High expectations?

Featured Replies

Forgive me if I've missed an existing thread to this same effect but I was just wondering how high expectations are amongst us Blues for this season.

I feel that the return of Jose has lifted expectation to very high levels amongst a lot of our support but I feel a bit more cautious myself. I do expect to finish top four and have one or two good cup runs but that's as much I do. I reckon that the integration of quite a lot of new young players and with so many competing for only a few places that it will take quite a while for things to settle down. So I wouldn't be surprised if we slip a few points behind the Manchester sides quite early on but claw back a few points later on.

I certainly don't think that it is impossible for us to win the title but I'd be pretty content if we can finish with 9 points of the winners.

If I had to call it now, I'd go

1. City

2. Chelsea

3. United

I think we will definatley challenge, but come up just short, which our young players will learn a lot from. I think we with Lampard playing less games and no world class striker we lack someone who will win games when we are really up against it.

We are relying on a younger player having a phenominal season, HOWEVER this is a possibility. If Hazard or Lukaku have outrageous seasons then there's no reason why we cant pip City to it.

I think we are a De Rossi and Rooney off the title.

I wouldn't say I expect anything more than before because Jose is here, but I do believe that we will do better because I believe in Jose.

If we won nothing this season and came 3rd I wouldn't be disappointed provided our young players improve and there isn't a load of bullsh*t rumours about Jose getting the sack.

I think we have good strength in depth, albeit many young and inexperienced EPL players, so a strong challenge for League and FA Cups is perfectly feasible. However, I won't be surprised or too stressed to see us fall in the final knockout stages of CL to more established sides and finish 2nd or 3rd in the Premiership.

I fully expect us to be challenging for the title this season, as long as that criteria is met and we get to the CL QF I would deem it a successful season.

I don't really think the level of the EPL was very high last year and if things continue like that it only takes a marginal progression by us for the club to be challenging for the title.

this being a world cup year.  all players will be looking to make their claim for their international team.  competition will be fierce ithroughout the leagues. chelsea have a majority of the senior players on the international radar.  competition within team will translate to the pitch.

1. chelsea

2. city

3. arsenal

4. manu

I still believe that we're a striker, a DM and a quality central defender away from the title. Maybe Lukaku, Chalobah and Kalas can become these guys but I don't think they're quite there yet.

With the squads as theu currently are, the title is City's to lose in my view. We're battling it out with United for 2nd.

I'm expecting us to win. Why not have high expectations? We have the best manager in the world and he is already proven with us. The other teams should be sh*tting themselves, not us.

If we sign Rooney we will take the title, if we don't sign anyone else then it's a toss up between us and City. Who knows we could hit the ground running and Lukaku could continue from where he left off last season (his goals to minutes ratio was better than RVP wasn't it?). We have every reason to be positive that's for sure!

Im sure that Jose will have us playing well and we wont be losing to the likes of West ham and the sh*t teams like QPR last season. I expect we will be feared once again like we were years ago.

I personally cant wait for the first game against Spurs this season. The teacher vs the student. Its going to be amazing.

I think we are the team to beat this year, with Jose's return, fergie's departure and Man sh*tty with half a new team and new manager i think it looks like its going to be coming home to the Bridge! Ithink we will have a decent chance in a cup competition or two as well.

I think Hazard will be player of the year and Lukaku Young player of the year.

Come on you Blues!!!!!!!!!

We have a better squad than this time last year, and although I will always have a soft spot for Robbie, we have a better manager too. My expectations are higher than last season and we weren't doing too badly until you-know-who.

Unfortunately Man City are in a very similar situation to us. I think we should be challenging for the title but there would be no shame in losing out to City.

Man Utd are looking weaker than last season and the manager is an unknown quantity at this level but you never know with that lot.

Listening to Pat Nevin on BT Sport last night he reckons Chelsea fans are in for a treat this season. I think wee Pat is a great knowledge of the game so just hoping his soothsayer qualities ring true... :-)

I didnt ever see Pat play but him and Kerry are my favourite people on Chelsea tv. They are both great to listen to. Pat is very clever and Kerry isnt afraid to say what he thinks.

If we had that top notch CF I would expect us to win and think we'll come short of a few points because of that...but really hoping for a top 2-3 no more CL qualifying stress bullsh*t  ,please not this year!!!

I had high expetations when Mou was announced, but i also expected him to make quality signing like Cavani or Falcao and a midfielder like Sven Bender /Fellaini / Khedira or De Rossi. But none of that happened

We havent been able to controll the game since Makelele and Ballack left, i cannot understand how board and mourinho cannot see this.

We got owned in possesion by lower teams like QPR last year and board still doesnt see that.

So after no signing but the depth(schurrle and van ginkel), my expetations are not that high anymore and ill be happy with 3rd or 4th place.

im one of those pessimistic fans who lowers their expectations before a season so i dont end up bitterly disappointed. but this season... i dont know if its the mourinho effect, the fact that we can be proud of the club again now fsw has f**ked off, whether its seeing us play so well in pre-season, seeing our youngsters looking like world-beaters... i just dont know, but im super confident we will win the league this year, and i very rarely feel like this, let alone say it.

I'm the opposite, that's why I always end up disappointed if we don't win something :(

It's really hard to call. I just want a consistent season where we don't just f**k it all up again in November. I'd be happy with a top 3 finish and a good run in CL. I think City are our biggest threat but I'm not sure about Pellegrini, he could turn out to be a massive flop.

I'm probably biased but I do feel Manure fans are in for a shocker this season, wouldn't be surprised to see them finish outside the top four.

Other teams I think will do really well this season - Swansea(top 6), Cardiff (top 10), Tottenham(top 5 - especially if they keep Bale), Liverpool (top 6).

Either way we are definitely in for the most exciting premiership we have seen in years.
