August 2, 20178 yr Why are so many people interested in the resale value of players when signing them? We should be signing players to keep at the club, not looking at how much we might get for them a few years down the line when another club comes in for them. We ain't Tottenham.

A big part of liking a transfer is now resale value. I also swear this sh*t about 'fee vs fee with addons' was never a thing last year now all of a sudden everyone gets a better or worse looking fee based on this mystical 'add ons'

Like it or not, players are assets and modern football has a business model that is partly supported by player sales...buying a 30 year old Italian winger doesn't make sense to me...and the lack of resale value probably was the telling factor as to why PEA didn't move this window either... If that 30 year old Italian winger helps you win silverware then he pays his transfer fee back with ease. Matic will have no resale value for Utd but if he steadies their midfield and helps them win the league once then hes paid his transfer fee back instantly. We need t sign players that Conte wants and thinks will help us win silverware, not that we can make profit on in a few years.

All that's true but Matic was a proven winner with medals on the table from this league...Candreva has neither and may even block the development of some of our youth talent...I can only offer my opinion and that's a no thanks for the Candreva deal...in fact I'd prefer if we went after the man Inter want to replace him with Keita Balde Diao... August 2, 20178 yr On another front...Barca have given Naymar permission to miss training ahead of a potential £200m transfer to PSG...just wow...

It may not matter to fans, but it's mportant to the club. In fact, any club, apart from City and PSG (that live and operate by their own rules) has to balance books and be careful how they spend their money. We could afford to spend indiscriminately in mid-2000s because there was no FFP and it was owner's money, not the club's. Afterwards we'd be stuck on a regular basis with players that we had no use for but couldn't sell because no club wanted to pay them the kind of wages they were getting at CFC. So Chelsea would loan them out and subsidize their wages. That model was unsustainable and the FFP put an end to any ideas that we can continue to keep working that way. Resale value is important because every new player is an expensive risk, that may or may not work out. For every Hazard there's a Torres. Let's say we buy Candreva. That means we'll have to commit to, let's say, a three year deal plus transfer fee plus whatever his agent will want for his services in brokering it. At 30, in all likelyhood, this is the last big contract Candreva is going to get. What if he fails in the PL? Then we'll be stuck with a player past his prime on high wages coming off a bad season. The chances of unloading him for any reasonable fee would be non-existent, so it's money down the drain.

The chances of unloading him for any reasonable fee would be non-existent, so it's money down the drain. FFP is pretty much none existent anymore since the mega money premier league deals as well as the sponsorship deals. Since 15/16 we have had a transfer net spend of £44.61M, not including deals that are likely to happen such as Diego Costa leaving so our books will be balanced for the three year period Uefa will be reviewing. We then have the £100M from the premier league TV deal, £40M from Nike, £30M from Carabao and whatever other partnerships we have and money for winning the league that we don't even need to touch. If Conte honestly believes a player will strengthen us right away we should be getting these players in and not worrying about money a few years down the line.

He is sh*t! There is a reason why Inter are not selling Perisic to Utd but would rather get rid of him. If it goes tits up at the end of the season for conte, we will be stuck with Candreva. PSG need to get rid of 3/4 players in order to complete the Neymar signing. We should in front of the queue with £70m bids for both Lucas & Aurier.

The 14-year-old is considered one of the brightest talents of the future, and was already appearing for Celtic's U20 side when he was 13. Guess your surname just needs to be Dembele now adays and your are guaranteed to be good. Hope it's true that we're trying to get him, and hope we succeed. Wherever this kid is, he will have made his first team debut before his 18th birthday, and he will be a first team regular before his 20th. This is what genuine world class potential looks like. August 2, 20178 yr Let's see if Celtic get dumped out of Cl tonight. If they do i'd be hoping we can get a deal done for Kieran Tierney to solve our LWB area.

Couldn't do worse. Feruze is a hopeless footballer. Whoever watched him and thought that was a player worth signing deserved a rollicking. I'm not a big fan of Gilmour. Has a lot to do to transition to Chelsea U18 level I think, never mind first team. That said he started pre-season well. I wish him all the best. The lad from Celtic is going to be a mega hot property when he's 16. I imagine all sorts of clubs are inviting his parents to measure up various luxury properties, in various European cities, as we 'speak'. Edited August 2, 20178 yr by OhForAGreavsie
August 2, 20178 yr That lad had the same hype as Feruz, it's almost identical. It's far too early at 14 to say if he will be a hit. At that age Freddy Adu was the face of Adidas and all sorts. its rare these talents actually make it to the top
