Given how bad Disasi and Badiashile are, and how Silva is barred from starting and Colwill is...who knows... maybe we start him in his natural role and have an old fashioned actual defender at CB?

Still glad Silva isn't in the starting line up. Him and his wife have disrespected the club, no player or wife is bigger than CFC, and we were conceding as many goals with him in the back line and he was making dreadful mistakes and being caught out regularly in a back 4. Club has to move on, and given his contract is out in the summer and there isn't another club looking to secure his services and haven't offered him a contract should tell you what you ned to know about his days in top flight football.

Be shocked of he has a career above Championship level. Nice that he is getting a chance, but he is one I'm just hoping we make a bit of money on.

I'll meet you in the middle. Let's agree we shouldn't pick his wife

Just because our defence was sh*t when he was fit (because Pochettino doesn't know how to set up a defence) it doesn't mean he wouldn't improve it to some degree now. Burnley were winning every set piece against us yesterday, that doesn't happen with Silva because he has better positioning, can win a header and can tackle. He made a few mistakes before his injury and some of you act like it's been a common thing all season. Apart from Gusto, our entire defence hasn't had a good game since he got injured. Every single one of them has had a worse season than Silva.

March 31, 20242 yr There is a slightly odd argument that we are conceding as many goals without Silva as we were with Silva so he shouldn't be recalled. Couldn't it suggest the problem wasn't Silva. I'd have him back in the defence in a heart beat. It's embarrassing seeing the disorganised chaos we are, especially at set pieces, when one of the wisest defensive heads watches on from the bench liking his wife's tweets

Remember the two hammerings we got at Liverpool and Wolves? Sure, his form has declined and at 39, you would expect that. But last couple of seasons he has been our best defender, bar none. The CB's I mentioned will never be in the same class. Plus he has always been a class act - never fails to come over to supporters at end of game and show his appreciation, regardless of the result - unlike many of his team mates.
April 1, 20242 yr What's the story with Silva, a long term injury or just one of those never ending niggling thing? We are a better defensive unit with him playing, he's not as fast or mobile as he used to, but he tends to be at the right place or right time when we defend the box, plus he does get others to move with his compulsive yelling. Look at those set pieces debacle yesterday, Silva would have at least had a go at the aerial ball or distract the attacker somehow.

Pochettino, the master tactician, that guy.

August 1, 20241 yr Was phenomenal last night when he inverted. If that's the way Maresca wants to play Gusto starts at LB going forward and drops into midfield. Sadly means James has to be the makeshift CB in the back 3, but that's where he was playing in the UEFA youth league when we won it. Reece was RCB in a back 3 with Sterling RWB if i remember correctly?

Reece was RCB in a back 3 with Sterling RWB if i remember correctly? Gusto was fantastic. Such a dynamic player. Gusto and Cucurella should be inverting. They are both mobile enough to reposition quickly when a turnover happens. Reece at RCB is the right way to go even though it negates his crossing. It improves our build up play a lot because he is so calm on the ball. I am also hoping it will help him stay injury free if he doesn't have to be constantly bombing up and down that right flank. I felt really good about the combination of Reece, Tosin and Lavia on our right side. We were a bit more vunerable on our left.
August 1, 20241 yr When your LB is playing in the midfield you are going to be a bit more vulnerable on the left.
August 1, 20241 yr But I think gusto was quick enough to get back when thry passed it down our left. He was quick enough to help James on the right too in the first half...lovely, the way he just swooped in and took the ball off the guy while he was busy battling it out with James.
