If we are prepared to pay that much I don’t understand why we aren’t going for PL tested CB’s. For another 25 million we might be able to get Murillo or maybe even Van De Ven (a bit of sick in my mouth there). Both still young enough to fit our model.

Of course th briefs are out that many top European teams want him, including Arsenal.

Past few years it seems to me if a top European team actually wants one of our targets they get him not us.

That’s an exciting read. We’re due another Palmer or Estevao from young signings (Caicedo was already pretty established given price).

Resale is the biggest influence. It's also much harder to sell a player on 300k than it is a player on 100k, especially if that player is a bust.

The same problems are going to exist. Too young to be expected to put in good performance every game, too young to seriously impact that defence in a positive way, too young to really demand anything from.

Also, what about Anselmino and Sarr? We just stockpile all of these young CB's with similar profiles.

Okay but Guehi wasn't 20m because his wages were 300k. He's 20m because his contract runs out in 6 months. He's the most in-demand defender in world football

If he has 3 years left on his contract, hes 80m and he's still 200k+ in wages.

Liverpool, City and Madrid were all looking at him. City beat the others.

We haven't been in the running for those players for 10 years. Clearlake or no clearlake.

Now we are in the running for players like Murillo, who are an extra 20m on transfer and a bit more in wage. But I don't know if we can actually afford that anymore.

Not sure this deal will go through now or in the future as, if he is as good as touted (the Estevao of centerbacks), I don't see why he would come to us as surely teams with ambitions to win the title or CL would want such a player.

So either he is not that good or he is not coming here. What say you Pierre? Is he the Estevao of centerbacks?

Think it will. He has already been told he will be a guaranteed starter, they will just bump up his current £15k/w wages to £120k/w.

Blows my mind the amount of money that they have wasted on bang average players and “promising” youth players. I don’t trust them.

You need to add resale value.

Plus you need to also make sure that the player fit into your wage bracket.

Great stats. But in the French league. I'm sure Disasi, Tosin and Badiashille could get some decent stats playing in that league. PL is a whole different ball game.

I used to love us signing young players where there is huge potential but we now have a squad full of them with the potential often not being realised. Everyone know we need a more balanced side with a bit of experience, so this signing just underlines the fact that the people running our club are clueless (and only interested in re-sale value).
