April 13, 201511 yr As is known I love this man so am biased, but yesterday I thought he did enough, he was there and in the way. The overall pace seemed slower and I think that was more about who was missing, not just that Drogba started. I miss my other object of desire and will be glad when his little glove wearing self is back, speedy and thorough recovery for Costa.
April 13, 201511 yr That's just projection, understandable considering they have to watch Bobby Zamora every week. Also bear in mind that this is a club which saw fit to make Joey Barton its captain so I'm sure you'll understand if I take anything coming from them with a pinch of salt. Drogba did just fine yesterday, his first touch was inconsistent but then it always has been. I won't deny that his pace and his stamina are a distant memory, but his strength, character (sorry) and aerial ability are all still there, particularly important consider the extent to which QPR have relied on set pieces for goals this season. He was still battling to win the ball, still intelligent enough to create chances and most hilariously of all, still the undisputed lord and master of timewasting. While I might be looking to move him on, or at least upstairs, over the summer, I am more than happy to have him in the squad, and delighted to have someone of his personality and experience in the dressing room during a tough run-in, particularly with a relatively young squad and Diego Costa missing. I noticed he seemed to be egging on Cuadrado a lot yesterday, which is great considering he looks like he's lacking in confidence. Whilst his mental attributes are well-documented, the fact is that when he plays we have no-one to stretch the play which means there's less space for everyone else especially Hazard. He alters the way we play and has done every time he's taken the field. We need a third striker who can get behind defences and quite frankly, we need a better player as third striker next season.
April 13, 201511 yr Thank you for everything Drogba. He has the heart, he has always had the heart. He plays as though he is ready to die on the pitch for Chelsea and it showed yesterday. But his body can not keep up with his heart. He will sit on that bench and never complain and for that i love him.
April 13, 201511 yr We had Torres, Eto'o and Ba last season. Remy is better than any of them, never mind Costa. Drogba breaths Chelsea and he's scored 6 goals already. I know people have hard time seeing him not being the beast he was but just get over it. His experience is what we need. Remy doesn't give us that, Costa doesn't give us that. When other players ask how is qpr and who is this and that he can tell you and most of all show how to play against them. He's also someone to look up to. I'm more than fine seeing him play another year, if not okay fine.
April 14, 201511 yr I hope he's involved with the club next season in some ways, hopefully not as a player. We need someone new and younger to take up that third striker spot, as much as it was nice to have Drogba back this season. He has nothing else to prove with us, should be inducted in the HOF and pass on the bat. It's almost unfair for us to be critical with his performance last week, he has done it all for us, no point doing it again at 37. His best asset at moment is to defend set pieces and hold the ball up, as important as that is, I feel even a third choice striker should offer something more than that ( with all due respect to Drogba the legend)
April 14, 201511 yr I think we should consider to give him another year. Perfect as a 3rd striker. Doesn't moan one bit and is a team player if there ever was one. No, sorry but no. He has had his day and to keep him for another season would be purely for sentimental reasons and worse bars the way for a youngster coming through.
April 14, 201511 yr No, sorry but no. He has had his day and to keep him for another season would be purely for sentimental reasons and worse bars the way for a youngster coming through. Think it was purely sentimental that we took him for this season. No other top club would have found a place for him. Thought he did ok against QPR but never looked a goal threat. Don't want Chelsea fans to start resenting Drogba and that could happen if he continues to get games so I think it best we call it a day. Another season would be utter madness.
April 14, 201511 yr Name that youngster? Will Jose play a 19 year old? Take your pick. Bamford, Brown, Solanke.
April 14, 201511 yr Take your pick. Bamford, Brown, Solanke. Will Jose play any of them? Will he trust them?
April 14, 201511 yr Will Jose play any of them? Will he trust them? Don't see why not as a third striker. Seems he may start giving Loftus-Cheek games next season so if we had a fully fit Costa and Remy (or another) but had one of the youngsters as 3rd striker and give them minutes as often as we could. If they do well when they get a chance, the more they impress, the more they play, that has to be the way forward.

