September 21, 201510 yr Should. But won't. The headlines have already been written. I'm glad he's said it but it's essentially what any sane person would have inferred from watching the actual interview. As you say though it won't make an iota of difference for the press.
September 21, 201510 yr I can only think that John Terry would only be delighted to see his role beginning to pass to an excellent young player who is capable of taking the torch into the future. Edited September 21, 201510 yr by EmeraldBlue
September 21, 201510 yr Love the guy Reminds me of a young Desailly no nonsense quick as lightning and strong.
September 21, 201510 yr A brilliant performance from Zouma and he should just get better and better. Stepping up to the plate in a big game and delivering can't be easy, especially when you are replacing the best CB in the league. Great to see JT showing his support and cheering him on. Noticed him mistiming a few jumps in earlier games but don't think he missed anything during the game Vs Arsenal.
September 21, 201510 yr Should. But won't. The headlines have already been written. Headlines were written before he even said it. Probably asked him to read a teleprompter but deleted that part for air.
September 21, 201510 yr Watched the video. Zouma's english is not perfect but he did say cheat. Freudian slip. No worries Zouma.
September 21, 201510 yr We need Moi. I dare say there are several French words, with a variety of meanings, for the English word 'cheat'. Lost in translation and all that. Poor Zouma experiencing the press teeth so early on and after his great game.
September 21, 201510 yr A succesor to Marcel Desailly as the papers claim? He's still a long way off from Desailly's leadership and classiness on the pitch though. However, Zouma's quick pace, anticipation and determination will put him in good stead for the rest of the season. Feel sorry for John Terry if he gets dropped for Zouma as I think Terry & Zouma will be an excellent central defensive pairing. Why? Because he's big and black? As a footballer his style is not even similar to Desailly's.
September 21, 201510 yr Big, black, French, same position and quality, too. That's nmore similarities than... White, English, Quality centre back (John Stones) labelled successor to JT, even though they don't have too many other similarities. Wouldn't read too much into these phrases in a world where any young, left footed dribbler with an eye for goal is the next Messi.
September 21, 201510 yr Desailly was a proper DM though, with good technique, ball controll and passing range. I like Zouma but he's nothing like that, he's a destroyer. Good player, great prospect but very different footballing style. This was more than evident last season when he filled in as an emergency backup in midfield.

Marcel's midfield play with Milan in the 1990's was amazing.
September 21, 201510 yr you better watch it Mister or Zouma will treat you like he did Gabriel Oh I thought he was saying, 'look at this choochy face'.
September 21, 201510 yr Oh I thought he was saying, 'look at this choochy face'. bet he thought different when Zouma put his death grip on his throat & denied him the air to breathe
September 21, 201510 yr bet he thought different when Zouma put his death grip on his throat & denied him the air to breathe Grip? It seems to me his palm is up, kind of holding Gabriel's chin up (probably so he won't drool all over the pitch).
September 21, 201510 yr Grip? It seems to me his palm is up, kind of holding Gabriel's chin up (probably so he won't drool all over the pitch). IMHO it appears that Gabriel is struggling for air. + I can clearly see Zouma's hand on Gabriel's throat & Zouma was providing some words of wisdom. Sorta like Jules Winnfield gathering money for Marsellus Wallace
September 21, 201510 yr Mate, just put your hand into a gripping and then a palms up position and compare both to the picture. That's not a grip. It would be very clear from a different angle. Also Gabriel is not struggling for air. That's just what he looks like. Edited September 21, 201510 yr by undertow
September 21, 201510 yr As has been pointed out many, many times, which of our academy have been good enough? Matic, who Jose bought back. RLC possibly, and he is now being integrated in to the 1st team. Any others? Bertrand possibly, but not really when he was here. Repeating a wrong argument "many, many times" doesn't make any better. It seems like your argument is "that a player is good enough of the first team if....he is already in the first team". That's circular logic and not an argument at all. Secondly, Matic was never a youth player. He did not play in our youth sides and as far as I remember, he didn't even play for the reserves. He was signed as a young first-team prospect and never really utilised by Ancelotti, shipped out to Vitesse and bought back in Mourinho's time after being developed by Jorge Jesus at Benfica. Zouma almost had the same fate, but serendipity has given him a chance. At some point a manager or club has to make a commitment to blooding academy players in the first team. If the only criteria is performance in first-team football then they need to be given the opportunity to play first-team football. That has not happened with Mourinho at any of his clubs (except Balotelli...) and will likely never happen here because he does not believe in development from an academy perspective.

Players have to break into the first team as Zouma has done. Who else has forced us to play them at a young age? At this point its harder to find reasons to keep him out of the team than in it. None of our recent academy players have done that, which is why none of them currently start. Take Stones as an example. He was toi good to keep out of the team. Which academy players have done the same for us?

September 22, 201510 yr Word salad? This seems to be a very popular line here on the forums for some reason. Edited September 22, 201510 yr by Maksimov

September 22, 201510 yr I think it was originally intended to just make fun of MayosNoun and how often he uses it.
