He'll be 32 next season and knows our policy, its disrespectful to even ask for a 3 year deal when we wouldn't do even close to that for Lamps.

I personally think Willian knew he was never going to get a three year deal. He knows full well about our over 30's policy and he is lucky he was offered two years. I think that Willian wants out, and even if we did offer him three years, he would suddenly want four years. This is just Willian setting himself up to say "I wanted to stay, but the club didn't want me enough". The reality is though that if he wanted to stay, he would sign the two year deal, and if he is still good enough after those two years, he would get another year. 

I imagine he wants a mega deal ... he won't get that from a contract extension ... he'll be looking for a similar deal as Sanchez got to go to Man United, whereby a lot of the new club's savings on a transfer fee will get wrapped into his personal compensation package (and that of his agent of course).

He's had an "ok" career with us, but definitely well below our top players historically, and he's definitely nowhere near legend status.

I agree, it does look like an hes engineered a way out but I expect he has also been given a 3 year offer elsewhere so you cant blame him for asking for the same at Chelsea. I think hes been a bit badly treat by fans over the years, basically he`s not been as bad as many make him out to be, but also he hasnt been as good as we all hoped he would be. Very much meh, as the kids say now.....

This is an unpopular opinion on here, but I never rated John Obi Mikel, never thought he was good enough, had 1 good game in 5 and I was happy when he left. Same with Kalou, although that's not too unpopular, I think both of those players were never Chelsea material and managed to stick around a lot longer than they deserved. However, I don't put Willian in that category at all, I think he has been Chelsea material, he's a quality player, just inconsistent and has had bad patches at the club. I think the Conte drama also gave him a lot bad PR with Chelsea fans, whereas with Mikel I don't recall him ever complaining, however, Kalou I do remember him protesting after he scored against Spurs when Ancelotti wasn't playing him. It's all I can think of really... Because I personally believe Willian is 5x the player either of them were.

John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou both have a CL winners so they’re alright in my book 

Seriously though if you took the name of what you said about Willian it could be seen as a description for Kalou.

Mikel was great under Di Matteo when we were playing defensive football, so there's certainly that. But Kalou was always a poor footballer, Willian is far better, but Kalou would score a lot more goals and be in the right place at the right time. 

But Willian is certainly put in the "meh" category by a lot of Chelsea fans, I think that's unfair to him.

Willian in my view has been a good servant and had some excellent games and scored important goals, imo though I always got the impression he was playing for Willian FC and not Chelsea FC, Mikel though definitely put Chelsea before himself, all those years he played for us, he wasn't in his more favoured position, but got his head down and played. And that's probably why Mikel is far more liked, I don't hate Mikel, I just never rated him as a footballer or ever thought he was Chelsea material, he never exactly took off after he left here either, I think he's currently playing in the Championship or Turkey. Willian on the other hand is a quality footballer and is and has been Chelsea material, even though I think many would disagree with that statement unfortunately.

I think to be fair mate, your pretty spot on, apart from I think at the time Mikel was rather underated, and only when he left did people start to think he was a bit of a cult hero.

Well I'm aware my opinion is in the minority, at the time I used to always argue with other Chelsea fans about Mikel so it's not really changed for me. For me it got to a point where him being underrated made him overrated, if that makes sense, I just never got the hype, but I never knocked his attitude. I know on the personal front Willian has had his problems here, but I still think he's been levels ahead in terms of performances and ability than the likes of Mikel or Kalou ever have been here. 

I also think the Champions League performance wins him a lot of bonus points, which I can understand, but even David Luiz & Bosingwa put in a worldie that game.

Totally. I think he is a talented player who does a lot of things that are underappreciated but I agree with the Willian FC stuff. Always sooked whenever he wasnt in the team including the Conte FA Cup final crap. Unfortunate trait of many Brazilian footballers in my view play for themselves first and the team second. 

Meanwhile players like Mikel took a lot of crap from our fan base but always put us first and played his best game for the club on our biggest ever night. Unpopular opinion: Jorginho is just doing a poor Mikel impersonation.

I think he has been great this season, I would dare say his best season in a Chelsea shirt. If you go by all of our experienced players, he's been the only one that's really stuck at a top level, whereas everyone else has been pretty subpar compared to the youngsters, Azpi, Pedro, Kante, Rudiger etc.

Yeah true, but you could also make that argument for Azpilicueta, he's had some really good games this season but overall this is still his worst season in a Chelsea shirt and Reece is putting in better performances. Overall Tammy has been a lot better than Giroud, but the last few weeks before the season got postponed Giroud was saving our bacon.
