Didier Drogba Returns!

Featured Replies

Tell me something, how did you feel about Drogba when he played against us for Galatasary?

In boxing terms, he looked shot! still useful for a flick on with the long ball. I thought he was brought back more for his presence around the team. Would have actually quite liked to keep eto

Yeah in his last season for Gala he looked on the way out that's why I was so surprised he was brought in.

Like barak I though it was for squad morale and to pass on some things to our younger players. I'm now thinking Jose wan't him to have a more important role, hopefully this does not get in Remy's way because he is a FAR better option than Drogba and should be second choice.

I fully agree, but I was actually wondering about CFCBlue12's attitude based on his comments in the Goodbye Super Frankie Lampard thread.

In boxing terms, he (CFCBlue12) is on the ropes, punching above his weight, and would do well to throw in the towel.

Only started one game for the Ivory Coast in the World Cup and was substituted in that.

I don't know why Drogs is being used by Jose and Remy is twirling his thumbs on the bench. What exactly is Jose trying to get out of Drogs?

On Wednesday night, I hope Remy, Zouma and the other players that were not used so far are on the pitch.

I think Jose wanted to show his support for Drogba after Drogba was criticized for his bad performance.  A poor decision, but can't think of another reason.

Ward,

If your better player Remy is on the bench, then why not take on him? The team first, players second, I have read somewhere. So far as I can say, Drogs has very little in him. Keep him on as a motivator to pep up the boys, but to play him when the game is in its crucial phase is not in my repertoire.

I don't care as long as our players play for City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal.

I wouldn't even mind Ashley Cole playing against us in Roma colours in UCL rounds... Atleast he didn't joined any one of these clubs despite being linked with Liverpool

I think it was pretty clear why Mou wanted Drogba to come on. And it wasnt to get another goal, hes still superb defensively. He can win headers on opposing corners, close down his space in defense and hold up the ball. I would be fine with that at 1-0 up, but I dont belive thats the right tactic when imo we should be chasing a goal against 10 men City.

This is where I always have a problem with Jose's thinking, instead of trying to win the game ( as he said), he put on a defensive striker to defend corners when we have an extra man on the field. Having a fast Remy running at a depleted tired defence would have been a completely different challenge to City.

I think because of Costa still not being fully fit Remy is being well looked after. If Costa was out for a long time we will need Remy.

I think in the City game everyone could see how their players were out to ruff up our players and Jose probably didnt want to take the risk of Remy getting injured. Also Drogba is a very good defender and that was the plan when he was brought on. Defended set plays and play the long ball for Drogba to hold up at the other end.

Should only be a last 10 minute option if we need a goal and Remy and Costa are either already on the pitch or are injured.

Remy and Costa need to be starting before him, he's just not got it anymore sadly.

Jose didn't want Remy to be hurt? Lol. That's amusing, if I may say so. To play against 10 men, leading 1 zip, I would have Remy out there immediately to run at those thugs big time. That's the way I see it anyway. Now Jose talks about the team wasn't mentally tough to carry on for the win. Lol.

Drogba is not the Drogba I welcome into the team week after week winning us games & trophies, I want to remember him as the finest lone striker

I've ever clapped eyes on, but unfortunately Jose is spoiling my memories.

...... and came on against Japan and instantly changed the game.

Drogba should be third choice as a starter, simply because of his age, but as a sub coming on? It really depends on the circumstances in the match at that time. I certainly wouldn't criticize for Jose bringing him on against Citeh, especially with the height and physical power they have in their back four and midfield.
