I liked him. Kept our defence occupied for the entire 180 minutes through one way or another, seemed to inspire his teammates with his front-led exemplary hard work. Didn't do anything spectacular, but then it's hard to do the spectacular against a (bar 3 out of character moments) solid defence and playing with a team that aren't spectacular. Still made and scored the most crucial goal of the match.

 

I can't see any way he wouldn't get score plenty of goals for us.

Didn't impress me much, but messi didn't either based on his record against us. I suppose it will be an upgrade, hope it doesn't blow out of budget if we lean towards him

The thing with Messi though is he has had plenty of chances to score against us, he just messed them up. Over 180 minutes, Costa never even came close to scoring against us.

 

He isn't someone who is going to get us though those stubborn defenses, he doesn't seem the type of player that can change a game in an instant.

Really not seen anything in him that warrants the kind of money we would be paying. And I'd certainly not involve him in any swap deal for courtois. Cavani is still the better option for me but I'm not even totally convinced about him. Can't help but feel we need to try and sniff out a striker no one is really talking about who has done the job. A rossi type or remy type!

I agree buddy, you're right we need to come up with someone from no where, maybe the World Cup will help us scout someone, like how the 2010 World Cup delivered muller, Suarez, Ozil, khedira. I don't think costa is the right man, I don't see anything special about him, and he seems to have a bad attitude, if we had to choose one I think I would go with falcao, with him I saw in plenty occasions that he has talent.

Clearly im in the minority but i enjoyed watching Costa throw himself around last night and think he would be a good signing for us. Watching from the stands it was amazing to see how much energy and running he has, we dont see a lot of that with our strikers at Chelsea...

There are though, we (Jose) just has to be very clever in the market. Over the years we have been burnt by spending crazy sums on players who haven't delivered, maybe we should try a prudent approach this time around. IMO we have other problem areas like a lack of width (a tactical tweak?), a ball playing midfielder next to Matic, and forward options.

Any two of Bony, Remy, Mandzukic, Doumbia, Immobile, Drmic will cost around the price of a Costa and offer something different; + Lukaku and we are set. My fear is we pay £30m+ on Costa and ignore the pressing need for a quality midfielder.

Lukaku has scored goals at premier league level, for a counter attacking team like west brom, and a possession team in everton. He's scored against top teams, bottom teams, he's scored important goals. He is also improving and becoming more refined each season.

If the club are completely sold on costa then let mourinho have his man, but if they are pnly signing him because he is flavour of the month, I think we should keep our money in our pockets, and give lukaku a shot.

If all 3 strikers go we will need to bring in probably 2, Id go with loic remy, who is already proven in the league available for £15m, and then theres ciro immobile, who from the looks of things is having as good a season as costa, dortmund are looking to sign him for €20m to replace lewandowski. Theres also josip drmic who jack super class mentioned, and he cpuld be available for as little as £4.5m if nurnberg get relegated, he's been heavily linked with arsenal.

Chelsea will definitely not go down the Rooney route again, and quite rightly.

I like Costa, got a bit of the Drogba about him in that he doesn't sherk away from a confrontation. 

 

He led the line quite well in my opinion and I wouldn't turn my nose up to seeing him in a Chelsea shirt next season.

He's having a great season but looks bang average on many occasions I have watched him.

Yes he works hard and puts himself about but he isnt a special player like Drogba was.

Balotelli would be a great striker if he could sort himself out. Unfortunately I don't think that would happen. More talent than Costa though, for sure.
