Not meant as a dig but he was never the best striker in the world.  That's scouse revisionist nonsense.  I don't think he ever even won the league's golden boot.

Disagree he was right up there,Vidic couldn't handle him, we struggled against him numerous times. Was excellent in the champions league, formed a great partnership with Gerrard that nearly won them the league.Scored the winning goal in the European championship final against Germany aswell.

Forgot to add that he was the quickest to reach 50 league goals for Liverpool aswell, pretty impressive given there history of CF's.

Reading this thread gives you a feeling Torres is playing for one of the rivals. I don't remember the last time a player on our squad was this 'bad' and guilty of so many things, and we've had far worse.

Not the best as he's frequently touted.  Adebayor matched his league tally in 2008 and I don't consider him the best in the world either.  If Torres had maintained his form for longer than that initial spell at Liverpool then I'd put him up there.  He wasn't even that prolific at Atletico, falling WAY short of Eto'o, Villa, Milito, RVN etc.  He had one great season and a few good ones and unfortunately a number of dire ones.  Aside from the 2008 season he frequently fell short of Drogba, Rooney, Tevez, even Defoe and Bent on one occasion.

Yeah he was really good but then he got injuries and defenders figured out his movements. The partnership with Gerrard was also good and they NEARLY won the league, but Lampard and Drogba showed in the 2009/2010 season that they're better.

Not really when you take into account the number of games played.

2007-2010 (his 3 full seasons at Liverpool) is  the period I would consider him one of the best strikers in the world and certainlty the Premiership. In these three seasons  when you consider the games played and the subsequent goal returns he is by far the most prolific striker.

Torres: Played 116, scored 72,  averages a goal every 1.61 games

Drogba: Played 118, scored 66,  averages a goal every 1.78 games

Rooney: Played 135, scored 72, averages a goal every 1.87 games

Tevez: Played 141, scored 63, averages a goal every 2.24 games

Defoe: Played 120, scored 53, averages a goal every 2.26 games

Bent: Played 119, scored 50, averages a goal every 2.38 games

He also finished third in both 2008 FIFA world player of the year and 2008 Ballon d'Or, just behind Messi and Ronaldo, who aren't true striker. He was the beast, raped Vidic two or three times, raped us numerous times... he was the best, you like it or not.

He could of maintained it if it wasn't for injuries, The things you say about Torres could be said for Drogba with us too.He had two great seasons in terms of goalscoring in the league some good ones and some dire ones. But i would of still put Drogba as one of the best CF in the world on his day. His goalscoring record isn't bad considering where Ath Madrid were finishing in the league.

and Hernandez.

Seems we can mark the likes of Bale, Suarez, Aguero and RVP out of games, but it's the other strikers that get us.

er..lol?

Bale has scored against us.

Suarez has scored against us.

RVP has scored millions against us.

Can't remember about Aguero.

But also Bale has had alot of quiet games against us to,same with RVP.Tevez and Hernandez score against us pretty much every time we play against them. But i disagreed with him on Suarez he regularly causes us problems the only game we kept him quiet was the FA cup final.

Bale: 1 goal in 8 games against us

RVP: 6 goals in 18 games against us, and considering we didn't seem to have any defensive strategy under AVB I wouldn't include the hattrick he scored against us last year, making it 3 goals in 17 games against us.

Was wrong about Suarez, but then again 1 of his goals was after the game should have ended, and the other was when he fouled Ramires, so he can f**k off.

If you only measure a forward by goals scored then you have a small point. However, if you take the sensible view and measure them on their all-round game, their ability to consistently produce on the highest stages against the best defenders, their ability to win games almost single-handedly, their physical qualities and, crucially, their mental strength, then Torres wasn't ever on the same level as Drogba. In fact he wasn't even on the same planet.

Carrollol was just sold to West Ham for £15.5m + £2m "Add-ons", considering they also probably paid some fee to take him on loan and are ready to pay 100k p/w for the Donkey - Liverpool only lost around £15m on the deal.

its such a paradox that hes sold at a loss but gets higher wages

He was probably on around 25-30k when he was at Newcastle - so it was a substantial increase

Besides West Ham is still a move downwards for Carrollol - so he needed Fat Sam to sweeten the deal

I hope West Ham go belly up paying that jokers contract out.

He's pretty adamant he's staying at Chelsea. There was yet another article on SSN today where he stated he's ready for talks with Jose and is excited to hear his plans for him next season.

I'd be excited too if I was pampered for over two years by 4 different managers and picked without any merit, while getting paid a huge amount and all his competitors either being loaned out or sold

btw how shocking is it that theres more talk of luiz and mata leaving than torres leaving

I don't know where the idea of Mata leaving even came from, why on earth would we sell him? I can understand why Jose is apprehensive about keeping Luiz, because he isn't exactly a solid defender. But there's no doubt he gives his all when he pulls on the shirt and I'd miss his cracking free kicks and the way he can boss the midfield. I think the interim got him playing to his strengths, like it or not.

There's plenty of talk of Torres leaving and Mourinho has given out strong hints himself but Torres is very quick to shoot them down regularly by insisting he's going nowhere.

i think the rumour is 100% bullsht but its still making me uneasy
