Chelsea v Leicester City (FA Cup) Sun 17th Mar 24 12:45 GMT

Featured Replies

Wonder what odds you could have got on us getting all home draws from round 2 to the quarter finals of the league cup and round 3 to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in the same season?

Pair that with City away last season in both cups third rounds and I reckon Mod could have made some serious cash, lol.

Anyways here is the match thread for our FA Cup quarter final up and ready for use after the Newcastle game.

No replays, extra time if level after 90 plus stoppage time, penalties if level after that.

Perhaps Colwill will be back? Chalobah didn’t look great on the left. Chukwumeka may also get more minutes.

I thought Trev was fine, long balls were a bit sloppy though

He wasn't the reason our left side was targeted, if anything I thought he covered for the curly haired one pretty well.

I think the left side was targetted because Sterling was no help at all, yes Cucu has a mistake in him, when his quick challenge and nicking the ball fails. Plus he's rusty and returning from injury, the biggest signal to me of that, was the fact his forward passing was off. He's actually pretty good at long incisive passes through the line, but of course nobody see's that because of the poodle haircut.

I don't think that explains two players aggressively pressing Cucurella literally every time he touched the ball. Plus he was still a liability in the second half when Gallagher was moved to the left to provide more cover.

You probably have a point about rust, he's been out a while afterall. But his weaknesses were evident pre-injury.

You don't double team a weak player, you double team stronger players. This demonstrates as much as he's slagged off on here, other teams do rate him. But they also realise, they can get lucky at the same time. His overly impulsive tackles don't always work, and with being double teamed, he can only choose one to cover fully. Brilliant defending if he chooses right, looks a mug if he chooses wrong. That's where a good tactical manager will quickly assess the situation, and react to minimise the problem. ANY defender in this situation, is damned if they do, and damned if they don't. You don't come through Barcelonas academy unless your pretty good.

You're confusing double-teaming (two players containing and trying to limit a player, a-la every team vs Hazard) with a pressing trigger (player X is unlikely to hurt us and is poor on the ball so pressure him and he'll make a mistake).

"overly impulsive" is just not a trait you can justify having in your back-line. The potential gains are massively outweighed by the downsides. When he gets it right he retains possession in our half, which is helpful but when he gets it wrong our entire defensive shape is sacrificed. We concede goals as a direct result of his poor decision making.

If he was a better defender he wouldn't have to take all these risks, or at the very least he'd be smart enough to be able to calculate when he can or cannot take a risk.

Actually is Enzo suspended? If so Carney gets his spot in my team.

Yes he is. Probably means Conor drops next to Caicedo, while Sterling, Mudryk and Palmer play off Jackson.

PA are reporting that Jamie Vardy, that blast from the past, won’t be fit to play Leicester’s FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea on Sunday. “It’s small problems, I have said many times, we all love Jamie Vardy but he is 37 and we can not forget that,” said the Leicester manager, Enzo Maresca. “Fortunately it is not a big issue and it is the international break [after] which we can hopefully have all of our players back.” In case you’re wondering, Vardy has 15 goals in 28 games this season.

Good for us but a shame from a spectacle perspective. Vardy is hilarious and a freak of sports science.

From a recent Athletic article:

His pre-match routine of three Red Bulls, an espresso and a ham and cheese omelette hasn’t changed either.

Coventry just provided the perfect example of why there is no such thing as an easy cup draw !

Unless you and City or Liverpool, then every draw is an easy draw unless they play each other.

Can Leicester be the second midlands side from the championship to go to a PL side and knock them out?

Championship Wolves beat Klopp's Liverpool in the FA Cup 5th round at Anfield in 2016/17 ...

And then a year later, League 1 Wigan knocked out Man City ... also in the 5th round ...

So it can happen to anyone !

Hopefully not us tomorrow though :-)

I am sure that the press and the FA would love a Man City vs. Liverpool final. But for some reason I feel like City are going to draw the winners of United vs. Liverpool in the semi.
