what if jose actually decides he can get torres back to his lethal best?! i'm only saying this because he has brought over his spainish coaches from real. the way i see it torres went into a goal famine when benetiz left loserfool along with his spainish collegues and when he came to the bridge he probably still felt in that rut until the fsw came along. perhaps a change to spainish coaches might bring him out of his shell! if this does occurr then i will be putting money on torres.

Jose is a quality coach but he's no miracle worker

i bought a car last year for 400 pounds.i reckoned i would have to spend another 200  to get it through the mot,i did and it didn't pass.i got rid of it for 200 and put it down to experience.the same as we should do with torres.

Torres has been unlucky with his injuries, and after moving to Chelsea he wasnt the main man at the club any more and the system didn't really suit him. Was always gonna be hard to live up to that £50 million price tag. A counter attacking team suits him but it looks like he lost his pace as well. Just sell him and cut ur losses.

In terms of style Barca doesn't suit him either but I don't care really.

£17mill is exactly right and a fair price of him.

He is still extremely fit and without niggling recurring injuries. If someone gets his brain right he is a very useful player to have. Not going to happen at Chelsea and don't want to see us try.

I'm just hopeful that the board sees the bigger picture on this one and lets him go in order to save the £9 million he earns from us per year in wages. Just f**king give him away, seriously

But we are going to be counter attacking team next season.

This can turn out good, Jose is great motivator and I can see him getting goals out of Torres.

Don't see that happening at all.

People said the same about Benitez and whilst there was a slight improvement in form the goals still didn't come in the Premiership and he still looked nowhere near capable of delivering consistently as our number one striker.

Mourinho is a great man managr but I also consider him a fan of the tough love and don't see the (seemingly) mentally fragile Torres stepping up and taking on the challenge of having to fight for his place with Lukaku, Schurle, Ba and more likely than not another striker. Not with any success anyway.

It's time. Everyone knows that.

Yeah but Benitez is nowhere near as good as Mourinho is. He worked with Torres before, yes, but he opted for possesion system in Chelsea which is a absolute disaster for Torres, he just doesn't know what to do with the ball when there are 10 or so players in the box, he likes to recieve the ball 30-40 meters from goal, beat a defender or two and score. Just like against Benfica.

Every system is a disaster for Torres, and no we are not going to be a Counter Attacking team under Jose. It has nothing to do with Jose's system but rather how EPL clubs play against us, in order to play counter attacking football you need the other team to actually be attacking you - which doesn't happen very often in the EPL. How many goals has Scorres scored after beating a defender or two after taking the ball 30-40 meters away from goal - he usually loses possession to the first defender he faces.

Come on.

We have tried different managers, different systems, different formations, different players but the one constant is that Torres hasn't delivered.

Did Mourinho get Shevchenko firing on all cylinders? No. He is a very, very good Manager but there is a limit to what he can do.

The thing is, if we continue to play possesion football like we did play under Rafa, fat Ronaldo himself wouldn't score 25+ goals in the season, simply because majority of goals in that system are coming from the midfield. So the stories about us being one world class striker shy of Premiership are bs.

Of course we are gonna be a counter attacking team, and of course on-paper weaker teams are attacking you, get your facts straight before you come up with something like that again.

That's different, Serie A is way slower and Schevchenko had way more time on the ball while in Milan. Torres proved himself in EPL, in Liverpool's counter attacking system he scored 20+ goals every season, what, did he magically lost all of his skills?

We don't have a choice regarding the matter, lesser teams don't out possess us in the EPL because they are unable to do it. Most teams that play against us do so with a deep defensive line - the only club in the EPL that plays against us with a high defensive line in Tottenham.  :face_palm:

We are a competent striker away from challenging in the Premiership, Torres has 15 goals in 82 matches in the EPL - if we had played a better striker than him in the past season we would have been challenging for the title. He doesn't scare anyone in the EPL, Championship level defenders are able to outwit and outpace him.

True, the circumstances are of course different but I was just trying to illustrate that Mourinho can't do the impossible- he couldn't get Shevchenko firing and I do not believe he will get Torres 'back to his best' either. The suggestion is amusing to me.

Where have you been for the last 3 years? Do you not think Torres has lost his pace? Do you think he still has the ability to take a touch and put the after burners on and beat a defender for fun? Seriously he makes the most cumbersome defenders in the Premiership look agile.

He is 29 years old now, he is not the same player as he was at Liverpool- mentaly or physically- it's not even up for debate any more.

Sheva was different too as when he came he wasn't at his peak, whereas Torres was meant to be in his prime years.

Agreed. Torres is now 29 and certainly not in his peak either so the comparison is valid with regards to what condition they would both be in when Jose takes charge.

Torres: Mourinho will get best out of me

Chelsea transfer news: Fernando Torres wants to stay and improve under Jose Mourinho

Fernando Torres will inform Jose Mourinho of his intention to stay at Stamford Bridge, and believes the Chelsea manager will be able to summon his best form when they begin working together.

The future of Torres as a Chelsea player remains uncertain following the appointment of Mourinho, and the former Real Madrid boss is set to speak each member of his squad when he officially begins duties next month.

Chelsea have been linked with a summer transfer move for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, and the Blues are reported to have offered Torres plus £34 million in the hope of claiming the signature of the Uruguay international.

Torres, however, is committed to Chelsea and is hopeful he can establish himself as the club's first-choice striker - with the Spain international believing Mourinho is the perfect coach to restore him to former glories.

"He will explain to me what he thinks and I will tell him what I feel," Torres told AS.

"I want to stay, to honour the contract I signed, keep doing things right and I want to be the number one in my position again.

"Moreover, I think there is no better place than Chelsea to do that, especially with the arrival of Mourinho. I just think that every striker that has played with him has enjoyed success."

Torres has scored only 15 Premier League goals for Chelsea since his British record transfer from Liverpool in January 2011, although the Spaniard did show glimpses of his Anfield form last season.

The 29-year-old netted 22 times in all competitions - eight of which came in the Europa League as Chelsea claimed glory.

Like I said, quote, if we continue to play possesion football like we did play under Rafa, unquote, which means 4-2-3-1 with three attacking midfielders passing ball inbetween them forever and trying to walk into the net, even fat Ronaldo himself wouldn't score 25+ goals in the season.

Btw, Messi is not true 9, haven't watched Cryuff, Aguero scored less goals than Torres did last season, Henry and RvP rarely played in 4-2-3-1 and when they did, it was fast ball exchange / counter attacking 4-2-3-1 (something like what we played under RdM and when Torres really hit the form), but 99% of the games Henry played in 4-5-1 as a lone striker and in Manchester RvP plays in 4-4-2.

And Suarez is just a retarded c**t who takes 20+ shots every game and gets lucky, he is not even worth mentioning on this forum. Suarez? Liverpool? Possesion football? Yeah, maybe while they're in their own half.

We certainly weren't playing possession Football under Benitez.

That's just rubbish platitudes. If a team as big as Barca came in for him he would be gasping to go.

Also, those quotes might be recycled from a week ago, before this story even emerged. BELIEVE PEOPLE.
