Chelsea legend. That one minute he played against Walsall will be forever remembered.

Still can’t believe that we got £10m for him after paying a hundred thousand for him. Whoever did that deal deserves a massive bonus.

Lenny Pidgeley retiring after a long battle with depression. Poor wording in Farnborough's statement. Shows how far many people still have to go in regards to understanding mental health.

Their follow up statement isn't much better either.

The Club would like to clarify its Statement of Wednesday evening.
Specifically, that our comment about the shocking timing, referred to us being shocked regarding the sad information we received on that afternoon, whilst preparing for our FA Cup Replay.

With no goalkeeper available that night we owed the fans an explanation before kick-off, which due to the timings on the night was drafted in haste and did not convey our true thoughts accurately.

The Club fully backs the support and care required in dealing with all mental health issues and meant no harm to Lenny and sincerely apologise for any hurt. This was not our intention.

The Club will make no further comment.

I appreciate they're a semi-pro team but they've still a responsibility to show a level of professionalism when issuing any kind of club statement.

Frankly, they made an absolutely sh*t show out of it. It's embarrassing how poorly any football club, regardless of their standing, could handle something so personal.

One of the worst attempts of back tracking i've seen from a club.

Not sure where to put this but it's f**king hilarious. I've seen it in a couple of iterations now (Marvel films, Bond films) and I think it's great with Chelsea players.

Though I think Essien got disrespected a bit:

That's a very poor statement and indeed goes to show how little understanding there is of mental health conditions, not just in football but in the wider community as a whole. As someone who has battled depression for much of my life my I hope Lenny can get all the help he needs.

I moved down to Hastings/St Leonards on Sea in 2015 and started to follow my local team, Hastings United. Lenny joined them in 2016, making a total of 35 appearances.

I've only just caught up with this topic but it's been a great afternoons reading catching up on all our past players, so many memories right here.

That's plastic surgery for you.  She was a dog and all your mates said you were well rid.  Back to your 19/05/12 DVD and your box of tissues, it will all be alright.

That's sorta true, @Nibs and my argument has been re-hashed so many times I won't go over it again. otherwise my stalker-bitches will crawl out of their holes again, but I don't remember anyone crying over Salah at the time, and very few, if any saw what KdB would actually become.

Just man up, move on and save your tears for the downward career path of poor little Josh.

It's on the Up again. He scored for Brentford the other night. Knew he would come good!

(Let's ignore the fact that was his first ever goal in senior football)

Marko Marin scored against PSG last night in the UCL.

I understand he was just pipped by Neymar for the MOTM award!

I wonder if former forum member Jon Stakes still believes that he was the best defender on the books when Chelsea signed him?

As far as predictions go, that's got to be one of, if not the worst predictions during my five years posting on the Shed End.

Well someome did say we should sell Kante as he's not good enough for Sarri system , I think this ranks up there also in terms of out there comments.

Sometimes you read stuff on the internet and think to yourself "do they really believe what they're typing, or are they just typing it because it sounds intelligent?" I must admit though, that Kante one is up there with the best on this site!

Kante out just because we lack a goal scoring midfielder? and replace him with Pogba? It's madness.

that is exactly what the pundits are saying so it seems that that argument is just rehashing what is being said by the meja

It was once said you could win the Champions League with a team of 11 Azpilicuetas.

I'm pretty sure they could be defeated by a team of 10 Azpilicuetas and just 1 Kante.

I’m pretty sure they could be defeat by a team of 1 Kante. He doesn’t need those Daves getting in his way!

Our friend & colleague Glenn Hoddle was taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio this morning.

For that reason there will be no @btsportscore - but we will be live as usual for the 5.30 ko at Leicester.

Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love & strength

Get well Glenn
