February 2, 201511 yr I've been disappointed every time he's played over Remy since the home Schalke game.
February 2, 201511 yr I can't believe some of the comments about Drogba in this thread. You are talking like he has been bad when he most certainly hasn't. Before he first came people were asking if he would even score a goal, he already has a handful and has scored when needed. Jose brings him on in the last few minutes because it's hard for sides to deal with him, he might be slow but he has raw power running at the defences, he can't be stopped when teams are tired.
February 2, 201511 yr I don't think he is good enough to be starting for us anymore but he's a great impact sub. The Newcastle away match in particular comes to mind, allowed us to be more direct and he still has the strength and aerial ability to win most headers.
February 2, 201511 yr As said before, Drogba is an impact player now - someone to throw on for the last 10 minutes when we need to look for a win or when we need to defend for a draw. He was awful against Bradford. He's not the same player he was 10 years ago and people who think he can start and terrorise defenders like he used to are deluded. We need to use him but use him for what he can do now, which is not to throw him on from the outset in any games, in my view. Remy is a much better second option. I think he will make a superb coach one day.
February 2, 201511 yr Bamford needs a PL loan for a season in my opinion before he can become 3rd choice here
February 2, 201511 yr He's a decent impact sub, but the point is whether we should maybe start looking to develop someone for the future.
February 2, 201511 yr Drogba is a very useful player, many people on the thread don't see use in him. How vital was Dzeko for City last season when you think about it? He barely played and was used as an impact sub and won City a lot of points during the late end of the season. It's good to have variety, it's what wins games, we can come at teams in all shapes and forms. I can't wait to see Drogba come on against Spurs in the cup final, we know how hungry he will be to grab a goal, it's his favourite place.
February 2, 201511 yr How vital was Dzeko for City last season when you think about it? He barely played and was used as an impact sub and won City a lot of points during the late end of the season. He started 23 league games. I like the idea of Drogba coming off the bench when we're chasing games but we also have to develop talent and the reality is that Drogba has been poor overall. Bamford needs a PL loan for a season in my opinion before he can become 3rd choice here Why? Not being difficult but why not just give an English 21 year old striker a chance?

Not being difficult but why not just give an English 21 year old striker a chance? Do not agree on your Drogba assessment at all. He has put in some top performances when asked this season. I just think he could do with playing regularly for someone at this level before been 3rd choice for us. Think it would better his development than coming back here and been on the bench most of the season. Edited February 2, 201511 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
February 2, 201511 yr I suspect Bamford is nothing more than an investment player for us, unfortunately. We'll bite the hand off anyone who comes in with a £10m+ offer and use it to help the balance sheet.

Not being difficult but why not just give an English 21 year old striker a chance? That doesn't mean he didn't come on games, he came on a lot of games at the end of last season and secured them a lot of vital points. Points they desperately needed. As for the youth, if you think Bamford is going to be 3rd choice next season then I wish I shared your optimism for our youth. But I can't see that happening in the slightest bit, if I were you I wouldn't have a good amount of faith in us giving youth players a good chance.

We'll bite the hand off anyone who comes in with a £10m+ offer and use it to help the balance sheet. We had a fantastic player in Daniel Sturridge and we never gave the lad a chance and whenever he played he scored. He went out on loan to Bolton, scored more league goals in few months than Torres did all season and when he came back what happened? We still didn't play him in the striker role, we played him out wide. He was more of an inside forward yes but he wanted to the main man and we still wouldn't push Torres out of the side for him. Sturridge is one of the most consistent strikers you will get, even in his off days at Liverpool he will score.
February 2, 201511 yr Do not agree on your Drogba assessment at all. He has put in some top performances when asked this season. I know. Spurs at home and Schalke away. I just think he could do with playing regularly for someone at this level before been 3rd choice for us. Think it would better his development than coming back here and been on the bench most of the season. We're really quite sh*t at loaning players out though. Unless Boro get promoted and he stays there then he's more than likely f**ked, and let's remember that he's got a better scoring record than Kane had before this season. Dzeko was a key player for City, not close to what Drogba looks to be for us. The problem is that Drogba forces us to play in a completely different way than Costa and Remy. We don't really use a target man like we used to. As for Bamford, he needs a shot eventually. He's versatile as well and let's not remember that we had four youth team players on the bench on Sunday.

Fabregas, Mikel and Luis out with knocks, Costa suspended, Schurrle and Salah are on there way out.

I suppose we could just sell Bamford and sign Kane.
February 2, 201511 yr Plus Zouma preferred to Cahill and RLC brought on at the end. I suppose we could just sell Bamford and sign Kane. I think Mourinho wanted Zouma anyway. He's not exactly youth, then again neither was Sturridge, however when we signed him he was meant to be a freakish talent. He was starting games for Etienne when he was about 17 years old. He was even the captain I believe I could be wrong on that though. RLC was just brought on for the sake of it I believe, fresh legs and we had about a minute left if that, many managers just bring on subs to waste time. Cahill was more tactical as we were indeed just parking the bus for the last 6 minutes. Edited February 2, 201511 yr by Slawth
February 7, 201511 yr Drogba is a very useful player, many people on the thread don't see use in him. Do you still stand by that after another poor display today? What has happened when he has played recently is exactly what many of us feared and didn't want to see. A once great player not being able to form at anything like the level he once did. I just want to see Drogba coming on against tired, leggy defenders from now on - NOT starting games. Counting the minutes until Costa returns and just hope he doesn't get injured or suspended for the remainder of the season.
February 7, 201511 yr As i said in the Remy thread i think Jose is saving Remy for Everton. However i can't help but think that Jose's love for Drogba has blinded him on certain occasions. I hope Jose is able to see what the rest of us are seeing. His last performances have been really poor and we should not be relying on him. If Jose doesn't have faith in Remy, he should've got another striker during the transfer window. Love Drogba for what he's done but he cannot be starting any more games for Chelsea.
February 7, 201511 yr One of the worst games from him in the blue shirt. I'm not too worried though. He needs a bigger stage at this point of his career than dire Villa away game. We can all remember games where he absolutely bombed. Come spring and Didi is alive once more.
February 7, 201511 yr He still has a part to play for us this season but I would suggest as an impact sub rather than a starter. Can see him scoring the winner at Wembley against the spuds.
February 7, 201511 yr Can still offer something coming from the bench but it's starting look like he doesn't have the legs to be starting. Br very surprised if his contract was renewed in the summer.
February 7, 201511 yr Hopefully he retires and joins our coaching staff at the end of the season. He's a club legend, played a massive part in every single trophy we have won in the Abramovich era.
February 7, 201511 yr I'm sure he will score an important goal this season come spring. You just wait.
February 7, 201511 yr Was absolutely dreadful today. Never seen him so bad. But I love the guy, he's 36 and that's too old to be starting for Chelsea. Hope he retires and becomes a coach.
