Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

Never liked him and he clearly doesn't want to fight for a place and would rather play lots for Everton.

Torres on the other hand despite all the SH*T he gets is actually pushing hard to improve himself and the team.

I don't care what 90% of people think on here I'm personally quite chuffed that it's Lukaku going and not Torres.

Fair enough lads, suppose I didn't realise how disappointed some Chelsea fans would be about him leaving. Thought he'd be no more than a squad player anyway with your spending power. Still shocked we've just about blown what money we had but days like this don't come along often for us, it's usually soil ya pants time in the transfer window worrying about who's being sold. (Still a while to go though)!!!!! Always had a soft spot for chelsea, obviously the colours but also "one man went to mow" for an hour none stop at a mid-week league cup game at Goodison in the 80's,

Some people don't seem to have woken up to the reality of ffp and the clubs need to sell to buy these days...with no takers for Torres and Lukaku not wanting to fight for a place (he admitted tonight he wanted to join Everton permanently since end of last season - before Costa and drogba turned up), it makes sense to let go of the latter...especially at 28m...there is a month before the window shuts and I wouldn't be surprised if another big signing is lined up...certainly don't understand the gloom and doom from some

I think it's less doom and gloom, although we are worried and rightly so about our current strike force providing enough goals next season, and more of sadness, or at least not completely understanding the whole situation, about how Lukaku's Chelsea career panned out and ended.

I never even thought about the ffp, always thought it was just about only spending what you could generate in club revenue but it's something we've not had to worry about. So where do you see yourselves finishing this year? I still think you're the favourites for the league, could have and should have won it last year and was surprised when Jose played it down so much towards the end but think he's got the team he wants now. I'd be happy with 5th again this year but can see utd coming back stronger this year so fingers crossed.

The three to leave will imo most realistically be Marin, Mikel and Cech. Cech will want to stay and fight, it's in his nature but don't see the need for 3 top keepers. Schwarzer and Courtois is enough.

You sound like a bleddin accountant or worse an Arsenal fan boasting about his balance sheet.

Cheers for that, mate.  IN actuality what I am doing is commenting on the fact that our club is operating as it should be and well within the realms of FFP.  If we sign another striker this window, and it looks like we could do given my "accounting," that is happy to come and play for the team, then I think it is a good window.  Do you not?

I know people can get testy when a favourite of theirs leaves, look at when Mata left.  However, I'm a supporter of the team, not just one player; therefore, I am happy with the way we've conducted ourselves.  Lukaku, rightly or wrongly, was wanting assurances that the club were never going to give him.  So, rather than keep him around and have him possibly sulk for a season disrupting the dressing room, I think we've acted well.

So please, less of the name calling and childish insults.

Thanks

Disappointing, unless he really was being a total prat we should have just kept him.

From the cut of Jose's jib that was exactly what the problem was.

Least we didn't sell him to Liverpool, that would have been absolutely infuriating.

I can't be happy with this....it's a good fee, absolutely, but I do think he will eventually reach his potential, and move to a club where we will be reminded again and again that he should have been here.

Jose's take on Lukaku

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Romelu Lukaku's attitude was the reason he let the striker move to Everton.

The Belgium international completed a £28m transfer to the Toffees on Wednesday, the club he spent last season on loan at, but not before Mourinho offered his take on the situation.

“The thinking behind the move was the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us, in his mentality, in his approach, he was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea,” said Mourinho.

“He wanted to play for Chelsea but he wanted to be clearly the first choice striker, which in a club of our dimension, it is very difficult to promise to a player.

“That reduced immediately his desire to come to us. Everton came in with an important offer. It is the reality of our club that we want to do things really well and to always be inside the rules (of the Financial Fair Play regulations).

“Financial Fair Play is always behind the thoughts of the Chelsea board and when you have the chance to create a positive impact in Financial Fair Play, Chelsea always analyse these situations.”

Mourinho was also keen to emphasise he has nothing against Lukaku and wished him well on his permanent move to Goodison Park for a club-record fee for Roberto Martinez’s side.

“The important thing is he is happy and things work out for him. He is a good kid,” added Mourinho.

“The only thing we can do is wish him well.”

Not sure how Lukaku thought he'd be automatic first choice ahead of Diego Costa. Well done to management for getting 28 MP from the deal.

There's 2 sides to every story and if managed properly I'm sure a 21 year old could have been giving enough encouragement to stay ... There's nowt wrong with ambition and confidence IMO ... Lukaku is certainly justified in claiming the back-up spot ahead of a 36 year old DD and Torres ... and he should have been told just that tbh ... he clearly wasn't and had enough ... and I for one don't blame him ...

I have to agree. I'd wager if there were a 21 year old striker with his goalscoring record in the Prem owned by someone like Everton or Southampton, that we would have bought him instead of Costa and made him our first choice.

