Maybe, but 30 is not that old for a GK as you know. He could easily play 5 seasons for us and then cash out and GO Saudi League.

I think we'd very quickly find out that Maignan is the same level as Kepa/Petrovic/Sanchez, albeit better than Jorgensen.

When we tasked Cech with finding us a new #1 keeper a few years back, it is worth remembering that he went for Mendy over Maignan.

13th best keeper in Serie A last season on Save percentage and 15th best on post shot expected goals conceded (basically he lets in a couple that he really ought to save)

If this is who we are signing then you can add the data analytics team to the exit wish list of back room staff, which in my book is becoming almost as lengthy as that of the playing staff.

Yes, when you look at it like that. Kepa/Petrovic/Sanchez are not the worst keepers - we just need somebody better. One should trust the Petr Cech and as you say we got Mendy.

Emiliano Martinez would be my choice. He is only 32.

He’s still France’s #1.

He’s arguably got 2 World Cups left in him. That gets tattered the moment he leaves a top league.

At £40m I understand the sudden interest. Was a quality keeper a couple years ago and a new move could do well for him.

Sancho probably the best winger we had this season, out but understandable. The ownership left us with Jackson as our only striker for 2 seasons. Sanchez replacement is also 2 years late.

I will never thank the ownerships for fixing their mistakes far too late.

I don't mind the idea of Maignan signing but its basically a massive middle finger to anyone we have signed and sent out on loan that no matter how good you do the chances are you won't be given a chance if they can profit off of you. Petrovic has done everything and more to be number one next season.

I thought I was going mad, why are people on here praising this guy up so much? Did any of you watch Milan last season? They were crap, and Maignan was also pretty crap every time I watched him. I would rather stick with Sanchez.

Can't say I've watched him more than 10 times but I have to admit I don't know where all the hype comes from. Even for France he's never impressed and looked a little dodgy at times. Yeah Frances number one, but who's his completion? He's another "good" with his feet merchant, but lacking in his hands. Has a good few brain farts Sanchez style too in the small sample I've seen.

I'm starting to think the main problem right now is Winstanley and Stewart (and whoever else) putting too much emphasis on market opportunities (many examples with Felix being the most pointless, and Delap the most recent) instead of finding the right profile for Maresca and sticking with it. We're trying to play like Pep but have strikers who strive in transition, so we can't break down low blocks. 5 left footed wingers, and only disqualified Mudryk on the other side.

On the other hand there is a core of really good young players. Maignan goes the other way in that regard. I was excited at first but now that I think about it they should stick to their guns and hope either Jorgensen or Petrovic becomes elite next season. They probably need to sell Sanchez (even though he wasn't THAT bad)

Start with Penders (go the Donnarumma route). If he proves not ready bring in Petrovic.

Don't believe this rumor for a second, more of those PR happy meals like throwing in Viktor G name when we have no intention to sign him.

That's what I went for in the 25/26 Squad thread.

In the absence of any obviously better candidates, I can't believe we don't have a workable solution for next season from the 13 keepers we already have :

Sanchez ; Jorgensen ; Petrovic ; Arrizabalaga ; Penders ; Bettinelli ; Bergstrom ; Sharman-Lowe ; Beach ; Slonina ; Merrick ; Curd ; Campbell

No. Stick with Sanchez and Petrovic. Put a Ben Foster 3rd GK for all I care.

Just no more GKs of a lower tier than the ones we have

Not a £40m upgrade on Petrovic so I wouldn't bother. Just stick with that we have and use that money elsewhere.

I remember him being really good about 2 seasons ago when Onana was still over there but I think he, along with everyone else, has struggled at Milan this season.

I might just be getting old or the clubs recent transfer history has destroyed all hope but I just can't get excited for any new signings everyone has question marks, or is it just me?

This transfer makes so much sense to me.

We get a very good goalkeeper in to keep us going for a few years until Penders is ready to step in.

Petrovic looks very good but I have a feeling this is his pinnacle, now is the best time to sell before his value plummets. Sanchez, whatever, release him.

But do we want it to? Someone who watches him often, @Scott Harris , has said above he is not even average, he once was really good but perhaps his best days are behind him, a Sterling like signing.

Based on our recent keeper signings, I can totally believe that. Ben Robert’s seems a pretty transfer guy.

Also the speculated price is 40mill. Way too high imo.

He had a poor season, by all acounts, last year. He has 1 year left on his deal and then walks for free just like Donnarumma did to them.

As a keeper that puts him on the cheapest bracket for 1 year left on deals signings, starting at most expensive strikers, then wingers and other attacks, work your way back etc

His price should be half that. Milan need money and have no European football next season.
