Would Torres accept that or would he look to move and take a paycut? Money is one thing but pride is another. At 30 would he be willing to sit out two more seasons for the money? It be a bluff on Chelsea's part but if they did do it and then we needed him surely he wouldn't refuse would he? It is a lot of money wasted if he called the bluff and stayed though...

If he is to be played at cm like he was for the majority of last year, he has fabregas and matic immediately ahead of him, and based on pre season form, arguably van ginkel too.

Add to that existing competition from Romeu who has signed his new contract, and assuming mikel stays, then he could very rapidly find himself warming bench for significant periods of time.

i didnt say romeu is ahead of him. I said arguably Van Ginkel could be ahead of him come the start of the season, but in any case he will be in direct competition with them for a place at CM, behind Matic and Fabregas who are unquestionably starters.

Totally agree, give his place to one of our best youth players.

Way to back a young player there. Is he going to be a world beater? Probably not but he's better than people on here seem to be making out and at only 23 he's got a lot of time to improve . If he can do a job similar to Kalou whilst being 5/6th choice I'll be happy. We won't lose money on him, (we could sell him now for the money we bought him for today if we wanted), he doesn't take up a non HG squad slot unlike Marin, he may only play 10-15 times this season it's not a squad breaking decision to keep him. I'd prefer to have him stagnating in the squad than Hazard or Piazon who could get loads of football out on loan and have the potential to be real quality players.
