MOTM v Bucharest

Featured Replies

Not sure how to start a poll in here seeing as a load of the buttons are on the Fritz, but worth while talking about it I feel.

For me it was Hazard, contributed well, won us the penalty, albeit a missed one.  And linked up with Ash very well

Honourable mention to Ash too, covered his part of the pitch, played opposition players into areas where he could make the tackle, and covered for Luiz a couple of times later in the game when we had pushed forward.

Mata, just keeps showing how great he is.

Thanks

Torres? Really? He was pathetic for 55/60 minutes of the game, missed a penalty and mad a mistake for the goal we Conceeded. He was improved no doubt but he wasn't close to being the best player on the pitch for me - though it's too be expected as people praise him as long as he doesn't trip over his own feet.

Hazard for me followed by Cole and Mata.

Mikel for me.

It's not that stupid.................................................................... some people are voting for Torres

A goal and a bit of determination at the end doesn't mean he played well. Just a bit better than usual. Last 30 mins were promising though to be fair.

Cole was immense, as were Hazard and Mata.

Hazard was class again tonight and looked the biggest threat.

Hazard_a_guess, you really need to stop the Torres hating it makes you look pathetic. He was one of the best players tonight and if people want to vote him MOTM then that is up to them. Also that wasn't Torres fault for their goal, Luiz gave the ball away that led to their corners so it was his fault. Torres did what he had to do. You are just over analysing Torres because you hate him so much, i could pick out just as many mistakes from other players as well, even Mata and Hazard lost the ball a lot today, Oscar was awful and Mikel was very poor AGAIN tonight but i don't see you nit picking their performances.

We should make the most of any good performance Torres gives us because we all know by now that we ain't going to get many of them.

I'll go for Torres it was defiantly one of his better games but i think hazard was also very good, I think since FSW has been at the club hazards overall game has improved he seems to be the player we all expected him to be when we first signed him.

I agree Scott, if people want to state that they don't think Torres or Mikel are playing well thats fine, but it really does go over the top especially on that Mikel thread, it's as if people genuinely hate them, they're just guys trying to make a living by playing for OUR OWN TEAM, regardless of how w**k they play they should be supported so long as they try.

And I should probably mention I didn't see the first 35 minutes of the game because the channel showing it in Australia had to show extra time of spuds-inter before they switched to our game, so my vote for Torres was based off mostly the 2nd half.

And anyone saying he was at all at fault for their goal is a fool, had he not blocked the shot it may very well have gone in as Cech wasn't close to it, Mikel was the man marking the guy that scored I believe and didn't even come close to blocking the shot. And obviously Luiz was also at fault making two atrocious mistakes leading to the corner (passing the ball to their striker then getting nutmegged by him).

Mata. No question. His touch past the defender on the first goal was amazing. He hit the free kick for the assist to Terry's goal. And he made a great pass that Hazard dummied for Torres' goal. Good performances all around but Mata is on another level.

@Jonty, I agree, i have done my fair share of complaining when it comes to Mikel but i don't post on here to have a go at him at every giving opportunity. If he plays well i will say, if he plays poor i will say then as well, some people on here have become obsessed with talking about how bad a player is even if they play well.

I felt HAZARD for me...(but) well done to Nando who tried so hard to please us all...I thank him for the QF goal...Never mind about the miss....Score again v West Ham on sunday mate.......Cant wait for the draw today

There is something about LUIZ thats getting my tastebuds going...He is not technically great but these forward forrays have me on the edge of my seat when he gears up....You never know how theyll pan out but, hey, i like em...Also hes becoming a tough little cookie. A sort of leader from his position onwards....Goading players forward..Making it hard for the oppo with his physical being....Keep improving LUIZ......You may one day be a legend

@ daledotman Hazard was my MOTM last night too but how the hell has the FSW improved Hazard's game? What has he done? Did leaving him out against United improve him? In case you have forgotten, Hazard was playing brilliantly at the start of the season under Robbie.

@ Jonty how can you vote for a MOTM if you only saw one half of the game?

@ Scott Harris, you're right Hazard-a-Guess goes completely over the top with his opinions on Torres but you saying Nando was one of the better players last night is also a completely overboard assessment of his performance. Until his goal in the 72nd minute he was his usual anonymous self. His only moment of note being the shot in the first half that missed the goal. If that is the benchmark, Mikel had two shots in the first half and one of his actually forced the keeper into a save. There was one point in the 2nd half where Luiz was running up to take a long free-kick towards the Steau penalty area. JT had moved up field for it and you could see him ready, alert, on his toes, bouncing back and forwards, keeping himself moving and his marking defender guessing. By contrast Torres was stood there, next to his marker, with his hands on his hips!!! Give me strength. Have you ever tried running or controlling a ball with your hands on your hips?

Look, he took his goal well. An important goal too. And, despite the missed penalty, he had a good 15 minute spell after the goal. But anyone saying he was MOTM over Hazard, Mata, Cole or Ramires is just daft and this sort of over the top praise happens every time Torres does something half decent. Perhaps it is because it doesn't happen very often.

Hazard or Mata best players in the pitch by some distance. Stunned (or should I be?) that Torres is picking up votes for doing no more than run around with edge for the last 20 mins.

Before his goal he was the utter definition of passenger. Again.

Hazard for me, though Mata was very good as well. When those two are in synch it's great to watch.

Torres made an overall positive contribution to a match for the first time in ages. I don't think he did much more than what we'd expect a centre-forward to do though so not really a MOTM performance.

I didn't think Luiz and Mikel had their best games yesterday, both were sloppy in possession on several occasions. If Cole wasn't so alert and ready to mop up after Luiz then we could have been knocked out last night.

Hazard gets my vote, almost every time he got the ball he was looking to take his man on and open up some space.

On quite a few occasions they doubled up on him and he was still coming out on top like when he dribbled between two defenders and played the 1-2 with Mata inside the box and hit that thunderous shot the keeper did well to keep out.

Luiz had a great game too, made some very good interceptions and generally defended well.

Mikel I thought had a good game, seems to have been instructed to play higher up the pitch and was unlucky not to score.

Torres, much better performance. Wasn't wondering out on to the wings and was generally taking up good positions inside the box. He took his goal well and hopefully he will play with a bit more confidence in the next game. Rubbish penalty though.