I have no doubt if he's an Everton player, we would be interested in, but no way we would make him undisputed first choice ( with zero CL experience and only 2 good years in the league).  H wants to be the biggest fish in a small pond, good for him. 2 or 3 years down the track he will have a new priority, and wouldn't surprise me he demands a move to a bigger club to fulfil his ambition. We will sign him back for 50M when he's 25, and he won't be complaining sitting on the bench once in a while because he's fighting for a trophy, and eating loads of money.

You're right, he is justified in claiming back up spot ahead of Drogba and Torres. But the thing is, he didn't want to come back as a number 2, he wanted to come back as number 1, Mourinho said so himself. I agree that there is nothing wrong with ambition and confidence, but i don't think that is what we are seeing from Lukaku, i think it is more arrogance than anything else. He thinks he should just come in as the number 1 striker right now, even though he clearly isn't a good enough all round footballer yet and hasn't proven anything at Chelsea or at the highest level. It's a lot different playing for Everton than it is for Chelsea. Teams won't set up to in the same way against us as they do against Everton.

I think Lukaku has been unreasonable in his demands. He shouldn't just expect to be the number 1 striker yet when he has so much to prove. And i honestly don't think Drogba would have re-signed this season if Lukaku was going to stay. So his competition for number 2 striker would only have been Torres, and with the way Torres plays i think it's obvious that Lukaku would have got plenty of time to prove himself with us this season.

For me, Lukaku lacked the fight and patience. Look at Courtois, he is facing an even bigger competition than Lukaku is facing. He has to remove quite possibly the greatest keeper the Premier League has ever seen, who is still at the top of his game, now that is showing fight and patience.

That is more than the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Mata and Matic had when they walked into the first team.

We average 60 games a season. Even splitting them equally between the three of them, combined with sub apperarances would have have him equal his games for Everton last year. Add that to the very real prospect of Torres failing AGAIN, I cant help but feel he's been short sighted on this one.

Fair play to the club for getting so much money for him, Im actually amazed at how much weve managed to change the squad since Mourinho came back without spending that much. I think our Net spend over the last year (13/14 and 14/15) is like £42 million whilst having to replace Lampard and Cole and I cant see our wage bill having increased exponentially. I think weve sold £150+ million worth of players and not a single one was Mourinhos first choice, there aint many clubs in the world which could come close to that (if any).

Bit worried about our Strikeforce but I cant see it changing unless Athletico follow up on their interest in Torres (Pray with me) Im not going to name any strikers I would like to see coming but for all those saying Remy... The Dippers rejected signing him, for a pre agreed £8 million, need I say more?

KTBFFH

To all Lukaku fans: if you think we missed out on a young world class talent, how come no top club was interested in him? I've read rumors of Wolfsburg making inquiries and being scared away by the fee CFC were demanding. That's it. The whole world has watched him for the last few years and yet only Everton made a bid. Why?

He also kept talking about his ambitions of playing in the CL. What happened to that? If he was determined to play at the top level, he should have kept his mouth shut and should have worked hard on getting opportunities at Chelsea. Instead, time after time, he was demanding a first choice status and was forcing loan situations, when those guarantees weren't given.

Lukaku is happy to move to Everton because he'll be a starter there, it's as simple as that. Jose doesn't believe he's good enough to be our first choice striker and Romelu doesn't want to be anything but, and isn't willing to earn  it. What's there left to do? 28m is a good fee, I just hope we use it in a bid to bring in a genuine quality to bolster our attacking options.

The business of nurturing young talent.

Michael Emenalo, Chelsea’s unheralded technical director, might be permitted a self-satisfied smile. There may even be an appreciative email from Roman Abramovich. After all, more than anyone else, the Nigerian can take credit for the tidy profit the club made on Romelu Lukaku.

The figures are impressive. Three years ago, Chelsea bought the Belgian teenager for a flat fee of £11 million. He played for Chelsea only ten times in the league. They sold him to Everton for a fee that could rise as high as £28 million. That is £17 million — minus his wages (or a portion of them) for three years — in Chelsea’s pocket. A good bit of business indeed.

It is fitting that Lukaku was sold on the day that Chelsea met Vitesse Arnhem in a friendly. The Dutch side spent last season packed with players who are on what might be called the Lukaku path, youngsters bought by Chelsea and farmed out on loan, in this case to a club with whom they have a strategic partnership and an interwoven ownership.

Like Lukaku, though, they may never play for the club’s senior team. Instead, they have been bought to be fattened up and sold. Chelsea are, essentially, running a recruitment and development programme unrelated to their first team.

The reasoning is simple — expenditure on youth investment is exempt from Financial Fair Play, but income from player sales serves to increase their spending limit — and they are not alone in doing it: all their rivals in the Barclays Premier League’s upper echelons are playing the same game.

It is hardly amoral; the players are benefiting, too, from high-calibre coaching, but the example of Lukaku is nonetheless a sobering one. The clubs will turn you into a player, but probably not for them. Youth development is a business now.
