compete at this level. This comes back to society and footballers nowadays. Don't give a rats ar$e about the clubs, the fans, or even trophies in the main. They are footballers to make as much money doing soemthing that they find relatively easy. If this guy can earn a millionaires living in an easy league, get on TV, endorsements, media rights. Happy days. If he actually gets to be at a club that challenges for the CL each year. Bonus. I fully expect De Ligt's next club to probably be PSG.

De Ligt was nothing against our offense last year and he underperformed ever since he reached Turin. De Jong was also average~above average at best in Spain. Playing at Bayern would probably increase their numbers since they'd have more time on the ball and opponents sh*t their pants when facing Bayern. Same would have happened if both joined Man City.

Bayern see the league as minimum requirement and largely whether the opinion of the season is success or failure is often defined with UCL performance. With us (atleast for now) it would be seen as a good season if we consolidate 3rd and make a good push for the cups.
July 19, 20223 yr As I expected for a while, Juve have agreed a 40mill deal to sign Torinos Bremer to replace MDL.
