Clean sheet record coming up...

Featured Replies

Seems to have gone largely unnoticed but Petr Chec is 1 clean sheet away from equalling David Seamans record of clean sheets for a single premier league club, (137) in probably half the time, he's already the quickest keeper ever to 100 clean sheets and holds the record for most clean sheets in a season.

I always say shmichel is the best keeper I ever saw but for the stats lovers Chec is going down as the best in prem history...

And by the way, I don't think he gets half the global recognition he deserves. If he played for united the commentaters would be wetting them selves to daclare him the greatest of all time..

Cech is one of the best keepers ever in the Prem!! He won us the CL as well.

Thanks for the heads-up Barak!

This will be brushed off by the media again so we should be loud about it.

Too true, Cech is horribly underrated in comparison to Schmeichel, and as you said it's because he doesn't play for United.

Funnily enough a lot of United fans, and the media, have forgotten that Schmeichel was accused of racism by Ian Wright in the mid 90s and there were lip readers that affirmed that he'd made the remark (the only evidence deemed necessary by the FA in the JT case). If that happened in this day and age, his reputation would be dragged through the dirt (or maybe not, as he plays for United), and he'd never be looked at the same.

David James holds the record for most overall top flight clean sheets with 173, which means Petr is only 36 behind him. If he can keep Courtois out for another 2 seasons he should be able to get that easily.

The only statistic that really holds in favour of Schmeichel over Cech is that he won 5 EPL's to Cech's 3, hopefully he can pick up another 2 before his time is over and that should make it unanimous.

I think he's helped by the fact that he's (usually) had a fantastic defence in front of him. A clean sheet isn't just the keeper's work so I don't think number of clean sheets directly represents a keeper's quality.

He's a fantastic keeper, but the head injury did set him back. Without it I think he may well have surpassed Schmeichel

Should hopefully get it sooner rather than later given the current improvement in our defence. Agree with whoever said it would be brushed under the carpet though.

No, but the number of times he's won us three points by pulling off some great or even wonder saves does represent his quality.

I remember when he broke the record for longest clean sheet. He was like a few minutes from it when the other team got a penalty and he saved it. I screamed as if he'd just won us the CL.

Cech has won more FA cups and League cups than Schmeichel.

Not only is Petr one of the two best keepers the prem has ever seen he's also a damn fine chap....

He's still got a few good years left too, i reckon when he finishes he'll hold just about every 'keepers' record there is.

Such a fantastic keeper, and an absolute bargain at £7m. Weve been pretty lucky with our keepers over the past 10 years or so, since the dutch porn star (though he was prone to a few balls ups.......fnar fnar) through carlo then cech. Hopefully courtois can continue this on.

If Cech played for United this wouldn't even be up for discussion - and Ferguson wanted him back in the day. No matter. He's a legend and the finest keeper to grace this league. He knows it. His fans know it. He knows we know it.

Yeah, but do you know that we know that he knows we know it?

With regards to the defence in front of him, you could make the same argument for any of the keepers that have played from top teams,Seaman played behind what is considered some of the best defences with adams, bold, campbell, keown.

Shmichel didn't win the league 5 times playing behind bad defenders either...

It makes chec's acomplishments even more impresive when you think about that injury

We've been truly blessed to have this man between the goals.

7 million, bargain considering what he's given us.

But however much I love him, I desperately want Courtois to usurp the throne.

Cech is only 30 years old and still has the ability to make incredible saves look fairly easy.

Good GKs often last to near 40 years old which begs the question, what do you do with Courtois?

Moving Cech on just to bring in a younger keeper makes no sense to me when you have a keeper who is currently the best in the EPL.

We either have to sell Courtois or continue to loan him out year after year.

Why? Cech is still the best, why does Courtois deserve to unseat him?

Sooooo true!

Cech is a God!!

How he did not make the FIFA team after his heroics in the CL Final, is a scandal.
