In my opinion, this could be Silly Season's best bargain. I can't understand why Bayern (Pep) has transfer-listed him. An excellent player, great physique but also an underestimated technique. If you believe the rumours, you should get him for a sum around €20M. And that's really, really cheap. I think we and many other big clubs will be stupid as hell if we/they don't try to sign him.

It was German "Sport Bild" who first came out with the news that Gustavo, pretty much, is transferlisted. I'm not surprised, because he isn't the "Guardiola-type" of player.

Would Pep want to sell a good player to Mourinho's benefit though? I don't know if he's that petty to do something like that but their relationship was made out to be really bad by the Spanish media.

Essien will fill the role.. and I tell you something else, I'm a little bit excited about it.

In pre-season he has looked close to his old self, with people bouncing of him, using his strength to win balls he has no right to win. I don't think we will ever see him marording up and down the pitch again but I think he can deff do a Job for us

I don't think we have variety in the middle of the back, if I am not wrong we have 1 DM ( Mikel) & 4 Box-to-Box midfielders (Lamps, Essien, Ramires & MVG). IMO there is not enough quality in that midfield and if we go the whole season with those 5, we will encounter the same problem we did last season. We have too many box-to-box midfielders and missing a DM/ Deep-lying playmaker, teams like City (Fernandinho, Yaya) and Spurs ( Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho) will rip us apart in the middle of the park.

essien has been a box to box midfielder for years, I think he play defensive midfielder. He looked fitter and stronger in pre season than he has for a while and I think he could surprise a few people this season. Then next year chalobah will be knocking on the door, and to be honest, I think he could force his way in this season, but a final season on loan would be the safer option.

I hear where you're coming from but some of those Indonesians would bounce off Oscar.

We had several games last season where the pivot was non existent and one-paced, dropping points very late in the game. I just don't see how Essien; who IMO the jury is still out on regarding fitness and coping with the pace/strength of the PL after his injuries changes things. Buying a Gustavo/ Khedira will improve the quality in the middle of the park, and allow our creative players to flourish instead of dropping deep to pick up the ball.

I want a new DM like Gustavo more then a striker at the moment.

if he signs for Wolfsburg in a deal around 10-15m, I will be very, very upset that we did not go after him. He is an amazing talent

Gustavo spoke after Bayerns win just now vs Sao Paulo, he said:

 

"I have a two year contract and I'm happy here. But a lot can happen until August 31."

 

Indicates that if the right offer is there, he could leave.

More exciting news regarding Gustavo. German "Bild" reporting that Pep wants to sell Gustavo. And that teams like Arsenal, CHELSEA and Italian side Inter have all made bids.

That would be nice. We need someone who is mobile and very defensively oriented.

Are you guys sure he is an upgrade to Rami or Essien or Mikel? Maybe a slightly better player...didn't Javi Martinez basically take his place. I think we should be after the quality he is like De Rossi or Khedira.

Gustavo's agent says he's ready to negotiate with German side Wolfsburg (if there's interest from Wolfsburg). The agent also says that he will listen to all offers.

 

Pretty much confirmed then, that he's not in Guardiola's plans.

 

If Mourinho wants him he will get him. Would be a great signing IMO. Considering he's unwanted in Bayern, the price tag wouldn't be too high. Maybe around €15-20M. And that's a really good deal.

Wolfsburg have nothing to offer, they have some decent players but they are at Newcastle's level and will finish mid-table in the Bundesliga if that. PLEASE JOSE! Sign him up!

i'd rather de rossi but Gustavo is certainly the next best option and still very much a top player.
