Premier league top 6 this season, who's stronger, who's weaker

Featured Replies

Compared to last few seasons:

CFC - stronger, better coach + schurle - Prediction top 2

ManU - weaker, big change to style has to make them weaker Prediction 3-6 range

ManC - I am guessing stronger. New coash some additions, maybe more - Prediction top 2

Arsenal - Unchanged, and that really means weaker. prediction 3-6

Spurs - Stronger. They have already strengthened midfield. If they add a striker they will likely finish in top 4 - prediction top 4.

Not sure there's anyone that's showing much sign of really stepping up so far.

Its early days in the transfer season, but a team that is going to improve will probably have its transfer business done fairly early, because that's the smart way to do it.

I guess its Liverpol for 6th but noone is standing out.

Liverpool keep buying mediocre players because that's all they can attract. With Suarez leaving soon, I would say they're fate is Europa League again.

I don't think you can ever write United off as title challengers.

Moyes is only just getting his feet under the table and may be assessing the squad before making moves in the transfer market. We know they've already bid of Baynes and there is a chance Rooney might be off too so there will be changes to their squad.

Arsenal are being linked with some decent players but they have yet to make any significant signings, Higuain is set to sign but will he be much of an improvement on Giroud and Podolski? I also thought Walcott insisted on more game time through the middle which is what held up his signing a new contract, surely if Higuain does sign then it means he will play on the right again?

City are a strange one, Navas looks a talent but is he really over the chronic homesickness that has plagued his career up until now? He looks very direct and pacey and will be a really threat on counter attacks. I'm not convinced by £30m for Fernandinho, that one sticks out as an odd transfer to me. Basically their signings so far just replace the rubbish ones they made last year in Sinclair and Garcia so have they improved their squad that much so far? Pellegrini is going to have to find his feet tactically in the Premier League too which is going to be interesting.

If Suarez does leave Liverpool then I think they will still finish outside the top 6 because he really did carry that team at times last season. Their defense still looks pretty unconvincing to me and if the rumours of Agger leave turn out to be true then I think they will be the weaker for it. They've made a few signings so far but I'm not sure any of them will be a huge improvement to their squad personally.

Spurs look to be strengthening and I think they will sign Benteke which will give them the goal scoring threat they missed for large parts of last season and if they do sign him I expect them to be fighting for the top 4 again.

Chelsea = Stronger, finsh top

United = weaker, finish 3rd but only because the players they have.

City = stronger, finish 2nd, our main threat this season

Arsenal = the same, finish 5th.

Spurs = growing stronger, finish 4th

Everton = so weak. Relegated imo

Liverpool = the same. finish 6th

The have hired a manager who got his team relegated last season and for the last couple of seasons before that only just kept them up. They have now signed a number of players from Wigan. I think the Everton owner has made a massive mistake. I have put money on them going down this season.

Theyve signed kone who is an upgrade in anichebe, The other signings are squaf players. It looks like they'll only lose baines.Martinez did well at wigan, he won the fa cup! Wigan have smallest gate numbers every season with little or no money to spend. Cant see that squad finishing lower than 12th. Everton have never been relegated.

Chelsea= will be challenging for the title, stronger than last season with new signings and the fact that we have given this team a year to gel.

United=hard to say, I could still see them winning the league but at the same time Moyes could be changing things to quickly.

City= top 2, they have one heck of a solid side and a better manager

Arsenal= could be 3rd but most likely 4th, could challenge if they sign Higuain, a decent box to box player and by adding further depth.

Spurs= Stronger but will underachieve again.

Liverpool=Theyll be stronger and more annoying than last season but will still finish 6th imo.

Everton= not a fan of Martinez but they'll be ok.

People shouldn't underestimate Utd. Sure, Fergie's gone but those players played under him, some of them for a long time, and they learned a lot, particularly how to win.

Remember, when we won in Munich, seven of the players that represented us that night played for us under Mourinho, and that had a lot to do with our success, not only that night but in the five years before then, under all the managers that came after him.

