So something of a quid pro quo LOL

Petrovic is not going to come back and play second choice after the season he has had.Isn't this the whole point of this younger project? I keep getting told that we sign young players so we don't need to go out and spend premium later......well one of those young players is showing signs that he could potentially become world class, and instead of making him number 1, we are now looking to sign a goalkeeper who looks like he is on a downwards trajectory.I don't think you're wrong there, but imo Maresca has made his mind about Petro last year, regardless of what he did this season with Strasbourg. If anything I believe our owners are looking at the younger ones (Slonina/Penders) as the potential world class ones, so Petro/Sanchez would be just a sidestep. That's why Maignan coming in and Petro being the one that fights him for the #1 shirt is the best I can hope at the moment.

This is no comment against him, just hope our unveiling of our statement signing doesn't occur on the same day the scouse unveil Wirtz to the worldPerhaps the underlying statement is "we're not quite ready to fire Ben Roberts yet, but we're getting close !"

June 3, 20251 yr Age wise it makes sense, we seem to be really high on Penders who's 19 so wouldn't surprise me to see us send him to Strasbourg for a couple of years and then bring him back.

Player performs you get more, club performs as well get even more.In his case:20mill euros fixed fee.4mill euros if he plays 50%, or more, of our matches next season.4mill euros if he keeps 12 or more clean sheets next season.6mill euros if we make top 4 next season.Something like that.Come on you can be a bit more creative with the add ons.4m if he wins the champions league 6m if he wins the ballon d Or

He never had one training session with Petrovic before saying Sanchez was his number one. It was the same with Chalobah, Chukwuemeka and Chilwell.
June 3, 20251 yr Can we just sign Emiliano Martinez instead? Emi Martinez - Dibu is a penalty specialist, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he is already premiership ready. He is 33 in September - lots of experience - still some years in him. World Cup winner. He has won all the top goalkeeping awards, many times. He has paid his dues - he has been on loan at Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Reading. He doesn't have to "adjust" to our league. He is a big lad - 6ft 5". IF we are going to play with a bunch of kids, it would be useful to have a grown up helping to organise our defence. AND Aston Villa are trying to sign Caoimhin Kelleher for £30million.

June 4, 20251 yr I think we should have signed Maignan when he was still at Lille but here we are now and I think he would be an excellent signing on and off the field. His age is a bonus because he keeps the pathway clear for Petrovic or Penders to be a future #1, much like Courtois/Cech.Maignan has had a bad season (relatively speaking), but that is in the context ofbeing a target of racial abuse in Serie A through 2024, limited action by the leaguesuicidal defensive tactics under Conceicaoclub stalling on a contractDespite a poor season his numbers are more or less the same as Sanchez's this season...who supposedly had a 'good' one. I think he could be a Mendy-like signing for a couple of years to bridge the gap. Edited June 4, 20251 yr by SydneyChelsea

I feel as if the club are waiting on Penders to be the right age, Petrovic wouldn’t play second fiddle then. So, why not get some much needed experience in the squad while we wait for Penders. Throw in the fact that on his day he’s a massive upgrade on what we have.
June 4, 20251 yr Maignan is more reliable than Bobby Sanchez but also a worse goalkeeper than Bobby Sanchez.Less brain farts but a lot more Kepa esque, he should’ve probably saved that moments.Another colossal waste of money after the season Petrovic has just had (and had before being loaned out but that’s another story)Hopefully this is just paper talk and doesn’t go through.
June 4, 20251 yr We did this whole thing last season when we bought Jorgensen. £25m and a complete waste of money. I’ve got no faith that this will be any better.

June 4, 20251 yr Hearing different things about this guy - some are saying he's a world class keeper, others say he's average.confusing.

Now whether u believe Maignans form has dipped recently and he won’t get it back etc or not on paper getting hold of the French No 1 at 29, prime for a keeper for £25m with the form our keepers are in is not unreasonable or unrealistic. We paid almost that for Penders before he’d hardly kicked a first team football. They don’t see the benefit of an instant upgrade to use a term the kids might get. Someone who can come in and move the first team needle straight away, not in a few years. Not talking specifically about Maignan here. This is the season they can show us whether this project is about signing the stars of tomorrow aligned with first team success today or are we just horse trading kids with potential for profit and if we win the odd thing bonus?

Watch what price these morons value Kepa at though to get shot.If it was Marina driving these deals i would say, maybe she could pull it off. You just know these clowns will either embarrass themselves and back out or they'll crumble anyway.
June 4, 20251 yr Remember it took these muppets all summer haggling over £10m on Caicedo before Eghbali had to step in and get it over the line.
June 4, 20251 yr I suspect it’ll probably happen and a middle ground will be met. Not going to win major prizes with Sanchez/Jorgensen/Kepa. Unsure on Petrovic, thought he was quite average whilst here, but allegedly had an excellent season on loan.
June 4, 20251 yr Author lol, 8m for a goalkeeper like Maignan is an insult. Watch them to tell us to f*ck off.
