Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas will move to Chelsea, according to talkSPORT's Spanish football expert Graham Hunter.

The Barcelona midfielder is reportedly set to leave La Liga and a return to the Premier League is on the cards, with the Blues believed to be his most likely destination as they seek to replace Frank Lampard.

Asked by the Sports Bar to give a one-word answer on where Fabregas would end up, Hunter said: "Chelsea."

He then added: "Barcelona are off the record confirming that there’s an agreement on price with Chelsea. I have to admit I do not know what Fabregas would think of working for Jose Mourinho though.

"There were times when Mourinho was with [Real] Madrid that Fabregas was - although articulate - very critical of Mourinho’s behaviour. That can change, huge wages can make you work for different people."

However, Hunter did add that Bayern Munich could scupper any chance of a deal if the German giants manage to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger.

"The reason Barcelona want to sell Fabregas is they want to spend €60million on buying Koke out of his clause at Atletico Madrid.

"But Pep Guardiola does wants to move Schweinsteiger on. He feels Schweinsteiger doesn’t move the ball quickly enough for the brand of football he’s trying to implicate [at Bayern].

"If Schweinsteiger gets sold then maybe there will be a bid for Fabregas but if you ask me where he will end up, I think he will end up at Chelsea."

Schweinsteiger-----Matic

Willian-----Fabregas----Hazard

-------------Costa

Now however unrealistic, wouldn't that be something to see.

The real question is why are we going for Fabregas (if true) when Schweinsteiger is allegedly available?!

I mentioned this before but age is a factor.

Fabregas is just 27, Schweinsteiger will be 30 when the season kicks off. Those 3 years make a difference, and I don't really want to see us spending huge amounts of money on 'old' players.

I bet people were saying stuff like that when Pirlo was leaving Milan, now look at him...

Roman buys Fabregas for Guardiola to bring sexy football for 2015 as he is getting fed up with the style of play.

What guardiola would bring us not sexy football, its tedious 2 yard passing to bore opposition teams to death.

Just predicting the headlines as I am struggling to imagine Fabregas being wanted by Jose. There are two things Jose always wants from his attacking players. The ability to work well in the defensive phase and total commitment without question. I can't see either from Fabregas at Chelsea.

Fabregas is used to a high pressing game. That's what Barca at their best did, press and press.

He'll be perfect.

The Express are running with the story that we've agreed personal terms.

Where did he mock the Spanish style?

He was a pundit in 2012 and wasn't impressed by the false 9 role DelBosque was using at the time. I think Jose wanted to see Torres play more...

Koke, Vidal and Pogba all have buyout clauses of at least £50M. Fabregas may be fourth choice (or possibly even lower) in Mourinho's ideal world but if it comes down to £25-30M for Fabregas or being bent over a barrel for any of the rest, it's just smarter business.

I don't particularly want him on a personal level (tiffs with Lampard, diving to win penalties against us, being critical of Jose and how we play) but he is definitely good enough to sit next to Matic and pass the ball about.

Bottom line is, if he's willing to come here after slagging us, that says more about him than it does about us. Just imagine the gooners faces...    :laugh2:

Did he mock it?

Come on you know Jose he called it a sterile system and most of the attacking players were Barca, Fabregas playing false 9 Iniesta, Xavi and Pedro. The man who coached them was the Special One in Spain DelBosque and Jose was always going to get digs in. So yep he mocked how Spain played at that time in 2012.

I agree with him, I think its tedious to watch a team pass with only the intent to keep the ball and play percentage football. Spain bored me senseless on 2012, barely even interested in attacking. Guardiola has gone to Munich and made them much less entertaining to watch with his 2 yard passing sh*te.

Not to mention less successful... Bayern were a better side under Heynckes IMO.

It makes sense to use that system with Spain as the players are used to it but not Bayern. The irony is Jose would have been a better fit for Bayern and Guardiola here with the players we had last summer. But Bayern and Chelsea can't argue you know what you get when you appoint them.

Fabregas' game is the complete opposite to that passing sh*te dkw very rightly described it as.

My brother is an arsenal fan so I watch a lot of their games. I remember this north London derby where Fabregas scored the second in a 2-0 win. He robbed a player from the restart and ran straight at them, so direct, nobody expected it.

I still believe he is slightly over rated and there are better options out there albeit more expensive.

Whatever happens, I'm glad the club are looking for a passing midfielder because that's a weak area in our first eleven.

Just to add about Guardiola he wasn't exactly a failure just the 4 trophies and won the league by 19 points.