April 14, 201511 yr We have Cuadrado an honoured international at his peak age playing 2 mins a game if that...just saying If that's Cuadrado at his Peak?!!! IMO, that signing was a bad one. But now need to cover myself and remember that all posts concerning Cuadrado have to mention the fact that it is "EARLY DAYS".
April 14, 201511 yr We have Cuadrado an honoured international at his peak age playing 2 mins a game if that...just saying Has Cuadrado shown anything in a Chelsea shirt to suggest he should be playing more than he has? If Bamford for example performed to a similar level as he is at Boro then there is no reason why he couldn't be third choice for us playing in the League Cup, the early rounds of the FA Cup and the occasional 10/15 minutes toward the end of matches we are winning to build his experience. We've just won yet another youth trophy, we've clearly got a good, talented academy and at some point we need to look to get a return on our investment. Drogba's performance at QPR was sub par, as an impact sub he does a job but the legs aren't there to be starting anymore. Person all I think it's a waste of a squad place to have a player who is only of use as a sub. When the likes of Salah, Schurrle or Oscar have performed to Drogba's level they've been hooked at half time. Supposedly Jose toyed with replacing Drogba with Zouma against QPR, that would have been embarrassing. I refuse to believe Bamford, Brown or Solanke would be any worse an option. The only way they're going to get top level experience is if we give it to them.
April 14, 201511 yr Always give him big backing and support but he didn't look up to it at all last game. He seems to be only good as an impact sub to be honest.
April 14, 201511 yr It will be interesting to see what we do about our striker situation next season. Costa has been a massive success, but the hamstring issue is a concern. Not as much as a concern if you have a top quality second option and it does appear that Jose has reservations about Remy. He hasn't really let us down when called upon but is he a 25+ goal a season striker and he too has had injury issues so to go into next season with them as 1 & 2 could be a gamble. Then you are more relaint on striker No.3 and Drogba clearly cannot be that man any more and I can't imagine anyone thinking he would be a better option than Bamford, Brown or Solanke (maybe a Poll ise needed?!!!)
April 14, 201511 yr Today's Times, Drogba not retiring, another season, Jose says, 'he's earned the right to choose when'. Talks soon, if article is accurate.

I think there is a good chance Remy will leave in the summer. I'm not sure he was a Mourinho signing and I think a general lack of playing time backs that up. He's a decent striker but considering how little he has played this season he has been one of our most injured players... What use is a back up striker if he can't be relied upon to be fit when needed? I think we could be investing in a new striker personally as back up... Whether Drogba gets another year or not I don't know. Jose is obviously a huge admirer of him as a player and as a man but even he must see that he is a shadow of the player he once was?
April 14, 201511 yr I am sorry but there is no way should Drogba be given another season, all he will be doing is blocking a space for Bamford, also Solanke & Brown will be looking for a chance to shine. It is hard for him to give it all up, he is a legend here, but time to help the team in another way, as a coach to our youngsters
April 14, 201511 yr Legend, but time has passed him by. Should retire and become a Chelsea coach (whatever else he thinks).
April 14, 201511 yr His legend status is beyond question, but aside from defending set-pieces he is completely finished as a Premier League striker. He's lost his pace, his famous strength and seemingly his technical ability as well. Costa of course should remain number 1 and I really like Remy as number 2, I'd go for Bamford as third choice and look to send Brown and Solanke on PL loans.
April 14, 201511 yr No matter how good Bamford has been I really can't see him staying here to be 3rd choice he will most likely be shipped off on loan again.
April 14, 201511 yr I cant see Mourinho playing someone like Bamford over Drogba. The real question is who we bring in if we decide to replace Remy. In fairly confident Drogba will be her next year and its either going to be Remy or another signing as second choice. Bamford can either stay here burried on the depth chart or go out on another loan
