I am genuinely surprised at how poor they really are. I am revising my thoughts for relegation candidates. I thought Burnley, Brentford and Wolves would struggle with Sunderland and Leeds as possibilities. But if they do not undergo immediate surgery everywhere West Ham look like fodder to me.

The Potter effect to me ... don't think you could say any of the West Ham players were working hard... reminds me of how awful we used to be under him.

Great result after a slow start. Even though he didn’t score I thought Delap had a great game. Held the ball well and brought in others. Disappointed with the rhythm after the substitutions but if it protects certain players then ok.

I put the slow start down to the players adjusting to a change to the fact that the plan / set up was abandoned due to Palmers withdraw.

Delap is a throwback of a player leading the line. He bullied their CDs who simply didn’t have the strength or guile to deal with him.

In terms of changes to a large degree for the players like Fofana aren’t just returning following an injury they are going through their pre season. I never played at a high level but nice we had a lead that wasn’t going to be overturned it gets very difficult to keep the same level of intensity.

Apparently they never had a player booked in the whole game. Lost 5-1 at home to a major London rival who. Let's be honest, went home on 70 mins, and they never got near enough or aggressive enough to even pick up a booking.

It's a typical Potter side for me.

It was telling when Smith said during commentary that even on their game and playing well West Ham struggle to score goals. Classic Potter. Has followed him throughout his career in England

Reading back at some of the comments at the start of the game. Jesus you guys don't half over react. A lot of Maresca outs, look at what we've won over the last few months, how we finished last season, and we play 10mins of bad football and you're calling for the managers head??

The operative words here are "reading back", so typical hindsight post. The first 20 minutes or so were bad and painfully slow, of which we had seen enough last season (and last week against Palace) to fear we were reverting back to Maresca's inept tactics. And BTW the Hammers' overall performance was dreadful, so we still don't know how we will hold up against better opposition.

Yeah review of that game is always going to be hard.

That is one of the worst PL performances I can remember, from a WHU perspective at least

Just makes it that much harder to see where we actually are. I suppose we took our chances.

Would’ve personally started Josh & Trev, I understand why he went with Tosin but we need to stop swapping around at the back and I think some stability there will go a long way.

Estevao is special, JP is fantastic, Delap is a proper striker, Neto remains a frustration.

That’s them in a nutshell for me.

Obviously happy with the 5-1 win.😀

Couldn’t believe the amount of time and space we gave them for their goal.

Happily it seemed to waken us up and our equaliser came at the right time, as they didn’t have any time to settle on their lead. When we got the second and third I thought for a time we looked really good and we cut through them almost at will.

I like the look of Delap. A very hard working forward, who never gives defenders any time.

Estevao looks something special. Thought Caicedo and ‘Cucu’ both played well.

We switched off understandably at 5-1. Yet we could and probably should have had another two goals late in the second half.

Agreed, although I think that was a 9-1 in the making potentially. Fernandez skies the ball over the bar literally from the unmarked penalty spot and Estevao fussed around when he should have trusted his instincts when in on goal. At a comfortable 7-1 who knows what further collapse they might have had and what pickings there may have been for us.

5-1 is a fairly regular level of drubbing nowadays. 8s and above is a statement, a statement that normally brings a P45 with it for the recipient.

Well my opinion on Maresca's football still hasn't changed. A win against Graham Potter's West Ham of all teams isn't going to change that. It ended up being a win with a lot of goals, but it was a game full of errors by both teams, theirs were just more ridiculous. Another team would have punished us for the amount of free headers we gave away from set pieces. There were some good individual moments from us, but I don't think we played a great game.

I always find it funny that we get comments like this from people who have done the same themselves in the past.

It literally is no different from City spanking Wolves last weekend yet you weren’t shy in praising their performance 🤷

They have been horrific today against Spurs. Far worse than we were against Palace.

Because City were very good last weekend. They dominated that game from minute 1 to minute 90, without making any errors. Our game yesterday had many errors in it, but we won simply by having more talent.

City f**ked up today and show that they have similar problems to last season, but that doesn't mean my post about their performance last weekend was any less true. If we had beaten West Ham in the same fashion, I wouldn't have had any complaints.

Nonsense. City faced a Wolves side tipped for relegation and Wolves still managed to give them a few scares.

Your main complaint against West Ham was our inability to challenge them aerially when their smallest outfield player attacking set pieces was 6”0. You’re also pretending we are all of a sudden weak at defending set pieces when that was arguably our biggest improvement post Poch.

Criticism is warranted when it due but you lot have turned insufferable.

Citeh v Spurs has been freakish for a few seasons, sh*te Spurs teams have usually got excellent results against them recently. Even that awful Spurs side from last year.

I remember Ange' s first 10 games when Spurs fans were over the moon , but I reckon Frank is different class.

Can't help it, I really like Jarred Bowen. I feel for him actually tied to West Ham simply because of his father in law. He would be great here and is our type of player as well. With us he'd be one England's biggest stars.

Yeah, I really like him, much too good for West Ham, they are f**ked as it is, without Bowen they would be well, even more f**ked .

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something?

My main complaint was our poor defender from set pieces. But I also had issues with the slow start, how slow we were at creating chances, taking us another 10 minutes to register a single shot on goal, these are things I have had an issue with for a while now, so I don't know why you expect me to ignore that when it was the same problem again yesterday. I'm also not pretending we are weak from set pieces, I'm saying in this one game it was very poor.

I've also said there were good individual performances. Neto had a very good game, our MOTM. Estevao's run into the box to set up Enzo's goal was the best piece of quality in the game. Pedro's goal, assist and his defending from set pieces, I praised that too. Delap's strength was something I like to see and something we lacked last season. So it's not like my entire overview of the game is a negative one, it's just the one that you have chosen to laser focus on. Overall, there are more positives to take away from the game than negative (we did win 5-1!) but there are also issues I have with the performance that will and already has hurt us this season.

Every team experiences slow starts. City apparently didn’t feel like starting at all today. Ask Liverpool fans what their biggest complaint is with their team and they’ll tell you how their defence constantly switches off. This isn’t exclusive to just us believe it or not.

All of our players have had 30-60 minutes of football before the Palace game. What were you honestly expecting?

Praising City & Liverpool whilst the former just got humiliated and the latter almost bottled a 2-0 lead.
