Victor Moses

All signs do point to a panic buy so far though. Jose has hardly played him at all, even with Oscar and Willian putting in woeful performances pretty often. But £27m and a long contract means he's tied down here now, we won't be able to get rid of him if Jose doesn't want him.

Just like Willian.

That's nearly £60 million on two players who don't add very much at all to us attacking wise.

We just can't waste that kind of money anymore.

I think people are making too much of this. I really don't think the club would spend £27M on a player especially now in FFP era on a player Mourinho doesn't rate it just doesn't make sense.

Just last year we spent £11m in janurary in the exact same circumstances on a player Jose gave a few appearances to and then shipped off on loan.

Lamela

Jovetic

Osvaldo

Giacherini

Aquilani

Dossena

Veron

Mutu

(Crespo?)

Maccaroni

Off the top of my head, just some of the flops from Seria A to arrive to the Prem. Other than the ones tob come to Chelsea pre 2000, I can't think of too many who have really done well. Always cautious about Serie A signings.

Countiho after a long bedding in period. Santon maybe? Anyone else...?

Tbh it's probably BS if we wanted him back we would have got him back. How would Stoke have stopped us?

Moses allegedly declined, not Stoke.

We probably respected his wishes to stay on loan because an unhappy player is useless to us.

Coutinho didn't have a long bedding in period. He's been great lately but his first half season was good too.

Interesting point. Serie A is obviously not what it used to be and the pace of the game is also much slower. I would imagine players who move to England find it hard to adapt initially.

Of the names mentioned though, Lamela and Jovetic are quite young and came with the pressure of big price tags. Jovetic has struggled with injuries, and Lamela had started to look better this season, so they could both yet turn it around.

Mutu and Crespo were not successful here for obvious reasons.

Aquilani and Osvaldo showed talent, but one was seriously injury prone and the other seems to be a headcase.

But the sheer number of names there means its more than just bad luck and something to consider when looking at targets from Serie A as you say.

Difference is Salah was only 21 and only £11M and was coming from a poor league,it was always a big gamble signing. Cuardrado is in his prime, costing £27M and coming from a stronger league. They didn't have to buy him we could of easily just used Ramires there until the end of the season or brought back someone from loan.

If Moses did decline to come back, then surely he will never get anotehr game here. You can't decline the help out the club who owns you and pays your wages for f**k sake.

One way to look at it, and I agree to partly feeling that way on hearing about this. Another is he is continuing to play and develop. If he was to have come back as well as us signing Cuadrado then how likely would it have been for him to play?

If he was told he would play and said no fair enough, not looking good for him. But we know better, he would have taken Salah's place.

Hazard is (rightly) unmovable from the side. After that seems the pecking order is Willian, Oscar, Cesc, Ramires and then Cuadrado for the other 2 positions in the 3 behind Diego. Most weeks he probably would not have even made the bench, Salah often did not.

  • 2 weeks later...

Apparently Stoke want to keep him:

Peter Coates:

"There are some obvious things we want to do [this summer]. [...] Victor Moses is an interesting [situation] for us, would like to see how the land lies with that one."

"If we can, we would like to do a deal."
