Didier Drogba Returns!

Featured Replies

They had bednter who Wenger insisted would be a great player for them, they have a fabled youth system yet needed a 35 year old on loan. Like last season with kallstrom, where was the youth to step in then?

How about fergie signing Larrson, another genius move. Yet an ageing dtogba is a mistake.

Wenger also claimed Aliadiere and Francis Jeffers were future stars

Welcome home Didier! Smart move from Jose thinking about it, It looked as though we lost a lot of character in our team with the loss of Luiz, Frankie and Ash but as we know Drogs has it in abundance and can only help the lads in the dressing room.

To be honest I've come to like this signing more and more now that I've gotten past my petty pride. We know exactly who to play if we ever make Wembley and Mourinho brought him back for a reason, we've got a great character that has returned and I'm almost certain he will only have a positive effect.

Also we aren't going to get a sulking Drogba either, if he is here to be a coach as well he will know of his responsibilities.

Caveat to my earlier post, I've just watched all his goals on youtube from when was a Galatasray player, and a lot of them a defensive howlers. He probably won't be so lucky in the PL

Warning sh*t music alert

Defensive mistakes or not, he was there to put them in the net; that is what a striker does.

Difference is now, he will be playing for a team and manager that he loves, and he'll have to train like a madman under mourinho. I doubt he's trained as hard as he will under mourinho since, well, last time he trained under José.

I think he'll put in 110% effort for us. I don't expect him to score a ton of goals, but I expect him to still present a threat and big presence against teams.

If people want to continue to underestimate him at 36, then they can do so at their peril, but for a 36 year old to score 23 goals (most likely comingnoff the bench too) in any league is impressive. I really think he'll prove a lot of doubters wrong next season.

I was against him coming back as a player but if Jose thinks he can still do a job for us then I'm more than happy. At least I now know what name I'll be putting on the back of this seasons shirt!

Not too important or relevant but I wonder what he's being paid and if there is some sort of arrangement in place after a year. I'm assuming he will become a coach after that but surely coaches aren't on the same wages at the players...? There are people employed to worry about such things but I want to know what his contract stipulates. Now.

Better signing than Luis! Lol

Seriously though love the fact he is back, he belongs here... Would take him in my side at age 42!!!!

Drogba is a legend and he should have stayed that way!! I am 48 years old and know that my best is far behind me yet I still turn out for our reserves on a saturday. I am far more comfortable playing vets football on a sunday morning and I feel that Didier should maybe play for someone in a lesser league. I love him and always will however he is no longer Premiership quality.

You are just taking it wrong. You feel the memories of him get tarnished. It is up to you. Why was he brought here really? For experience, for coaching, for spine, for the dressing room. Playing minutes here and there is a plus. For me he is a mentor/coach who plays some and not the other way around.

Somehow some of you seem to not see that Drogba was signed to play as a game changer only. He may start a game or two, but he was not signed to play in many games.

The success of the Drogba signing is solely down to who the number two striker is in front of him.

Drogba is getting his original #15 by the looks of things:

Another question is why does our dressing room have an 'African corner'?

When I did the tour and visited the dressing room, I was told that they tend to put the players from the same nationalities together. At that time you had the English, Portuguese and the African players together.

Do they know Africa is not a country :-) ?

Anyway, we're all talking about Drogba in a coaching role, getting Lukaku to buckle down, etc., but do we even know Drogba is interested in such a role? Do we know this has been a topic of conversation between the club and Drogba? I can't help feeling we're assuming a bit. Perhapd Drogba sees a final year at Chelsea, instead of places that hardly matter on the international football map, a good club to end his playing career. He can't do wrong in the eyes of the supporters, that must be nice for a player.

Let's hope that Mikel shirt isn't still there come the start of the season.
