Blimey Jim. You're making him sound like Timo Werner!!

We all know my feelings on Turbo Timo... loved him...but bias aside, as far as football goes, my initial impressions are that he was a cut above Jackson.

But why?

Tammy isn't talented enough for the highest level,  it was clear here and he's only proven that further at Roma. Selling him was the right decision.

Prior to Boehly ruining the club we were an elite club. Standards were high and Jackson has to meet those standards.  He's young but he'll have to prove he's good enough to play here or people will rightly want to see him moved on and replaced by a more proven player.

I'm also concerned about his discipline.

4 yellow cards in our first 5 games and now just one away from a suspension.

Maybe he isn't but he was definitely scoring more goals than the attackers we've had since he left. Also I don't think the club bought Jackson to lead the line alone, the intention was definitely for players like Sterling and Nkunku to compliment him. It can't help that we have just as bad an injuriy crisis as last season.

Or a Lukaku!

Imagine a scenario if we couldn't find suitor for him and we are forced to have him in the squad. I can easily see a scenario where he  will start for us. 🤣🤣🤣

Starting point - I do not want Lukaku in the squad, and would prefer we linger near the bottom of the table than have him play for us....

....but, it is undeniable than he is better up top than anything we have in the squad at the moment.

This is kinda the sad reality.

All of us want him gone but at the same time he will probably be our no 1 st this season and even last season.

It will be nice if we have a st who can share burden with Jackson right now.

Ultimately he's the guy that last season was considered the worst attacking player in La Liga and apparently a massive fan poll put him as the worst player in the league.

He hit great form at the end of the season but it was 1 good month,  not enough to tell if it was a purple patch or a genuine breakthrough.  Looking more like the former so far.

He needs time but Boehly and Co should be forced out for thinking it was reasonable to spend a billion and go into the season with Jackson as our only fit striker.

Where was he considered the worst attacking player in La Liga last season?

https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/37763806/2022-23-laliga-best-worst-players-season-vinicius-araujo

WORST XI OF 2022-23
Goalkeeper: Pepe Reina (Villarreal)
Defenders: Matt Doherty (Atletico Madrid), Luiz Felipe (Real Betis), Tanguy Nianzou (Sevilla), Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid)
Midfielders: Ilaix Moriba (Valencia), Isco (Sevilla), Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
Forwards: Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), Kasper Dolberg (Sevilla), Raul de Tomas (Rayo Vallecano)
Substitutes: Benjamin Lecomte (Espanyol), Marcao (Sevilla), Eric Garcia (Barcelona), Carles Alena (Getafe), Memphis Depay (Atletico Madrid), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Edinson Cavani (Valencia).

Not even mentioned by ESPN.

We've killed about a dozen established strikers for big money over the last couple of decades, we would have spent 150M on Osimhen and had the same issues.

The drop off from pre-season and even the first couple of games has been mental. At least he was still dribbling his man and creating at the start of the season, can't even control a ball now.

I don't care what anyone says, every single match Jackson does textbook stuff that a striker should do. The fact that he has 7 big chances missed only means one thing, he's not getting enough chances per match at all.

Even an experienced scorer like Sterling needed yesterday more than the one clear-cut chance in order to score. Jackson has to be fed more balls, he isn't as silly as Werner that used to shoot 5 times per half and still missing.

This is a systematic problem, not a player problem because Jackson is a good talent.

Go and watch him spoon it over from 4 yards against Forest and tell me how that's a systematic problem.

Not the worst suspension for us if I’m honest

Maybe, just maybe, he might stop hacking to the ref now.

A lesson in why I shouldn't get carried away with pre-season performances, he's got a long way to go until he's good enough for where we want to be.

We also shouldn't get carried away writing players off either. It's early days and many are still raw and in poor form. I'm not going to pretend he hasn't been piss poor since Luton but people are already convinced he's sh*te.

He needs the fans support more than anything. Hopefully the match going fans continue to do so. I worry about the social media fools making negative comments towards him though.

Oh for sure I'm not writing him off, he obviously has talent and could have a big figure but right now we need an experienced striker.

I can see why players have social media managers, our fan base is so toxic at the moment and it's not something our young players should have to deal with.

He will get better, if he gets 10 goals by the end of the season I say it's a job well done. Again, blame is not on him or even Poch, there are no other clubs going into a season with only 1 fit striker. Even Everton have more options.

If he gets 9 goals in his next 20 games then he's matched Didier Drogba's output of 10 from 26 in his first PL season.

9 in 20 doesn't seem undoable if this team can start gelling and we get a few players back from injury ...

Not really it is physical.

Physically Jackson is not ready for PL. The fact that the has last so far is impressive.

We played primarily PL teams all pre-season and he was dominating defenders.

Obviously teams are more likely to put it all in in the league but the drop off is still crazy.

In pre season, no team/player play with 100% intensity. They won't kick you or smash you. Once season start, it is whole another story.

Playing as st in PL is extemely physical. You can see the drop off in Jackson physical output since his 1st game. This is normal stuff. He is not ready physically.

The bottom line is that he should have had at least 4 goals, probably more. That he hasn't is nowt to do with physicality. His problem has been in the 6 yard box. His reaction time - Chilly's cross landing on his forehead, hitting him on the forehead, almost surprising him when he had a clear sight of it; his inability to sort out his feet, including at least one air shot. Inexperience under pressure? Possibly. Losing confidence now? Highly likely.

I think it is purely a confidence thing, he is so desperate to score he's being too frantic when trying to shoot. The discipline thing is abject disappointment at not performing as he knows he can. His performances are deteriorating as Werners did. During pres season, they were, as an attacking unit, carving their way through, every defence they met, Nkunkus injury totally f**ked the attacking unit as a whole. Just as things were showing signs of getting back there, Chukies injury did the same thing. Those are the two key players, that we are seriously missing, they are the only ones capable of being the glue, holding the attack together.
