April 24, 201511 yr Hehehehe... That deserves to win the Oscar of gifs. Seen it before many times but never fails to make me laugh. Edited April 24, 201511 yr by GhostOfDembaPast
April 26, 201511 yr Some Arsenal fans reckon today proved why they didn't need Fabregas back! Elm ok then the top assist maker in the league who has helped us be top of the table all season isn't needed by the team in 3rd ten points behind us.

April 26, 201511 yr I love him now obviously, couldn't stand him before he came here though. Although to be fair he doesn't appear to as remotely whiny as he used to be, isn't constantly bitching about other teams after the game anymore. It's astonishing really when you compare the discipline here and at United compared to Arsenal and City. Don't understand the Arsenal fan logic though, Cesc wanted to leave for years, they wouldn't let him, he left and said nothing but good things about them he still does, he remains humble despite Arsenal fans booing him constantly. Yet the likes of Nasri constantly slates Arsenal and is relishing to score against them (he has made that known by the way) yet doesn't get anywhere near the abuse Cesc does. Even though it was Arsenal who rejected him in the first place. Just don't understand them at all, it's like us booing Juan Mata, never says a bad word about us, wanted to leave so we let him, comes back we never booed him. Even that sh*t head David Luiz, celebrated in front of our fans, I can't remember the whole stadium booing him. Like I said... strange bunch.

April 26, 201511 yr Gooner fans constantly call us classless cause well they're idiots but look at the way we've treated guys like Lamps and Mata, pure class. Exactly, I'm not a fan of Lampards move to City, I'm still not I am still disappointing in his decision. But I was so delighted with our fans, the reception they gave him even after he scored against us was phenomenal, could you imagine Arsenal fans ever doing that? I do love him though the move just hurt me, he was my childhood player, crucial to the team, Chelsea was Frank Lampard and Frank Lampard was Chelsea that's the thing what ruined it for me. It's a stain what is hard to wash out, but it shows the character of our fans the class too applaud him given the circumstances.
April 26, 201511 yr Saw some Arsenal fans applauding him as he went off, reciprocating what he did but he got awful abuse for most of it. Classless twats on the whole in my opinion. We treated Mata and Lamps properly because that's what we do. Proud today.
April 26, 201511 yr Brilliant piece from Barney Ronay. Some of you will disagree with it but I think he's spot on .. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/apr/26/arsenal-cesc-fabregas-chelsea
April 26, 201511 yr https://twitter.com/Antho562/status/592387218142027776/video/1 I couldn't understand what they were singing - do you have an English translation? BTW, I need to admit I was wrong about CFC signing Cesc - Dude has been a proper Blue this season & maybe he can emulate his time w/ Chelsea to that of Ashley Cole. People won't remember Cole as a gooner but they will remember him w/ Chels!!
April 26, 201511 yr Played well yesterday, showed them what they are missing. It's infuriating just about every time he get tackled in the box, it's a yellow card against him. From memory, he was no friend of Jose, but he really adapted to Jose's style now.
April 27, 201511 yr Thought he had a good game too...most bizarre thing he did all day was to thank arsenal fans for the reception he got and all that, when they treated him like sh*t...I'd understand it if he'd turned Wenger down to sign for us, but arsenal had the option to buy him back and said no...it's their own fault! But at least they have sicknotes Wilshere and Ramsey to call upon regularly instead
April 27, 201511 yr They boo him because he's helping us win the title. Something they haven't done in ages. It must hurt pretty bad.
April 27, 201511 yr They boo him because he's helping us win the title. Something they haven't done in ages. It must hurt pretty bad. especially since he didn't do this when he was their Captain

April 27, 201511 yr Brilliant piece from Barney Ronay. Some of you will disagree with it but I think he's spot on .. Very good piece - the writing is what we crave & rarely get & most of what he says is sharp. But......had it mentioned & dwelt on the assists so as to add the balance then it would have been more accurate and, of course, where is the comparison with Ozil. Simply not there is it? So on reflection it's very pretty, very accurate in parts, but overall - not very comprehensive is it?
April 27, 201511 yr A bit extreme though. Much better further forward with a fit Costa to feed Shocking revelations in that piece. Fabregas having been booked and with Matic and Ramires providing cover didn't look to make too many tackles and also struggled to impose himself in a match when we had no threat behind their defence. Yet in the fixture against this lot earlier in the season he controlled the game magnificently, was a stoic defensive presence alongside Matic in a more defensive role and played the ball of the match to set Costa free for the second. Ronay has a very nice writing style and I hope he enjoyed watching his first Chelsea match of the season.
April 27, 201511 yr Ronay has a very nice writing style and I hope he enjoyed watching his first Chelsea match of the season. This is quite a rare negative this weekend, where I feel that, generally, the pundits and press are starting to look at our season overall (as we're now perceived to be closing in on the title). I expected them to slate us for our defensive approach on a game by game basis, but they haven't. I think they realise that the last 2 games were like cup finals, and respect the 'don't lose' approach Edited April 27, 201511 yr by NorthernMonkey

I expected them to slate us for our defensive approach on a game by game basis, but they haven't. I think they realise that the last 2 games were like cup finals, and respect the 'don't lose' approach I agree. You also saw the majority of Chelsea fans not just predicting this type of performance, but sort of hoping for it. We always talk about how Arsenal fans have been conditioned to accept performance over results and maybe we're coming around to accepting the opposite. We're becoming connoisseurs of pragmatic, defence-first football able to recognise the beauty in a drab 0-0 affair. That feeds into the larger discourse and writers reflect that....so of course you then need a contrary opinion because when the current is going in one direction you invariably get a few who swim upstream. Ronay composes some excellent points but I don't think they have much grounding in reality and he's extrapolating too much from one performance.
April 27, 201511 yr I'm pretty sure the same accusations could have been leveled at Wesly Snjider (SP) who was the best player int he world in 2010 (don't believe what the the sh*t the press pour out) Absaloute key to Inter's tripple and dragged, yes dragged Holland to a world cup final. But a midfield enforcer he never was, a speed merchant, not on your nelly. Simply a very effective piece in a machine. At inter Cambiaso did the grunt work, holland had the city player's who's name escapes me at the moment. We could say exactly the same for Deco by the way, who in 2004 was amazing. What Jose rearlise's and always has is that it's about the diffrent components that make up a team, this isn't 5 aside football or a computer game. every player has his role. You would expect Fabregas to work hard but you wouldn't expect him to be putting in crunching tackles and breaking up play all the time any more then would expect Matic to be playing 40 yard raking through balls to perfection or spotting a blind one touch pass in a crowded box. I make the same defense of Willian and Oscar.

But at least they have sicknotes Wilshere and Ramsey to call upon regularly instead He took the moral high ground. Despite his every touch being booed for 90 minutes he still applauded the home crowd in recognition of all the years he spent at Arsenal, helping to develop him into the top class player he is today. As a consequence some of the boos turned into reluctant applause of recognition. I think Fabregas did the right thing personally because by praising his reception it means that those that did boo Fabregas look like the class morons they are.
