Well, he was really good today, nobody can argue about that. I don't care about missed chances, he's now looking to get on the end of things, for the first time in his career. Jose deserves a lot of credit.

Edit: Ahem, his Chelsea career that is.

Jose deserves massive credit, in the past Torres would have disappeared after that miss!

There's an enormous humble pie waiting for me at the end of the season if Fernando keeps this up. Great performance yet again today, I'm sincerely hoping that Torres can keep this going and it won't be another false down. Here's hoping!

That goal was justice.

Had he not scored, the match would be remembered for that one miss, not for his assist or a great performance otherwise.

Great to see the Bridge show appreciation in the end.

Hope he keeps up the pace.

Fernando was great today, no doubt, one of his best games for us.Hopefully, it's a beginning of some sort of consistency of quality performances for him. We had a few false dawns in the past, so I'll wait in hope.

Also, am I the only one who noticed that he's got at l least some of his pace back? He got stronger and he isn't pushed off the ball as easily as so many times in the past and he ( can't believe I'm seeing it) is actually going past players. This is Torres I haven't seen since his Liverpool days. How long it'll last remains to be seen.

I was once again very impressed with him today. He got a deserved start and Jose was right to keep him on. He should have doubled our lead with that stunning smash against the bar so it was only right he got that goal at the end. It was gifted to him by Hart but who cares, a goal is a goal. Hopefully he can build on from here. Still not quite the Liverpool Torres but slowly but surely we are seeing glimpses. Well done to him today.

I'm so pleased for him, it got to the point where even I gave up on him being anywhere near his old Liverpool form, I've always backed him but hope was lost and out of nowhere he comes out with consistently very good performances. Keep it up 'nando.

He needs to take some more shots. That one he had of the crossbar was a beauty. He has a great leg on him no idea why he isnt using it more

Lack of confidence. Hopefully he will be using it more this season.

This whole liverpool torres thing is doing my nut in now! Everytime the lad is interviewed he keeps getting asked if he is finally back to his liverpool self. What did he do at liverpool that he didn't do today? He scored goals at liverpool ( he scored today) He missed chances at liverpool ( he missed a chance today) He ran at players and beat them at liverpool ( believe it or not he ran at players and beat them today. The only thing that was missing was he had blue shirt on and not a poxy red one.

I think there is a vast difference in the way he played in a red shirt to the way he has played for us. My dad is a Liverpool supporter so more often than not I sat there and watched Liverpool games with him if there was nothing else on. Back then I craved Abramovich to sign Torres cos I just thought he was the best in the world. The way he took the p**s out of defenders, scored with his back to the goal, scored 40 yard curlers, scored when he had absolutely no right on Earth to score. He terrified defences and looked completely formidable to play against. If you saw his name on the teamsheet you knew it was going to be a rough ride. How many goals did he score against us for Liverpool? And looked pretty s**t hot doing it, unfortunately.

His performances lately I have definitely seen glimpses of that form, but I'm only pointing out that he definitely isn't 100% back to the Torres of 2007-2009 Liverpool. That Torres was expected to score every time he touched the ball, and more often than not did.

I have every faith in him, though. He's pushing 30 so isn't the same youthful striker he was back then but I know he has it in him to be fantastic again. He is already nearly there.

On sky after the game Niall Quinn when asked how would we know if Torres was back to his best he stated " when at his best at Liverpool he scored 2 or 3 goals every game " lol what a clown.!

Shall we get a mod to delete this thread?

Think it's disrespectful to keep it up. We should be 100% behind Torres. He's been great so far this season.

Torres has never scored 40 yard screamers on a regular basis! His performances lately have been pretty much how he was in a liverpool shirt. The thing at liverpool was he used to do it on a consistent basis. That's the test for torres now. He has been brilliant in the last few games and he is going to get a good run in the side now so can he produce the goals he used to along with the performances? Let's find out

So now he is doing well and getting praised we delete the thread?  Just because there is a thread to discuss him it doesn't mean everyone isn't 100% behind him

Threads aren't deleted.  They are locked if a mod feels they serve no more useful purpose, but they are always open to be read.

P.S. Damn - I should have copied the post I was replying to.  Someone was asking for this thread to be deleted.

Yes, I find this thread interesting to look through just to see how quickly people's opinions have changed since he started actually remembering he's a striker. There are people who have always been behind him and hoped he'd eventually get back to his best, even though they have been aware how poor he's been in the past, and there are people who have slated him at every opportunity and called him for everything, who are now kissing his backside cos he's playing like the old Torres. Should he go back to playing mediocre, however, I'd be very interested to see how this thread takes another turn.

So I say, keep it. For the entertainment value.

can't remember who told me that my believe in JM can get el nido doing the business was wishful thinking and that my putting money on him at 66/1 to be top epl scorer was a waste of time but i can see a handsome return on it! c'mon nando!

It's a myth that Torres didn't miss chances at Lpool, he missed quite a lot in my opinion (at least compared to the true poachers). However, his strength, apart from being a one man attack with mind blowing pace, was that he never dwelled on missed opportunities, and that's the most positive thing (apart from the fact that he's been MOTM in his last three starts and unplayable at times) I can read out of his game today.

I also liked that fact that Torres the last two games has stood up, fought for the shirt and lead the team. There was a moment where he went down to Cole on extra time giving the best left back the last 15 years instructions on how we should waste time more efficient, and he did the same thing versus Schalke. Likey likey. Now it's up to Mourinho to use him wisely, and Torres himself to prove that he can stay consistent.
