Did you see our bench? No one there is going to help us win a game so who comes on is irrelevant.

If we don't put the game to bed with your starting XI the game is as good as lost cause that bench isn't going to help us.

He didn’t have to put out that bench though; no sane person sticks 3 defenders and 3 DMs on the bench. This has been an ongoing issue with our subs bench even under Maresca. Either the managers aren’t bold enough to make the call, or the SDs are calling the shots. You look at Utd bench, and Malacia is the only defender on the bench. Carrick started 19yr old Heaven, stuck 2 midfielders from the U21s , and a winger from their U21s on the bench. We currently have our U18s and U21s dominating their respective youth leagues. He could have dropped a defender and a DM, and added 2 creative players from our youth team. It just seems we are more interested in keeping player values up than winning games.

You're assuming there's actually a plan.

Yes, but put one or more of Derry, Kavuma-Mcqueen, Walsh and Mheuka there. At least it would insert some excitement and intent into the game, but no. Instead we have three centre backs and three centre midfielders there. Thats on Rosenior

Is it Rosenior decision or a club decision is the real question.

I personally feel that the club are are more interested in the likes of Tosin, Garnacho. Gittens etc... miraculously playing thier way into form than giving the likes of Derry, Kavuma-McQueen etc... a fair chance in the 1st team.

This is why Rio signed for Liverpool instead - we didnt even play Tyrique George as a winger we stuck him upfront setting him up for failure.

I personally would have more of a connection with this team if players like Mueka or Derry (players that are smashing it at youth level) were given more oppotunities over the likes of Guiu, Delap and Garnacho.

We already know these players we've bought aren't good enough at this level so why not give youth more of a chance.

We're hitting rock bottom, it can't get any worse by playing them.

Pinocchio would never think up something fresh. He's not paid to think just to talk

If we're being honest, if he finishes this season as our manager we have zero chance at getting champions league football, if we get an interim in then we still have a chance providing Aston Villa win the Europa League. Although this board does not deserve champions league football, they deserve every uncomfortable conversation they're going to have for putting together this sack of sh*t project.

If its a club decision, its still on Rosenior for sacrificing what best for Chelsea to do what the management says

That’s the thing.

Under normal circumstances I’d be screaming for his immediate sacking to save our season, but at what cost? More Garnacho’s? Delap’s? Tosin’s? Gitten’s?

No. Burn it to the ground.

If Villa win the Europa League and finish inside top five, there is no extra UCL spot.

If Villa win the Europa League and finish outside top five, an extra UCL spot is given to them.

I think there is given the coefficient. Theres 5 places automatically so if Villa wins Europa + already qualified, the coefficient would go to 6th.

Literally around a week ago this seemed to be the case according to what you read online but apparently it doesn't go down to 6th for the Champions League.

How 10 Premier League teams could qualify for Europe

Ten Premier League teams in Europe? It sounds preposterous, but it is not as far fetched as it seems.

It's too long to copy and paste here but this article is from 3 days ago and it goes through all the permutations of European qualification.

So it seems I've been rooting for Villa to win the Europa League for nothing lol.

Although the owners and SDs are rubbish, the lack of European football will hurt them and their finances so he will go at the end of the season. The lack of winning in the short term has ruined his long term chances.

Yes, it was all set after the UCL group stage that PL will once again have five spots for next season, too. It only creates an extra 6th spot if Forest win the Europa League or if Villa win the Europa League, but do not finish in the top five.

If Villa finish in top five and win the Europa League, an extra 6th UCL spot is not created for a PL club anymore.

Yeah these are the buffoons who gave him such a long contract..

It was always the case regardless of the subsequent briefings. They made the point in the first press release that Champions League qualification is critical for Rosenior to achieve. Massive fail.

Hopefully for Rosenior there's a substantial pay off fee in his contract. He's an inept coach, it may be a while before he finds a new club, probably in a lower league with lower wages.

All in all I don't envy him. Practically bullied into accepting the Chelsea offer, only to show himself completely inadequate for the eyes of the footballing community. Try to recover from that. And please don't splutter about his high wages, even people on high wages have feelings.

Yes, I have moments of empathy and mildness, sue me.

He will probably end up with an overpaid gig on sky sports punditry where most failed English managers end up

Pretty sure it has already been confirmed that the extra spot would not go to English club in that case.

At this point we are 7 points behind Liverpool in 5th with just 5 games to play. Even if we were to somehow pull off a shock and win at Anfield we would still need to gain 4 points on them elsewhere. I think we can comfortably say after this weekend that we will not be playing Champions League football next season. Realistically Europa is best we can hope for and that even seems unlikely given our run of form.
