I do feel we need a really world class CB.

 

In years gone by we've had Terry, Gallas, Carvalho.

 

Terry is getting on now though, and as good as Cahill is, he's not on the same level as Gallas or Carvalho were in their prime.

 

It would be nice to have a rock solid defence again.

 

I'm sure come summer time the Varane rumours will resurface again, because of the Jose link./

My thoughts: Gerrard Pique is homegrown. Wouldn't be a terrible signing actually. Gets more stick than he deserves in my opinion. Won't be as exposed at Chelsea I think, won't have to play in a high line, and more importantly, is very good at passing the ball. JT's not bad at that at all, but when we're passing it around the back , it inevitably ends up going back to Courtois. Pique would help in that respect. Having said that, I have no idea why Barcelona would sell him. Might as well just nurture Christensen. Complete CB. 

But if we do sign him, I wouldn't complain. We'll have Miss.Eva Carneiro's long lost sister in Shakira who would be frequenting the Bridge often lol.

You do realise there is a massive shortage of world class CB around don't you? hardly any out there. Varane isn't going to happen, Laporte is looking good at Bilbao though (another good young french prospect).

We're in a difficult situation with regards to replacing JT. There isn't really a ready made replacement available and we have decent prospects already and the club but it would be a massive ask for Zouma, etc. to play consistently at the high level that we would need.

 

Saying that, I thought the same about the Lampard situation and look what happened there. We would be better off sticking with what we have. Can't remember what is happening with his contract. How long does he have left?

We was linked to him about 18 months ago I think, just as he was breaking through into the WBA team.

 

Cracking talent but we can't offer him the first team football he is currently getting and so for now I'd like to see him stay put.