It would have been more than seven as well, had Terry been available and Essien fit.

Even under a nonentity like Grant we almost won the Prem and the CL, and Moyes is far from a nonentity, he's a very good manager who has paid his dues and learned his trade, and Fergie's still there in an advisory capacity.

It's a 3-way race for me ..

Between ourselves, Tottenham, and Liverpool, obviously.

1. Chelsea (but only if we manage to get a decent centre forward. With no addition to Torres/Lukaku, we will end up a pathetic third, I am sure.).

2. City

3. Spurs

4. United

5. Arsenal

6. ??

7. Liverpool

IMHO, they were shaky even last year when they won the PL. Lets be honest, they won simply because the rest of the playing field was substandard; RVP had an unbelievable start to the season, the referees favoured them (nothing new) and most importantly, they were really lucky at crucial moments of certain matches. They haven't really strengthened their squad, the Fergie aura+influence is gone. They won't finish any better than third, I'd say --- that too with Spurs hot on their heels all along. It is Spurs vs United for third.

Presumably, you have Arsenal in 5th then. It's what people keep on saying every year and they're always wrong. I expect this season to be no different.

I doubt anything will really change and for that reason I would be pleasantly surprised if we won the league.

You don't think that we have as good a chance as United or City of winning the title?

I think all of the top five will improve this summer - doesn't the Premier League start its new TV deal this season? The huge increase in revenue compared to other European leagues could lead to English clubs being as dominant as they were 5-10 years ago.

City and us have already changed managers (indisputably for the better on both counts) and both of us have gone about addressing gaps in the squad. I think Man Utd will need reinforcements (and they have already been sniffing around Baines) if Moyes is going to make that squad competitive (especially if Rooney leaves). Arsenal have their fingers in a few pies too - they've been linked with players in Higuain's league (in terms of price) before, but it never seemed quite as real as this summer...

Next season could well be a sight to see - I can't wait!

Arsenal are being linked with players but have yet to pull the trigger so as it stands with the players they have released there squad is considerably weaker(as it stands).

I'd rather wait and assess the squads for the season a few days before the start as there is still quite a bit of activity left in this window.

If Wenger doesnt strengthen before the start with at least 1 big name then he has no interest in a new contract or keeping his job cos even the 'in Wenger we trust' lot will have the knives out and is viewing things purely from a shareholders perspective. I believe either his contract or his shareholdings(which he has a few) means he gets a fair few quid when shareholders dividends are paid out each year which they wouldn't be if he was blowing £50-£100m each summer in transfers.

Another reason a number of gooners are getting more and more angry with the 'its not your money Wenger spend it' jibes knowing that kind of,in a way... it is.

Back to the topic though, to early IMHO to assess squads with more wheeling and dealing to be done.

Last year, I predicted the same and was ALMOST right :P

I am more certain this season. :)

I expect the same top four as per the last few years, apart from one year when we decided to give it a miss,

then realised we would miss playing in it, so we went and won the competition, just to save the blushes of that

other north London outfit, as they would in all probability get knocked out in the preliminary round.

1 Chelsea

2 Man City

3 Arsenal

4 Spurs

5 Man U

6 Liverpool

As much as I would like to see utd down there, no way it is going to happen, rottenham are also

just going to have to be patience for a few more years to taste proper CL football

United is fighting for the title with us and City closely followed by Spuds and Arsenal.

United is not weaker at all. SAF is still looking over things from the behind and there are able people in Moyes' team. What I think is Moyes is not trying to change anything or make his mark in the first season. He just wants a trophy of some kind with that squad to open his account on trophies.

I think we'll be a bit stronger with Jose in and Haz, Oscar adapted.

Agreed on the top 3. United shouldn't be written off, and I would expect a major signing or two for them before the summer is over.

I can't see Spurs finishing outside the top 4 again, I think they'll get CL football this time.

City will be right up there, so will Utd. I think it'll be:

1. City

2. Chelsea

3. Utd

4. Spurs

5. Le Arse
