Absolutely telling and on character for this team that we have not buried the huge amount of big chances, half chances and great positions we have gotten in. A set piece and a huge mistake by Blackburn is what makes this 2-0. Just not that promising, as always.

I don't get this Jackson lad. 

Nice to win, but not exactly a great performance. Against any decent side, I think that would have been a massive struggle. Still switching off defensively at times, still breaking down in attack, still too slow and lack aggression at times.

Cole Palmer will walk player of the year for us if this continues. Genuinely looks like the only real talent in the squad right now. He's the only player that makes me sit up and expect to see something happen.

It's true but we have to look up not down. My view remains that this is a talented squad, heaps of upside. Should be doing better than it actually is, but now we have too many defensive midfielders and not enough attackers. For the most part big Les was very impressive tonight and I'd be happy seeing more of him. But then there is also Caicedo and eventually Lavia. Meantime right now there is no alternative to Jackson. Jackson may well come good but clearly very low on confidence and doesn't believe in himself. Its the coach that needs to fix that, somehow.

Good to see Reece get some minutes, had some nice moments but maybe not 100% sharp yet...

Sterling I thought came off the boil a bit at one point but then found his composure again and had a good game overall.

Really the only concern for me is Jackson looked quite dejected.

Newcastle and Liverpool are the two most likely winners.

Only way one of them does not win is of they face each other, then the winner plays West Ham,  or us if Poch sorts out our attack, in the semi.

Pool vs Toon final looks likely if the draw keeps them apart.

They should be where we are in the league right now. A few world class goals against the likes of Burnley and Sheffield United are the only reason why they're not. They look like they can get smashed by everybody. We drop points because we lack concentration at vital moments, United drop points because they get dominated all over the pitch.

Wasn't the prettiest but never really got out of first gear and won the game, job done.
