Cesc Fabregas

Featured Replies

What was Henry's record for assists in a single season? Could Fabregas still get it?

Henry had 20.

Fabregas had 15 up to the 17th of January. He's played 4 games in the league since then, 10 games overall

He still has 15.

If he gets the record from this point, it would be a nice way to answer the second half of the season criticisms. Not that it really matters as long as he's playing well and helps us to the title. And according to the man himself:

"I don't expect from midfield, from nearly getting the ball off John Terry, to get an assist per game. If I was playing next to Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Eden Hazard every game, then I'd say maybe [i could do that]. But for me, now, it's about making the team play, making the team click, passing the ball to Hazard, to Oscar, Willian and Juan Cuadrado, all these players. I try to make the team move forward and make runs when I can.

"The position I play is where you have to be more of a complete midfielder, you have to defend well, attack, control midfield, you have to pass well, you have to know when to go forward and control the tempo of the game. It's more difficult, but I enjoy it more.

If I was playing regularly as a No10, I'd say judge me on my assists. But in a midfield pivot like we play at Chelsea, where I'm much more behind the strikers - I'm 10 metres behind the No10 and 20 metres behind the striker - of course I'm not going to get in the same position as many times as when you're No10. It's more difficult to get assists."

"That's why the number of assists I have is a little more impressive. But I'm happy in the position I'm playing and, hopefully, I can learn a lot more from Jose Mourinho."

"This season I'm going back to where I started. Between 16-20, I played in the role I am now, but since 20 till 27, I was playing No10 and sometimes as a striker. It's like I'm going back to where everything started, which is midfield, where I can conduct the team from the bottom of the pitch to the attacker."

"It doesn't matter to me if I assist five games in a row or don't because what I see from myself right now, when I watch videos of games, is I contribute much more in the build-up play, in all of the areas, which I was not doing in the past few years. That's where I see I'm improving, especially in defence, getting in the right position, staying more disciplined."

Cascarino saying in one of the papers, Cesc won't be first choose next season, what do you lot think?

I think the mere fact Cesc was on the pitch after the vile threats to his family speaks volumes about what footballers have to put up with even before they undergo pressure of a game.

He had a lot more freedom when Oscar came on an caused havoc many times in the Hull box, including helping create the goal. Basically I'm saying I know not everyone loves Oscar, but he is freer with Oscar playing as Oscar is an intelligent player so he knows he'll fill in instantly when he roams, while Rami is brain dead unfortunately.

Personally I think whether there's any truth to it or not depends on the availability of Luka Modric.

I think it's a valid question.

Undeniably a class player but he's looked increasingly like a luxury the more the season has progressed.

He won't get as many games next season because Jose will now be aware he requires rest.

He was amazing first half of the season but his reputation for fading the more the season ensues have proved entirely correct.

Barca sold him because they thought they could do better, they bought Rakitic to replace Xavi, even though they had Cesc and knew him better than anybody.

That doesn't make Cesc a bad player, but he's not the quite the player I thought we had landed after that first few months.

I think he gives us a problem next season because we will require cover.

This season there have been too many players we couldn't drop, even when their standards have slipped.

Sure, we're still top but I think that's more due to Jose's managerial prowess than anything else and he will be worried about quite a few of his players next season, strange as that may sound.

Right now, we have five players playing below the required standard in my opinion, and Jose will want increased competition for places, in order to up everyone's game and in order to keep everyone fresh.

:laugh2:

Mourinho loves Cesc, he's one of his untouchables. As long as Cesc is fit he will be playing

He's also one of our best players and one of the best midfielders in the League, there is not a chance he will lose his place next season

Nonsense.

Cesc will be vital next season just like he has been this season, he's the only player we have other than Hazard who actually creates chances. If anyone would be in trouble it would be Oscar IMO.

We need better cover for sure but Cesc will remain one of Joses vital pieces to this squad, half the squad have dipped form and Cesc has been carrying knocks.

Tony Cascarino once ate a Wimpy with a milkshake on the way to a match because he didn't think he'd play.

The club striker went off injured early in the first half and Tony had to take it easy when he replaced him because the Wimpy made him feel ill when running about.

Point being, maybe take this man's footballing opinions lightly.

Delighted for the man today. Don't think he's ever scored a more important goal in his career.

He may be one of us, he may not but he's scored a goal that will forever be etched in our history.

Up until the goal this was one of his worst performances of the season, we had no composure in midfield and he repeatedly gave the ball away.

Then he scored and all was forgiven, i'm not sure if he was trying to kiss the badge or not but it surely looked like it, fantastic.

It really wasn't as far as our midfielders went he was the only one who was able to keep the ball and find little pockets of space.

We had, as a team, our lowest pass completion success rate yesterday, somewhere around 70% I think I heard.

I don't think the dry, bobbly surface helped with that and the side were clearly struggling to string passes together.

As for Fàbregas, he doesn't score as many as perhaps he or could or should but that was an absolutely vital goal yesterday and he took it so well and calmly considering it was our only shot on target all game.
