December 14, 20169 yr I actually liked the fact he was tenacious, and at times, a real runner. But, you just can't play for a top side behind the strikers and not register a goal every 3 or 4 games. Which I think he did only at first (when we had MaZaCar ). He benefits most from having the passing players around him, so that he can act as a surprisingly astute and down to earth player. But when you have less of those tiki-chicken-tika players, like our current situation, you need to step up and fill the creative boots left behind (Mata), which he did not. Top players adjust their game, and he couldn't. He even looked uncomfortable in central midfield, always looking like he wanted to go for goal, knowing full well he wouldn't hit the back of the net. A jack of all trades, or a master of 1. You have to pick which you'll be no matter your profession. He's clearly the former (as is Willian, as is Pedro, hence having their days numbered regardless of form). We need more masters. Edited December 14, 20169 yr by Katyusha

Ramires left having accomplished just about everything you can accomplish. I really don't understand this move for Oscar. I think he would do well in another European league. He physically developed late and is a small framed guy anyway, so maybe the Premier League isn't the best place for him. But you could never convince me that China is a better place. 4 hours ago, Saru said: I wish I could earn £350,000 a week while "throwing my career down the drain" Can't blame him if he takes it tbh, ridiculous amount of money. If he can't live the rest of his life on a year of his current wages, he has a major problem with personal finance skills. Seriously, I don't even know what I'd do with the new wages that I couldn't do with his current wages. And if he has a major problem with personal finance skills, he'll continue to have problems no matter how much he earns.
December 14, 20169 yr This would have to be the deal of the century, surpassing us managing to wring 50 million (GBP?) from PSG for David Luiz in 2014. Back then IMO David Luiz was more valuable than Oscar is now, whom I wouldn't value as being more than 15-20 million. I did think Oscar was very talented, but he never really kicked off here. He would always start the season really well, then fade into mediocrity. The only 'good' season he had here would be 2014/15. Perhaps part of the problem was that he was simply overworked. He put in a hell of a shift and he probably played more games than anybody else in the squad, so burnout was inevitable. Another issue was that while his movement, technique, work ethic and defensive abilities impressed when he was at his best, he was never one to conjure up a killer ball like many #10's can so he couldn't be relied upon to pierce more defensive sides. However, even his work ethic has declined recently. I wish him the best (even though like others here I believe he could still play at a high level).
December 14, 20169 yr The prospect of having 60 million quid burning a hole in our pocket and an attacking midfielder sized hole in our squad is tantalizing. So many world class players that could be brought in to play where Pedro currently is for that sum. Or alternatively if we can find a decent left wing back, that would also be nice.

December 14, 20169 yr apparently oscar has told a brazillian media the deal is 90% done times now joining the fun wow, it's really happening, 60 feckin million..

December 14, 20169 yr Now Oscars gone(going) who's going to be the next painfully average player we wrap in cotton wool for years because he is young and "might" come good? My moneys on Kenedy.

Instead in the prime of his career, he's going to play in a joke league, fade in to obscurity and probably lose his place in the Brazilian squad, just because he'll be rich, doesn't mean he isn't throwing his career away. I suppose it depends on the definition of career, and there's a multitude of ways one can do so. If one is really concerned and places a lot of value on actual development, titles and legacy -- then of course you are right. But let's not forget that footballers still see it as a job, and monetary rewards at the end of it are important -- even moreso given how short their career is. Now I understand the whole point about them being rich already, but I assume once you are that rich you also get used to a certain lifestyle you want to maintain. If he is moving to upgrade from earning 4.6mill to around 18mill a year, it's really not something I could blame... with the right investments on that amount of money after his stint in China, he will be able to retire and earn the amount he has been earning at Chelsea for life.

I agree with you, but I also understand that our perspectives are skewed by our own lifestyle. I know that in my life when I have went up a level, let's say in the quality of things I get, or holidays I go on -- it's generally not something I would go back on. So with Oscar being accustomed to a certain level of lifestyle, he will obviously want to keep it, for life... and then you remember that footballers careers are relatively short. This stint in China would bring him enough money to make investments that will ensure he was earning the equivalent of 'Chelsea money' for the rest of his life virtually passively.
December 14, 20169 yr It's good money but I'll be sorry to see him go. The writing has been on the wall for a while though, he doesn't really fit into this system in any position.

Him and Arsenal seems to be absolute miles apart in terms of conditions, Alexis wants almost double of Arsenals best salary offer and it looks like he is going to run down his contract unless Arsenal does something extremely drastic to their wage structure and offer to Sanchez. And there is no way, for me at least that Arsenal is going to just let him leave for free if they can get 60-70 million for him from us now. Even as a competitor to them. He might go to us, United or City anyways in little over a year for free if they decide to hold on to him. I don't know if we are even interested ovbiously and i can imagine Conte wants a midfielder and a defender more even but its an interesting situation and an interesting thought for me. Dont think Arsenal would allow the sale regardless of him running down his contract, particuarly to a rival club. Think purely from a PR view it would be a disaster. Im sure there will be foreign clubs sniffing around and they will sell to them if needs be. Would love it to happen though, and maybe we have some working relationship after cechs sale.
December 14, 20169 yr The only way I see Sanchez signing for us is if he has any desire to remain in London, only he can make the move to CFC materialize (Which I don't see happening) otherwise there is 0 chance of Arsenal letting him join us.
December 14, 20169 yr Can’t really say I will miss the lad in all honesty playing wise. He didn’t play all that often of late When he did play he didn’t offer much in the attacking side of things He’s been stagnating ever since his goals against Juve some 3-4 seasons back. I’d have been thrilled with £20 million so nearly 3 times as much is dream land if we can invest it into the squad with a player or players who are top end then it’s fantastic.
December 14, 20169 yr We sold Cech to Arsenal. You can guarantee they will not do the same thing in Sanchez's case.

Maybe not but if he doesn't sign the contract you bet they would take the money over letting him leave on a free, I don't see it happening as I think he will sign a new deal but like I mentioned earlier if Sanchez wants to sign for us (better salary, remain in London & a better chance at trophies) I don't believe Arsenal can black that move but it will come down to Sanchez making it happen.

I don't think there will be a struggle of clubs trying to sign him if he does run down his contract, we certainly wont be the only interested party. I can't see how they could allow him to move to us especially in a title race this season (or end of season). Arsenal seem the type of club like Spuds who'd take the hit on a few million if it meant him moving elsewhere and getting one over on us.
December 14, 20169 yr Oscar has claimed that the deal to take him from Chelsea to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG is "90 per cent done". The midfielder was subject to a huge £60million bid from Shanghai, who are now coached by former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, on Tuesday. Current Blues boss Antonio Conte insisted last month that Oscar's long-term future lay at Stamford Bridge, but it is believed that Chelsea could be tempted to sell and re-invest the money by buying new players in January. Oscar has started just six games in all competitions this season - nine overall - and the midfielder has now claimed that he is close to moving to China in January with only small details left to be completed. Speaking to Brazilian broadcaster SporTV, the 25-year-old is reported to have said: "It's 90% done. READ MORE Fans no longer pine for Jose with Chelsea out to go six-points clear "It just depends on some bureaucratic details." Oscar joined Chelsea from Internacional for £25million in 2012, and was wanted by Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning earlier this year. However, the midfielder did not want to leave Chelsea although he is thought to have since been swayed by the presence of Villas-Boas at Shanghai and the increasing number of Brazilians now playing in China, including former Blues teammate Ramires. Oscar is likely to receive a significant pay rise to his current £90,000-per-week salary at Chelsea should he move to China, with the midfielder expected to earn anywhere upward of £300,000-a-week.
