Wharton being discussed at 75-100 mill, yet he wasnt good enough to make the England Squad for the world cup?

Will he make a difference if we sign him or will we be just getting someone different to the unpopular Enzo?

Joao Pedro is a 80m+ striker and didn't make the world cup.

Shouldn't be a slant on the player if the manager is a knobhead.

He’s the best available fit next to Caicedo, he’s PL proven and he’s a huge upgrade on Enzo. Tuchel has a sh*t the bed moment not taking him this summer.

I’d say if we pull this off we’re in a title race.

It’s just an added positive that he’s young & English.

Something about the old JT/Lamps/Cole spine just made us that more likeable IMO.

Colwill/RJ/Palmer/Rogers + Wharton makes us have nearly half the starting XI being English.

Genuinely think one of the biggest failures Tuchel had was trying to force Rice and Anderson in the pivot.

Play one of those two next to Wharton and the world cup might have been different.

Only thing I can find, albeit all clickbait, is Liverpool and City interest in Wharton. I hope there is truth to our interest and they’re working it quietly behind the scenes like Rogers.

we were linked with him earlier in the window but it has gone quiet in recent weeks. I cannot see anything happening unless we offload Enzo. In that case will Palace be willing to sell Wharton so close to the end of the window when they will need to bring in a replacement?

Either Wharton or Gibbs-White being in the squad and its a completely different world cup for us, and thats ignoring not taking one of Palmer/Foden to give him something different to bring on when needed, like in a semi final and being pinned back by cowardly tactics....

You cant hold not being picked by tuchel against any player, his squad choices were utterly moronic.

Or he could be another Carlos Baleba. We can buy him for half the price next season when he has an average season and turns out to be not as good as we thought. Same with Adam Scott. Both far from sure things both close to £100m

I don’t know.

He’s been Palaces key for the last season and a half, led them to a Domestic & a European trophy in that time, being integral to that success.

He seems to be able to handle the pace and physicality of the Premier League, which is Enzo’s biggest struggle alongside picking out forward passes.

I think he’s the perfect compliment to Caicedo.

Alex Scott seems pointless from the viewpoint of he’s just a younger Connor Gallagher, who we sold for half the price we’re now being quoted for Scott.

No transfer is ever a ‘sure thing’ but Wharton’s profile and resume seem to be the damn closest thing you can get in this day.

Exactly how I feel. Would be massive if we could replace Enzo with Wharton.

Only thing that would stop us being title contenders would be injuries to key players and Sanchez being in goal.

Having watched quite a few Wharton matches I do think some are overhyping him a wee bit into some kind of game changer. When in reality he has some good games and some bad like any youngster. I find him to be a little light weight and weak for a central midfielder at times. Thinking of those midfield battles with the top sides will he be able to compete? For all Enzo's flaws and some think he has more than other you cant deny he's a fighter and has that dog in him. Not sure I see that in Wharton. Not like we've not hyped up young English players before, Jack Rodwell, and Wilshere come to mind.

Enzo had fight in him for sure. Unfortunately he often spent too much time on his arse, looking for the ref to give him a free-kick, when the opposition were on the counter attack putting us under pressure with said Enzo nowhere to be seen.

And for the recordv I have never overhyped any player. Well, not since Josh McEachran anyway.......................

To be fair he had a look at him, but I think he is overhyped and heavily protected in a 3-4-3 formation. He will get exposed in a back 4.

My big concern is buying players like Palestra and a Wharton for a back 3, if it goes wrong you are then screwed because they are awful in a back 4z

Are you forgetting Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi? If it wasn't for the injuries they may have been the same players they are now.

Some say that’s how we signed Garnacho.

Palaces manager has come out today and said he will not be sold this summer.

I've been confident that they wouldn't sell him for a while now. Palace play it smart when it comes to selling their best players. They let Zaha go, but kept hold of Olise and Eze. They let Olise go, but kept hold of Eze. They let Eze go but kept hold of Guehi (until they were forced to sell in January because they would have lost him on a free transfer) They sold Lacroix, but they will keep Wharton.

Even if Palace were willing to sell now, the directors of this club are not competent enough to complete the transfer within the remaining transfer window.

He's been world class for Palace in the first half today.

Probably should have bought Sangare instead of Brentford
