Easiest and hardest position to play?

Featured Replies

What positions do you think require the least and most amount of skill and practice to be good at?

Least in my opinion would be a winger.. Hardest probably centre midfield.

I don't think winger is an easy position, you basically need speed, technique and similar attributes which are mostly gifts you are or aren't born with. I'd say LB/RB might be one of the easier positions to play.

Thinking about it from the perspective of major injury crisis and you have to throw in a youngster...

Hardest - centreback - imagine being a youngster coming up against a Drogba, RVP, Suarez,...

Easiest - an attacking position - probably no-one expects you to score, but if you do you're suddenly a hero.

Most under pressure- goalkeeper

Hardest in terms of fitness- centre mid

Hardest in terms of skill- Striker

Id say it depends on the formation. Generally midfield is harder because you've got to cover so much of the field and worry about attacking and defending.

Also depends on your team if you're a world class striker playing in a not so good team you'll have to do more off the ball running to get into positions the players can find you because they might not have the vision or passing that you're accustomed to from better players.

Easiest, probably striker

Fullback is definitely the hardest, especially these days when you need to be up and down for a full 90 min. Playing on the wing is a easy position to play in as you have quite a bit of space and it's a good way of developing your technical abilities without being punished/being a burden on the team, in fact a lot of youngsters are eased into teams by starting out on the wings before being moved into more central positions.

Fullback in the modern game seems the most energetic, expected to get up and down for the full 90.

In my opinion there's not one position that's easier or harder to play than any other.  If you train all your life as a striker and are then asked to play left back it will be really hard.

A couple of people have said that being a striker is the easiest, yet there are very few really really good strikers out there, if it was that easy we wouldn't still be struggling to find one.

From a personal point of view I played left back and it was tough cause I am right footed. Then if your up against a speedy winger it gets tougher. Fullback have it tough because a lot of teams like playing speedy wingers. Can't really comment on any other position.

In terms of the question asked, I think centre/fullback is the easiest and striker hardest.

I'm thinking of a person who has all the physical attributes but has never played football, what position would be easier to teach him and require less training.

Yeah I remember playing football as a kid and of a player was big and could kick the ball far he would be played center back. Ha ha.

I thought being a winger would be the easiest as you can't really get blamed for not scoring as that's the strikers job and you can't get blamed for defending because that's technically not your job despite tracking. All positions are difficult and as someone said above, being a fullback is extremely difficult given the current climate.

I've always thought that since the DM position was invented it has to be the easiest gig. There are expectations of ALL players but for the DM, he doesn't really get the blame when goals are conceded as it's usually down to the defence and the keeper and he's certainly not to blame when we aren't creating and scoring goals.

It's an old cliche about football being about putting the ball in the back of the net. Goals win games and even the most prolific strikers go through bad spells. So striker (No. 9) has to be the hardest.

Unless of course your name is John Obi Mikel.

I think the original poster was asking more from a technical point of view that physical effort.

In that respect l think that fullback is the "easiest" position. Although fullback requires a lot of running up and down the flank, the technical abilities required are much less than playing up front or midfield, and any lack of tactical or positional discipline is likely to be less critical than in central defense. Fullback was the position I used to play as s kid on account on me not being very good and too lightweight to play as a CB.

I think striker must be the hardest position. Most kids want to play upfront so often the best players will end up in this position. A good striker needs to be technicality proficient, highly confident, intelligent and hardworking. A decent physicality is also a big help.

Least = Paperboy

Most  = Peacemaker for him & her next door.

Saying from personal experience a winger is quite simple. At least I like the most. Because you get the ball and have the chance to run down the wings usually only coming up against 1 sometimes 2 defenders until you reach the box. I actually play as a centre-back but I love attacking because in attack I get to choose which way to go rather than base my actions on what the opponent chooses to do. Although that said I am much better at defending than attacking.
