October 6, 201312 yr Then we could have just let Eto'o go to inter and willian to spurs. Its a ridiculous conspiracy theory to believe. Cause he's the FSW and there aren't many interims left. last line is irrelevant. Whilst sturridge scored more "league" goals torres' goals got us a european trophy. Both those theories are better aimed at teenagers than a football club. It isn't a conspiracy theory more just an observation. It doesn't look good. The Short term success this club has demanded has put us in a position where we are currently paying £175k a week for a striker who has scored an average of 5 league goals a season since his move. A 32 year old striker who has to adapt to a new league after 2 seasons playing at championship level.. And doing it badly. And Djemba Ba who aside from a season and a half at Newcastle has never been prolific and doesn't seem to be anywhere near being chosen by Jose. I would swap our European B Cup and 3 has been strikers for a promising strike force who will lead us for the next 5-8 years well imbedded and scoring.
October 6, 201312 yr I think personally this shows the difference in experience between RDM and Jose. Make no mistake I love Robbie, both for everything he did for as a player, being the perfect pro and also for giving us *that* moment. However, the way Jose is treating Lukaku is chalk and cheese to the way Robbie treated Sturridge. Sturridge needed time as does Lukaku, he also needed to know he had a future at Chelsea and would be the next centre forward to carry us on to a new bright future. Let's get this right Eto'o was only signed as a stop gap, not getting Rooney was one thing but giving Lukaku game time and learning the game in the Premiership was the key. Sturridge was not playing as a centre forward here, he need another period on loan, it is proving a huge mistake selling him to Liverpool. That same mistake will not happen under Jose. Lukaku next season, if he continues to improve the way he has done, will be our main striker. I'd bet my bottom dollar, every manager in the world will want Lukaku in two years time. He will have the number 9 shirt at the Bridge for sure.
October 6, 201312 yr Not really much to disagree on. It's bro science. Pretty much the excuse you get from skinny nerds saying "I don't want to lift because it will make me slow and lethargic". It's friggin ridiculous. As someone whos been weightlifting for ages now i certainly wouldnt classify myself as a skinny nerd. I was also an amateur boxer through my teen years. I dont really care if you consider me a broscientist or not, i know from my own extensive experience how muscle mass affects ones stamina
October 6, 201312 yr Doing a full 90 with a lot of muscle mass will be harder than someome with less mass though, won't it? Theres no science here, that's just fact. Edited October 6, 201312 yr by Zola
October 6, 201312 yr Anzhi's owner decided to cut the costs of the club, Chelsea offered to take the world highest paid player off his hands and give £32 million for a player we didn't need. Let's just say I don't think Chelsea's best long term interests were at the forefront of those decisions. My opinion though FSW wasn't just bought in for that but tell me why he ostracised Sturridge, who was playing regularly under Robbie, albeit in the wrong position, persevering with Torres who hasn't been exactly prolific since 2009. Sturridge has gone on to score more league goals since January than Torres has scored in three seasons for us. Well thats just wrong.
October 6, 201312 yr Sturridge had a mystery injury under Rafa - the board probably didn't want him to play because mid December the deal with Liverpool was already agreed. RdM shafted Sturridge out of the side, dropped him from the wing and played Kalou/Malouda/Ramires as defensive wingers. Than had him for 14 matches at the start of the year in the squad but only started him up top when Torres was banned against United in the Piss Cup. I don't know if it was RdM's decision to play Torres every match or there was pressure to do so after Torres was left as first choice with Anelka/Drogba/Lukaku all moved on or loaned. Around WBA I think RdM realized he had left his best striker on the bench but Sturridge got injured right before the Juve clash. Jose was pretty much using Lukaku the same way RdM used Sturridge - 10 odd minutes at the end of matches and loaned him out. We shall see what happens but if we sign a big name striker in January/Summer Lukaku's future will also be in doubt. Edited October 6, 201312 yr by Las7
October 6, 201312 yr My mistake. The source of my information was rather sceptical. My apologies. I've read a bit more on it now. Edited October 6, 201312 yr by JoeyN
October 6, 201312 yr Well thats just wrong. Looking back he didn't play too much under Robbie. Who knew. But it certainly felt like he had more of a chance. Never the less the point of him not being given a chance still stands I'm praying on Lukaku's love of the Club is the major benefit we have on our side. The boy is mustard.
October 6, 201312 yr once sturridge was left out (again) in favour of mis-firing torres, he'd had enough and wanted to leave...I think the many fans who booed him at matches for having shots didn't help either...he had less than two years left on his contract and wasn't going to sign a new one so club had no choice, they couldn't loan him out again as they'd lose money... the mistake was not selling him at the time, it was not playing him more before that when he had shown more than enough potential to warrant a start up front, thus earning his loyalty...think he only had one start up front as a striker in the league and that was at Blackburn... so far lukaku has started only once in the league for us and will have only two years left on his contract after this season...let's hope history is not repeating itself Edited October 6, 201312 yr by The Brit
October 7, 201312 yr One thing that disturbs my thought is that we are using Ba as a target striker to hold the ball, If we want to have a physical presence, Lukaku will be a better choice plus he can score better. Having said that, it is evident that Lukaku performed badly in the second half. after doing well in 1st half in recent Everton games. He also committed reckless back passes quite a many and at least two of them allowed opponents to score a goal.

He also committed reckless back passes quite a many and at least two of them allowed opponents to score a goal. It certainly is an interesting point. Personally, I found it quite satisfying to see the ball lumped forward for a change, nice control from Ba and a simple tap to Oscar. Sometimes doing it 'the ugly way' is the most effective. That goal came from 3 moves, simple and effective. We scored so many with Drog in this way. I thought Ba played his heart out yesterday and for me has earned a start in the next league game.
