Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*

Featured Replies

Things will get better when he gets Palmer back, so this US tour could get worse from now on. Not defending him ( way too early for that), but when you change  manager every season, the pre-season and early season  will be  a mess.

Stats nerds have ruined the game, it's all data driven now, all far too "percentage". If we keep the ball for 65% then we have 35% more chance of not conceding, but we need the ball in the 48% position, whole having 75% of socks rolled up. 1-0 guaranteed......

Utter f**king dross, games now dictated by nerds who were last last pick their entire lives.

It's worse seeing our own fans embrace it. They forget that our most successful period was against all of that stat driven nonsense. People today would look at the stats of us vs Arsenal in the mid to late 2000's and think Arsenal were the better team and were unlucky, but it was neither. We were the better team, we scored the goals, Arsenal had no answer, even if the stats would say they had more possession.

I wonder if it has dawned on Enzo that the defenders the SDs have assembled simply cannot play out from the back?

Gusto sure, Cucurella was Tuchels signing, Veiga we will see.

Not one of our CBS can though. Them plus Sanchez will gift away so many goals.

The tour has been a sh** show so far and the inverted full back looks cr**. However game 2 was nevertheless a big improvement from game 1 partly due to Celtic attacking more but partly due to us actually playing better in the midfield.

I won't be judging the team, the owners or management on preseason, but I'd be the first to agree it's been garbage so far. If we must have an inverted fullback Cucu is the only one that knows how to do it. James doesn't have the recovery pace to get back into position and frankly isn't sufficiently defensive minded to do the running work on turnovers.

You can also argue that now is indeed the time to have the seemingly big weaknesses of the system exposed. The truer test of a team is not how you perform when things go well but how you deal with adversity. I know that's a trite saying but thats when you find out about character and mentality. No doubt things can get a lot worse yet.

yikes.

I know pre-season isnt usually the predictor of how you perform in the season but usually when we have bad pre-seasons we usually have bad seasons even under Roman. I hope that doesnt hold to be the case this time around

Everyone can keep saying it’s pre season but this exactly how we will play next season. Top 6 is a pipe dream!!

We are going to get an absolute pasting on the opening day.

Excuse the rant:

I would take two f**king cow testicles over whatever we have now running the club. Those two so called sporting directors are f**king useless. They are as useful as a winter jacket in the Sahara desert and a vest in Antarctica!!

The reason we have a full back invert is it lets a midfielder get further forward. It'd make sense to just have two midfielders hold and let James bomb on down the wing. Or Gusto.

If James or gusto are on the pitch then after what I've seen so far from preseason I agree. Or they could be more dynamic and switch during actual games and mess with the opposition.

The last sentence of your post is why I believe Carlo is the best Manager of the 21st century. He stands alone for me. Above Pep, Jose and anyone else you care to mention. Almost every player that’s played for him absolutely loves him. Pep and Jose wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable to play for I reckon.

There's a good article about him in the guardian and dont forget his son. They make an amazing team...carlo old skool, with his son adding the garnish.

He’s not even copying Pep he’s taking one idea of his and arrogantly sticking with it at worlds end.

Pls no...I hope that's not the case. I really hope he's a proper tactical coach. As in can change/adjust tactics too. 😥

When I was watching us play with an inverted full back towards the end of last season, I thought we were on to something. Watching it in pre-season is making me feel the opposite. It looks so clumsy, and suddenly the whole defence look completely clueless, like they have never played at this level before.

I don't know what the hell that was today, but it was one of the weirdest shapes to a defence that I have ever seen.

The whole game looked weird. From 5 players on the half way line in the first half to whatever that was in midfield in the second half.

I'm going to chill, relax and hope Maresca is the manager I hoped he was. Those youtube vids are fkn deceiving!

A Pep clone I hear coined a lot, more like f**king Pepto-bismol!

Do Leicester have a 'return-to-sender'?

Mate...if its like this by the end of preseason then I'll pay the postage.

And these are meant to be the easier training games, imagine this lot against City in less than a month! We are going to get bent over like Bieber!

'Inverted' - what a joke! ....f**king inverted club more like!

We've got city, RM, inter then to start the season City again. Ermmmm...I honestly don't know how much "practice" we will get in getting used to this system in that time.

These are supposed to be top athletes too, I'm sure losing even friendlies will have a negative mental affect on them. We need a win or at least a really good game to help these kids know they are on the right path, not to drop their heads and keep believing in themselves.

Plenty of running back as our offside line is broken, plenty of Sanchez picking the ball out of the net.

It has inverted in to a corprate entity. We are not a football club any more.

Our fans are "customers".

Yep, get Eden in that shirt, the sales will be great! He was only there for a burger!

I maintain they are smart businessmen, and will make a ton off us.

Eden a great example, help sell shirts, help gets us a sponsorship deal with Burger King. 👍

Ugh, just not optimistic about this season at all tbh.

I don't think Enzo is good enough for this job and reverting back to this style of football was a bad move, it just made last season a complete waste.

I am trying to be as open-minded as I can be, you know.. early days and all, but we can't be having another write off season. This is a perfect opportunity to get back into the top 4, we have to take it.

No we do not ... All sales are final !!

I'm glad that he's gone but having said that we have lots of supporters saying how great Maresca was. He could still do a job for you once he gets the team selection right but he needs a Plan B ..

My Plan B is to send him back to Leicester. We were led to believe he's the new Pep, but it increasingly looks like he's just a winner of the Pep lookalike contest.

Who is us here mate. They wont be making much money off me. How will they make money? Via the club value going up? Not if results are bad. Through player profits? Right now they are running at a loss.

They are smart guys financially and I'm keen to learn how I can spend a fortune on a football club and start making a ton off fans.

Will see over these 8 years Oz. Just my opinion they will do well out of it.

I still think it was madness getting rid of Poch.  As I’ve mentioned before, I thought last season was actually decent compared to the s*** show the year before.  Yes we dropped lots of points but it was entertaining, lots of goals scored etc, we were a good watch, particularly from Christmas onwards.  Most importantly, players wanted to play for him.

Poch deserved this season with the mandate that top 4 was a must and it would be the sack if he failed.  To my mind, top 4 was easily back on.

Now we are back to over complicated boring keep ball, players not buying into it, or being able to do it so top 4, no chance.

The press will have a field day where we will look incredibly stupid, getting rid of a manager, even though it was mutual, on an upward trajectory for Pep Lite!

I don’t think Poch is a winning manager but it made sense to keep the upward trajectory for a couple of more seasons and then switch managers when we have been top 4 for a couple of seasons (I.e. when Ranieri had his 4 seasons before switching to Mourinho)…

These owners have made so many stupid decisions I don’t know which one is the worst!!
