October 21, 201312 yr Why not? Oscar, Mata and hazard are allowed as much freedom as he was. Because he was used as a pure scorer by United after his 3rd season, Saha/Rooney were basically either on the wing or holding up the ball for him to score. The only similar situation to a whole team geared towards basically getting one player the ball to shoot/beat players has only happened once in the Prem since than with Bale at Tottenham because their strikers were beyond pathetic last season. Also it would be depressing for me to mention how many goals the likes of Rooney/Tevez/Saha managed as sidekicks Edited October 21, 201312 yr by Las7
October 21, 201312 yr Our game at the moment is more aimed at getting the attacking midfielders ahead of the striker, if anything them getting more goals is more impressive than Ronaldo as he was where their entire attack was targeted. We have 3, they had one.
October 21, 201312 yr Our game at the moment is more aimed at getting the attacking midfielders ahead of the striker, if anything them getting more goals is more impressive than Ronaldo as he was where their entire attack was targeted. We have 3, they had one. You don't seem to recall that time, they had plenty of other strikers who scored plenty of goals. They had plenty of good players other than Ronaldo that proved a goal threat. So in essence they had one player on average scoring 25 goals and a few other strikers guaranting another 25 goals 2008/2009 Rooney 12 Berbatov 9 Tevez 5 Total: 26 2007/2008 Rooney 12 Tevez 14 Saha 5 Total: 31 2006/2007 Rooney 14 goals; Ole 7 goals; Saha 8 goals Total: 29 Lets substituted lest say those players for Oscar/Mata/Hazard the totals won't be much different - what will be different is that we don't have a 20 goal striker to provide the edge. So if we win the League it would be despite this obvious handicap and first time it has happened in possibly the last 50 years in the EPL. The real point is that our strikers cannot look for excuses about how the team plays - and whether we are concentrated on creating chances for midfielders. It's not an excuse even when you have teams like Barca and Real or United with Cronaldo those teams's other strikers/false nines still managed a good return. They should be averaging at the very least numbers similar to the likes of Rooney/Tevez/Berbatov/Saha at United in the past - the reason they are not is because they are not good enough. Hoping at least Eto'o disproves this trend
October 21, 201312 yr every team has its weak points, its all about the sum of all the teams parts. the team with the greatest accumulative talent wins the league. our AM's are quite possibly the best in the world, our defence and gk are very good, as good as any other team in the league. our striker situation may be an issue, but overall we are still the best, or second best, squad/team in the league, and are more than capable of winning the title. city have a gk issue, united have got a general performance issue and a centre mid issue. arsenal are always vulnerable against strong/physical teams, ad we know they lack squad depth. liverpool are weaker than most of thetop teams in every department except their strikers. tottenham are prone to inconsistent form (see the west ham result) and are generally quite weak mentally in the latter stages of the season. given all of the above, i would say we are in a fantastic position, and more than capable of strolling to success this season.

October 22, 201312 yr You know... That goal tally will be made up by Ramires, lamps, ivan, terry, luiz and cahill ( leave alone Schurrle, willian and de bruyne). Manu barely had and have anyone else scoring. Why dont you just compare the total goals scored during a title winning season? So because we have defenders who score goals we should be happy with Eto'o/Torres/Ba who are likely not to get 15 EPL goals combined, great logic If you want to disapprove me go look at Goals scored by title winning teams over the course of the decade and look at how many we scored last season Edited October 22, 201312 yr by Las7
October 22, 201312 yr Our AM's are not the best in the world. If they were we'd lead the league and our CL group. They can be though. The potential is there. Ozil, Robben, Ribery, Iniesta are delivering more than ours currently anyway. Silva of late could be added there as well.
October 22, 201312 yr I think this thread has stolen the title held so dearly by the Torres thread for the last 2 years as the worst thread on this site.

We have Eden Hazard who is amongst the best drible midfielder, Oscar and Mata who are very creative midfielder. We do lack a midfielder with finishing touch who can take shoots from outside the penalty box and the one who has a strong heading capability to win inside the penalty box (Ivanovic doesn't count, he can only be there for dead balls)

October 23, 201312 yr As a picky chelsea fan, I would like to point-out that even though we have goal/goal attempts from outside penalty box, how big your expectancy is to have somebody shoot from more than 30 yards during recent matches. Gone are the days when we had the young Lampard and Essien who would continuously test the keeper from a distance.
October 23, 201312 yr Andre Shurley did at the start of the season and people moaned about it. Luiz is always blasting shot at goal from far out.
October 23, 201312 yr Luiz was fairly close to scoring a stunner yesterday if I remember right. Bounced nicely for him and I swear if that when in...phwoar...We would all need to clean our ceilings.

October 26, 201312 yr While we're patting him on the back he's put Everton above us in the league.....
