Willian

Featured Replies

Always respected the industry he brings, but for a forward player, he simply does not contribute enough.  I will not miss him if he moves this summer, which I think he should.  It is time to move on.

According to Wiki he has scored 32 PL goals in 222 PL appearances over 7 seasons.  That's 4.6 goals per season, from a winger.  No, not for me thank you.  Take out his prolific 8 goal season and the average drops to 4 per season, 38, or 1 goal every 10 games.  Pitiful production that we've settle for.

With no contract renewal news, felt like he's lost that extra bit he had in some earlier games this season. I'm not saying he's lazy or not showing up, but kind just going through the motion lately. Again, it's on the club too. If he's keen to stay, don't drag it on just sort it out while he was playing well. If not, get another player in to cover him

Very possible, but giving Willian what he wants is also the bad move. Giving him a two year contract would be a HUGE mistake, even giving him a year right now would be. We should wait until the season is finished then give him a year, if he doesn't take it he doesn't take, no hard feelings.

Some fans still want him to be given a contract?  His last good game was against Arsenal last year, we are almost at the end of Feb.

Of course he should get a one-year extenstion, assuming he wants to stay. Hopefully he will have a reduced role next season after the signing of Ziyech and whoever else we end up with but he will still be a very useful and experienced player to have in the squad.

Definitely not.

Pedro has already been replaced by Ziyech, and Willian should get replaced by Sancho. Massive upgrades on what we have currently.

4 top wingers on the books will be more than enough to handle a season with multiple competitions.

You'd think so, but this season we've had CHO, Pulisic, Willian, and Pedro and how many times have all four been available? And we haven't signed Sancho yet anyway and it will be a hell of a job to get him.

I just don't see the sense in making the squad weaker just because people don't like a player's face. Ultimately I think it will be up to Willian, I'm sure Lampard would love to have him around next season.

But having Sancho and Ziyech are far superior to Willian and Pedro. The reason we have issues at the moment is because with just 1 or 2 injured, Pedro and Willian are nowere near good enough for us. Willian has good games on occassion, but there are more bad ones than good, and pedro has been bad for a long time now.

On the other hand, if we have Ziyech and Sancho. Even if one of them gets injured, we have Pulisic and CHO to fall back on. Of course there is a rare chance we could have 3 of them injured at once, in which case I would much rather give the position to a youth player temporarily.

We do not have Sancho. If Pedro and Willian leave that leaves us with three wingers: CHO, who is an exciting prospect but it's still unclear if he will fulfill his potential. Pulisic, who has had some good games but has been just as inconsistant as Willian, and has also missed a lot of games due to injury. And Ziyech, who will join us from a much inferior league at the age of 27.

My heart agrees with @driller97 but my brain agrees with @bluedave, I want us to go all out for Sancho in the summer, it really reminds me of the Hazard situation and I don't want to miss out on it. I think he would be very interested in coming here if we have Champions League football, a lot of the signs are there.

But Willian is a good experienced player, why not have him around for another year? Nobody is saying he should be a starter; I mean he'll be 32 going on 33 next season I believe, no winger that age should be a starter unless you're Ronaldo or Messi. But I'm more optimistic about the other two than Dave is. Pulisic has been fantastic for a 21 year old who people had very low expectations of, because believe me I remember how negative people were with that signing. Pulisic with less games has around the same stats Willian has, I would say he's been the better of the two and has bags of potential. Ziyech is an absolute quality player and has shown that in the Champions League against top opposition, we've seen players come from that league and do well elsewhere time and time again, it shouldn't be dismissed, Eriksen just an example, I was fully expecting him to flop at Spurs.

Pedro has to be on his way out though, he looks a shadow of himself, Willian on the other hand is still a good player and I think experience is important to keep around, I say keep him if we can. But I also fully believe if we can spend a 100 million on Sancho, we should.

My whole argument was based on the fact that we do sign Sancho..

If we didnt have Sancho, then we can't afford to lose both Willian and Pedro. I agree with you that we should keep Willian and Pedro is gone regardless as we already have Ziyech.

We need 4 top quality wingers, 3 is definitely not enough given the injury problems of CHO

You seem to be forgetting how disruptive he was when he wasn’t starting games, and I am not sure he will be motivated sat on the bench. Wasn’t the Utd game Pedro’s 6th start in the league this season? If we are going to be closer to the teams above us, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near the 1st and I’d rather give his spot on the bench to a youth prospect.

Yup. I always liked him but never forgave him for that crap with Conte.

If we sign Sancho he'll be on his way. But that is a huuge if.

Lovely as it would be, we ain't buying Sancho, he's one of the hottest young properties in Europe, whether we get champions League or not, we simply don't dine at those tables these days when those transfers happen, Willian it is for another season I'm afraid.

Well remember the snapchat thing? That was out of order imo, if he's doing stuff like that chances are he was being a d**khead in the dressing room.

No, what snapchat thing?

There were a lot of rumours surfacing that Willian had fallen out with Conte, nobody knew how true it was, but when we won the F.A. Cup against United, Willian posted the full team and blocked out Conte's face, pretty much confirming they had a falling out, it was very immature.

Is this the thing where he posted a team picture and covered Conte with trophies to show how much he loved him?

Not quite, he deliberately blocked out Conte's face. I mean I might have missed the sarcasm here tbf but I'm not sure, but to me it looked like more like a diss than vice versa.

If we don't sign Sancho, then we look at other possibilities. Use our buy-back clause on Boga and get him back.

Anything but another season of frustration and mediocrity of Pedro and Willian. BOTH need to be moved on - no ifs or buts.