October 8, 201312 yr According to some Belgium nationals he did an interview where he stated it was not his idea to go on loan. I can understand Lukaku making a statement to get himself in Jose's good books or perhaps our PR Department/Jose giving him a call to do some PR so we are not asked too many times why we let him go. Make of that what you will, but I don't think a 20 year old striker can really decide what to do unless the Manager has already told him he is not in his imidiate plans. Secondly I think Lukaku has the rigtht mentality and would have stayed and fought for a place here if he knew he had a level playing field. We had him on the bench at the start of the season and he was our in form striker but Jose doesn't fancy him just yet. Sadly if we end up signing a big name striker in the next 12 months I don't think we would see him in a Chelsea Shirt after next year's World Cup, I hope he does so well that he is guaranteede a first team place next season by Jose himself. Here is quote from the interview - translated loosly: "I didn't ask for the loan, Mourinho decided it so I have to do it. This has been going on for 2 years but well.. That's life. The only thing I can do is play well and score goals to prove myself. I want to disprove that I'm not good enough for Chelsea, I want to finish higher then Chelsea with Everton and score more goals than the Chelsea strikers. In the end off the season we'll see who made the right choice." Now either Belgium newspapers are about as bad as English tabloids and make up quotes and entire interviews or Lukaku thought that no one would bother looking at his Belgium interviews or our PR team had not briefed him what to say. October 8, 201312 yr Well I think Jose was nuts to put him as 4th choice and take Eto instead. And I don't give a rat's arse about his defensive skills or lack of them. Its a waste of 15 m quid just sto start with. I don't see how he would have done any worse than Ba (who had three cnances at Norwich and took none) Ba did next to know defensive work either. And so what if he gets tired in H2. The guys marking him will also be tired by the phyiscal challenges of keeping a big guy under control. Sub Lukaku off after 55 and give a smaller guy a go. As he is now playing every week as compared to our three strikers who play only every 3rd week in the premier ship Lukaku is probably more match fit than any of them. October 8, 201312 yr I'm sure it's a Jose decision and it might prove a costly one but what can you do it's how things work at Chelsea. New manager arrives; needs time to evaluate the fact that our senior strikers are not up for it; finally works it out - is promptly sacked around the same time. Jose needs one of our strikers to starts scoring in the EPL to take some pressure off this decision. I maintain it's a good loan for Lukaku but a bad one for the club.
October 8, 201312 yr ...if we don't bring him back next season as striker nr1, we better play with no strikers at all Torres + Ba + Eto'o = 7 games 0 goals Kraken = 3 games 4 goals "simple comme bonjour" bring Sturridge (45min) & Lukaku (45min) back = 10 games 10 goals
October 9, 201312 yr With Lukaku's latest "I hope Everton finish above Chelsea", I cant help but feel he's been hurt immensely by this loan caper and could be beginning to resent Chelsea FC. I know he said he hopes Jose is there for a long time etc, but the longer he isn't shown any sort of love or appreciation, the higher the risk of him never featuring for us again. I think this quote from Jose is massively unnecessary "It's one thing to play for Everton, another to play for Chelsea" Edited October 9, 201312 yr by Zola

I think this quote from Jose is massively unnecessary "It's one thing to play for Everton, another to play for Chelsea" He's got a point though, the space and time forwards will get against opposition defenses is very different. Just read the Lukaku quotes: “The only thing I can do is play well and score a lot and then I think people will say that I’m a good player. “I want to score more goals than all the strikers currently at Chelsea. We will see at the end of the season who made the best choice." Sounds to me like he is a little upset about going on loan again which is understandable and possibly Jose or whoever raised concerns with him about his ability to score goals playing for us with maybe Eto'o seen as someone who would be more of a "sure thing" to score. At the moment the decision to let Lukaku go on loan in favour of bringing in Eto'o doesn't look to have been a great one. Torres has been our best striker and Eto'o has struggled to find his rhythm with Ba third choice. At this point in time I think you could argue that keeping Lukaku instead of signing Eto'o with him and Ba being 2nd choice behind Torres (at least initially) would have bought us just as much success on the pitch as we have had so far this season.
October 9, 201312 yr I think this quote from Jose is massively unnecessary "It's one thing to play for Everton, another to play for Chelsea" It can be read in many ways with different interpretations. For me, it is a little bit of facts. Opponents against Chelsea usually are very defensive and they put 2-3 people around the Chelsea striker. Opponent against Everton, are willing to attack and leaving 1-2 people around Lukaku, where he has chances to outmuscle the defender.
October 9, 201312 yr Be that as it may, its not going to do anything to comfort Lukaku in an already bizarre circumstance.
October 9, 201312 yr It's pretty much the same situation as Sturridge with a slight difference that Lukaku had a few more years on his contract - any self respecting striker has got to feel he would do better than Ba and Torres, otherwise they might as well pack their bags for Uni and retire from football altogether. It's true that it's one thing to score for West Brom and Everton than for us, but we don't have a striker that's scoring so it's very easy to for a guy like Lukaku to expect that his form from last season would be enough for him not to be in the pecking order behind Torres/Eto'o and to certain extend Ba(although the situation is a bit different with Demba since he would not be here had some mid tier clubs been interested in taking him off our hands).
October 9, 201312 yr Off course hes upset about going on loan. He bloody should be. Id be more concerned if I wasnt and if he felt playing for a midtable side was were a player of his calibur should be playing.
October 9, 201312 yr Lukaku never said he wanted Everton to finish above Chelsea, he just said he wants to prove himself by scoring more than our strikers. For me that's a good thing to hear. And he definitely will score more goals than any of our CF's.
