Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I actually think Van Ginkel would be a good signing. Has been one of the steady eddies for Vitesse this year (along with Bony) at such a young age. He started out as an AM with a killer through ball. This season he played more as a box to box midfielder, something which suits him more imo.

Things i have seen and read about this guy all seem very promising, as Remodez said its about time we benefited from having Vitesse as our affiliation club.I would expect us to buy him and loan him out although i could be wrong.

The Dutch giants had also set their sights on the promising midfielder, but he is destined to make the move to the Europa League winners instead

Ajax have conceded defeat in the race for Vitesse midfielder Marco van Ginkel's signature.

Sporting director Marc Overmars has admitted that the Eredivisie champions cannot compete financially with Chelsea.

The Amsterdam giants were keen to sign the Netherlands international ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, but Van Ginkel will make the move to Chelsea instead this summer as he is set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing since his return to Stamford Bridge, much to the disappointment of Ajax.

"Ajax were very interested in Van Ginkel and we were willing to go quite far," Overmars was quoted as saying by Voetbal International.

"But if we have to compete with one of the big clubs from England it is always going to be difficult for us. We cannot beat Chelsea's financial resources."

Van Ginkel has a contract with Vitesse until the summer of 2015, but the Arnhem side are ready to cash in on the 20-year-old for a fee in the region of €8-10 million.

The midfielder has been one of the stars of the Under-21 European championship in Israel this summer as Netherlands have qualified for the semi-finals after wins over Germany and Russia.

If he is already a full Dutch international, and the rumours about his talent are true, then he is already good enough for us, remember a young Van der Vaart and Sneijder tearing it up..

But with World Cup year he will want to play every week and we probably cant guarantee him that.Players his age need to play.Look at the improvement of the players we have sent out on loan.Lukaku,KDB,Courtois,Chalobah,Kalas and others that's what regular football does.

I can see us signing him and loaning him straight back to his current club for a season. I doubt he will play for us this coming season. Maybe the board are looking for a replacement for Frank.

What Chelsea should do is loan him to Norwich. They were actually after him until we stepped in. That way he would get use to the league and be ready for us the following season.

Two things, I'd like to see us loan to him to either Norwich, or possibly to a German team similar to De Bruyne's loan (Leverkusen perhaps?). I think either of those would be good for him as a step up in his development.

Secondly, could you change the second line in your avatar to 'uno' instead of 'you know'. It would make me a happier person.

Without hearing about Norwich, I figured we would try and get him into Germany. Part of me wants him to stay at Vitesse and send them Ake or someone else to forge a nice understanding in midfield.

You would really want him to make a step up so he would be more ready to join us sooner. Staying where he is doesnt seem like moving him up.

I agree about Ake though, he could do with a loan move. Maybe someone like Palace or Hull. Some where he will have to fight in every game.

Interesting if this deal did happen, would be continuing the recent trend of buying young players for a (reasonably) small fee and hoping they develop whilst on loan with a view of them coming into the squad within a couple of years.

I know they haven't played for us yet but I consider the purchases of KDB, Courtois and Lukaku a success because all of them are now better players than when we bought them and I would imagine if nothing else they could all be sold for a profit which is very rare for Chelsea.

Should Van Ginkel go the same way I would have no objections.

I don't think Ake could be guaranteed football at either of those, it's a bit risky. You have to carefully balance getting them playing at the highest level and getting them playing the most games. It's a difficult decision and it's one we've made mistakes with in the past.

Also, I'm not best pleased that you're putting Moi's happiness ahead of mine, but she is the forum's French mistress and we must of course obey her. jareth.png

According to the Daily Mail (yeah I know they're not trustworthy) this guy is close to signing after Mourinho has assured him of first team football. I havn't really watched him so was wondering what those who follow the Eredivisie think of him..

Neither did I. I watched him on youtube and also read various journalists' scouting reports on him. He was awarded Dutch Talent of the Year for the last season, which is essentially best u21 player in the league. Seems to me like extremely talented box to box. Would love to see him in Chelsea shirt. He's gonna be big.

His agent also claims that he will sign for Chelsea and that he will get the chance in the first team.

@voetbalpings

Marco van Ginkel vertrekt naar Chelsea meldt zijn zaakwaarnemer: "Hij vertrekt naar Chelsea, hij sluit aan bij de eerste selectie."

He is CM, and he will play. Simply because he offers something different. Much like Schürrle, we have bunch of AMs, but not that type.

If he signs and doesn't go on loan then one of Mikel, Essien, Romeu must be getting sold.

Depends, maybe Mou will go back to 4-3-3 with three players in the middle of the park, then no one has to go.

Still, even if he plays 4-2-3-1, I believe van Ginkel won't be the destroyer like Mikel, Essien and Romeu are, but the one that goes forward, scores and assists. Long term replacement for Lampard.
