It's all well and good signing these talented players but I think they reach their potential quicker when they are playing with winners next to them. We have one of the best academies in world football apparently so why don't we invest in some 23-26 year olds to help us win now and bring some youngsters through that we already have on our books. I wouldn't mind this signing so much if we already had a strong winning core in the first team. He is going to be on u-23

He will probably go to u-21 or Strasbourg This is a Joe Shields signing. Very much a wait and see but I feel we all had a similar skepticism with Palmer. Never scored a Premier League goal and finishes the season with the most G/A

May 20, 20242 yr How often do these wonderkids ever turn out to be the real deal? I recall the likes of Ganso, Denilson (Arsenals version), Our own Kenedy, Kerrison, Kerlon (an ex champ manager favourit), Alex Teixeira, Gabigol (was it barbosa?), Our own Lucas Piazon, Alipio, Lulinha...Not to mention our current batch (Washington, Angelo, Santos - who all struggled this year.... the list goes on and on.... For every 1 Neymar, there are 50 other flash in the pans.

Apparently the club used to be criticized in Brazil during the Roman era as we were targeting players that Brazilians didn't rate in the slightest. I'm not going to pretend I am some expert on Estevao but he very much looks like to be in the same category as Rodrygo, Vinicius, Endrick, and Roque. Palmeiras manager even going as far as saying he's a bigger prospect than Endrick.

A player being too skinny to play in the Premier League is outdated by at least 20 years at this point. Mahrez was very skinny. Bernardo Silva is one of the best players in the league and he is one of the lightest players. Estevao is also still growing. It's very doubtful that he won't be at least another 5kg's heavier by the time the 2025-26 season starts.

May 20, 20242 yr I’m sure he’s a very talented player but we don’t exactly have a great track record with Brazilian youths.
May 20, 20242 yr With Palmer, we already seen his cameos with City, and he was very good. He played in 2 cup finals weeks before he joined us, so his ability is there to be seen. If KDB was injured during pre-season, he'd probably get a first team chance and stayed. A 16 year old Brazilian kid played a handful games is a completely different prospect and carries a high risk profile. He may turn out to be a really good player if he does all the right things on and off the field, but a lot could happen before he even comes to London. Like other said, for 50-60M you get a good winger between 23-25, ready to play next season and still has plenty of re-sale values in 4-5 years time.

There were loads of skepticism with Palmer's signing. Even you weren't convinced he was something we needed.

May 21, 20242 yr If Estevao is a business plan it is a risky one. However I think you need to go high risk high reward if you want to find players like Mbappe, Vini Jr, Cole Palmer.

Why bet for the like of Estevao when you can get Olise. Real can do this because they are already loaded and la liga is a much easier league.

A bit sobering, isn’t it 😂 Doesn’t mean Estevao isn’t a fantastic talent though, just might have to adjust the expectations of his immediate impact a little
