June 8, 201610 yr Newcastle 82 away, now that looks a proper mob!! Amazing the numbers in those days if like 84 and 85 there were two specials that went from Kings cross. One of those years the train I was on we were herded like cattle outside Manors disused station, we had to wait for the other train and escorted us to the ground together. It looked a great sight as does the 82 picture.
June 8, 201610 yr I think the earlier images were captioned incorrectly ? where it says "looking north from the Fulham road", I think it's actually looking towards the Fulham road from behind the North stand (Matthew Harding) and the flyover on the left is actually over the railway tracks behind the East stand. If you look at the above photo you can actually see the railway underneath the proposed motorway. Here's the overhead view. Good shout! Makes it laughable that they would allow a flyover 40 years ago but now with Morden design and technology there could be a problem with the new east stand over the railway.
June 8, 201610 yr Monday, February 12 – 1968 Chelsea – Liverpool 3-1 1-0 Tambling (21 min.), 2-0 Baldwin (48 min.), 3-0 Tambling (62 min.
June 9, 201610 yr if like 84 and 85 there were two specials that went from Kings cross. One of those years the train I was on we were herded like cattle outside Manors disused station, we had to wait for the other train and escorted us to the ground together. It looked a great sight as does the 82 picture. We use to go by the Inter city I can remember us getting of at Darlington for a couple of drink and having a little chase around with the locals. When we got to Newcastle the police would be waiting for all the trains coming from London to escort us to the ground because of that we miss out on the famous battle of Strawberry Field Pub which was one of there locals Talking to a few Georges a few years later they couldn't believe the size of our mob they always said that we were the biggest firm from London even in the 2nd Division
June 10, 201610 yr 1964-65 wonder if they will ever go retro with the trainers outfit. Don't think they'll sell many in the mega store!!
June 11, 201610 yr Richard: Some of the retro items that I have seen being marketed. So I would not in all honesty be that surprised...
June 14, 201610 yr I really enjoy looking at the old pictures of The Bridge. Our great stadium. Go to the website "Britain from above" and log in. There are several aerial pictures of the Bridge over the decades. They shot the whole country actually and there are many other old stadiums including a very poor looking Loftus Rd and the whole of the original White City that was built for the 1908 Olympics.
June 18, 201610 yr Don't think they filled two sections of the north stand that day, did they? that`s right...laughable show out
June 18, 201610 yr They had the section which used to be under the demolished North Stand and then the terrace under the scoreboard up to the fence. The only time they brought more was the day they won the League.
June 19, 201610 yr I went to that game with a group of mates from college, one of whom was a Scouser who decided to stand in the Shed with us rather than go in the North Stand with the Dippers. The day before he broke his nose in his only ever game of rugby for the college, and had a massive white plaster cast covering his nose. The Shed was as rammed as I ever experienced it, and the celebrations when we scored our two goals and at the end were fantastic. I can still see my Scouse mate standing looking totally pissed off and alone while everyone around him was going mental. There are crowd shots of the Shed that day posted on this thread, and I always try and pick him out, but haven't spotted his big white nose yet! I must go through the YouTube footage as well!
June 20, 201610 yr At work last week a new colleague on being introduced and finding out I was a Chelsea fan. Said: " Can you imagine Chopper Harris let loose if playing for England at Euro 16 ?" I replied "He would be sent off with his first tackle!" New colleague is a long standing Chelsea fan .
