July 31, 20178 yr Sigurdsson would cost from 30m upwards, is that really wise for a 4th choice midfielder?

July 31, 20178 yr I'm not sure what to make about drinkwater. Its so uninspiring. We will probably have to pay £35m for him aswell. Not a bad squad player. I really can't see us having a good season though, We no longer seem to be able to compete with our rivals in the transfer market. Its a strange feeling, after us throwing our weight around for a decade. If we aren't going to buy top players, we need to be smarter with developing our own players, and picking up smart signings. Drinkwater isn't really a smart signing for me.
July 31, 20178 yr Drinkwater? Deary me let hope this is rubbish. We really are looking daft if we sold magic and brought this guy in
July 31, 20178 yr Pasalic reported to be going to Spartak Moscow on loan so I think the Drinkwater links hold water
July 31, 20178 yr Shame Chalobah wanted to leave. This really was his best opportunity to show us what he's made of, I'm pretty certain if he hadn't left then we wouldn't be looking into Drinkwater.

Take away dead balls and you're not left with a lot imo. 16 minutes ago, dansubrosa said: Sigurdsson would cost from 30m upwards, is that really wise for a 4th choice midfielder? He's not even a midfielder.
July 31, 20178 yr I can't believe we're looking at a compilation of Danny f*cking Drinkwater... But here it is You can see he's a handy midfielder to have when playing counter attacking football, he's quick to spray the balls forward. His support to Vardy was so good, I imagine he can give Morata or Bats similar kind of support whenever he is needed.
July 31, 20178 yr Even as a backup we should be looking at better. Reeks of panic buying anyone who can fill a HG spot.
July 31, 20178 yr Can't help but feel that people are laughing at the rumour because he's English and from Leicester. If he was the exact same player with a foreign name and playing for Sevilla everybody would be chuffed with having him as an option. Works hard, very good passer and has a cracking shot, we could do a lot worse IMO.
July 31, 20178 yr Hehehe... Looking forward to next signing: Ernie Eatfood. Ake, Chalobah, RLC all could have saved the club 30m if Drinkwater really is a target. Just seen Mahrez having medical. 31m. (?) a bargain in the current market. Shocking. Edited July 31, 20178 yr by Jus4abit
July 31, 20178 yr I'd take on Matuidi in a heartbeat if PSG need to raise some cash, Rabiot as well. Verratti seems to be off the table.

He had a great season when Leicster won the title but that's been about it. He's certainly not at Matics level who we just got rid of and we required an upgrade on that. We currently have 2 fit central midfielders with our new signing missing a full pre season. We require a better standard of player than Drinkwater IMO. We are trying to build on last season and compete in the CL, players like Drinkwater are not the direction I want us going in. Nothing to do with him being English and playing for Leicester
July 31, 20178 yr I'd take Drinkwater just so we can make a Bakayoko joke about Ramadan. Imagine the 3 man midfield: Bakayoko Kante Drinkwater
July 31, 20178 yr The more I think about it the more I kind of like the idea and a bit annoyed at myself for not even thinking of him as a possibile target.
July 31, 20178 yr Mahrez is actually going to go to Roma for £35m?!? I thought for sure there were a number of clubs, us, Arsenal, Spurs just laying low waiting for a fee to be agreed and then matching it, knowing that the fee would be £15m higher if it were an English club striking the deal first. He's an amazing bargain for £35m. Prem proven and comfortable better than either pedro or Willian on the right of a 343 or 433 Edited July 31, 20178 yr by startedwithglenn

I watch a lot of Ligue 1, childhood Lyon fan after all. Matuidi is a headless chicken with a first touch and ball control that makes Cameron Jerome look like Pele. Stay well away. Also: Dany Drinkwater ... did I quantum leap into another dimension where Chelsea are interested in him? Give me Barkley over him frankly.
July 31, 20178 yr Matic fir 6 months was just incredible. Not sure how he just suddenly became a steady/occasionally very good player. He was consistently putting in 8/10 performances and dominating the midfield. I was crazy about the guy. Literally my favourite player he was. Still like him a lot. Would have preferred a move to someone else, but 29 years old, 40+ million is alright I guess. He's going to do well there if he plays. Will add balance to Pogba, Herrera midfield. Luckily they haven't yet bought any good wingers.

July 31, 20178 yr Good engine, good passing range, bit of a terrier, good set-piece delivery. I think people are being blinkered by the fact that he'd admittedly be an underwhelming signing but certainly think he'd be a good addition to the squad we currently have. Above is far from example of a perfect performance but it's a good reflection on him, Was a crunch game too down the title stretch for them Edited July 31, 20178 yr by startedwithglenn
July 31, 20178 yr Danny Drinkwater is a decent player, has PL experience and is English. He also won the PL title alongside Kante. Decent move I'd say if he doesn't mind sitting on the bench.

Fits the CM role better, I think. Oh well. If it's a cheap price, then, maybe not too bad. Edited July 31, 20178 yr by Jus4abit
July 31, 20178 yr Surely Barkley's ceiling is higher? I think we've seen the best of Dany Drinkwater and considering what we'd have to pay, what's the point if he doesn't improve our starting XI?
July 31, 20178 yr If we target Arkadiusz Milik and Danny Drinkwater, we'd be close to making a cup of tea. Edited July 31, 20178 yr by TomCFC85
